  1. Just one other thing to note, there is also the Fire Station at the Pelican end of Talfourd. So some siren noise at odd times of night!
  2. I am very disappointed to learn that Southwark continues to permit new dropped kerbs as a matter of course. They add to local parking problems, screw up drainage (unless planning controls on how the garden conversion can take place are imposed) and add to neigbourhood tensions as drivers park across them. Ah well. Good to know.
  3. I live in that neck of the woods. Lovely area. I walk up Talfourd a lot. The odd character but it's a pretty stable neighbourhood with lots of people who've lived there for many years, local kids play out a lot in the road early eves. (And on the parking front, plenty of residents who think it's just fine and very resistant to parking controls.....but that's a whole other debate)
  4. Absolutely fjgb. I know some councils have adopted a 'no new dropped curb' policy. I just wasn't sure if Southwark had or not.
  5. Hi, Does anyone know if Southwark has a clear policy on creating new vehicle crossovers ie permitting new dropped kerbs on roads to allow gardens to be turned into drives? A house at end of my street is applying and, if allowed, this would result in loss of at least one parking place on an already busy street. I know some councils have adopted a 'no new dropped curbs' policy. Has Southwark?
  6. Pulled the odd muscle making the rapid changes between bbc 1 and bbc 2....
  7. Wiltshire. A3, tiny bit of M3 and head west.... Loads of pretty places to choose from.
  8. Always fancied a cardboard coffin that my friends and family have a big party around whilst covering it with glitter and graffiti. Then sent to the fire and ashes sprinkled quietly in the Arizona desert by my other half. Maybe a bit of Tom Waits playing.
  9. I think it sounds like you have been quite reasonable. If it was simply loud enough for you to hear whilst you were enjoying your own garden - as opposed to being so loud the whole street couldn't fail to hear it - well fair enough. It always surprises me how quick people are to complain but don't nexessarily think about their own actions might negatively impact. In my street, the terraced gardens all are pretty small and close and we just grin and bear it when someone cracks open the Bbq the minute the washing was put out, or drilling and sawing goes on just as you settle down witha book. It's part of city living.....
  10. Packets of vegetable seeds when I was about 7 from the shop across the road which I then plants behind our garage. Shopkeeper caught me eventually and told my mum - got such a hiding.
  11. Yep. What Loz said. Biggest etiquette fail was on your guest'spart for querying the host's behaviour.
  12. M&S do a fab pair of sleek long pants just as you describe. They're in the body shaping underwear range. http://www.marksandspencer.com/light-control-sheer-shaping-thigh-slimmer/p/p22445060?image=SD_02_T33_1104_AX_X_EC_90&color=ALMOND&prevPage=plp&pdpredirect They're v comfy
  13. Simplest, and pending odd traffic, 171 bus to Holborn then 5 min walk. I find the buses quicker than any train route as it's easier to just jump off and walk if traffic gets ropey.

Cambridge House won. Judicial review against Southwark on. Housing case earlier this year - taking funding from Southwark doesn't stop them acting.

Cambridge House Law Centre - great success in challenging these sorts of cases. http://ch1889.org/our-work/law-centre/
  16. Just had a quote for four sashes to be replaced with hard wood double glazed sashes ?5k plus vat.
  17. I usually get a terrible ear worm mid-afternoon. Recently it's been Bonnie Tyler, total eclipse of the heart. Or that bloody tune from the money supermarket ad. Will. Not. Go. Away.
  18. If it needs permission, it should get permission. Nit about harm or otherwise.
  19. Well, we went. Had a great day. Loads of interesting cars, and the racing was great.
  20. Thinking of going tomorrow. Has anyone been in previous years? Worth ?15?
  21. Guessing you mean 'signed' Henry?
  22. We have one living in our garden. Don't know where he hangs out most of the time as we have a patio garden with just a few large bushes. But he seems to be thriving and has been here for three or four years. So I'd say just let him back out.
  23. Bertie! That takes me back red devil. Funnily enough, I'm in Manchester at this very moment in my CTID old home.
  24. My next door neighbours back garden. Bloody huge and hangs over our garden dropping leaves and catkins continuously...... Not that I'm bitter!
