teenagers mugged - how to make them feel safe again?
JohnL replied to DiD's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
It takes a while to recover from that sort of experience whatever your age and the law process sometimes makes it feel worse. Maybe Self defense type classes won't allow you to take on anybody but maybe help confidence and how to behave in a way that deters muggers. Don't forget to log the phones/bikes as stolen on something like on www.immobilise.com (and any replacements). -

We had Alchopops back in the day - they were horrible. Gin is the flavour of the moment, although I've begun to notice a switch to spiced rum.

That was dry sarcasm I reckon as he can see the "economies of scale" coming.

The 6%+ stuff was - they had some 4% stuff that was cheaper and didn't give me a headache.

direct trains north of Blackfriars from Denmark Hill
JohnL replied to [email protected]'s topic in The Lounge
Depends how mobile you are I suppose (I walk from Blackfriars to Chancery Lane now instead of City Thameslink most mornings). We have lost a lot of through trains. If you're lucky there's a train about to pull out of the neighboring platform - if you're unlucky it's just gone :) -
Man shouting at woman in the early hours of the morning

I think I might have heard these two in the past also at the top of Rye Lane - If so it's been happening a long time - I'll add if I hear again. -
Ho - this has caught the attention of Southwark News. Maybe they can get a journalist to investigate further. https://www.southwarknews.co.uk/news/vicious-cycle-reports-of-dockless-ofo-bike-bandits-in-peckham-and-east-dulwich/

That's really nasty - a machete means to be this crime should be given some priority.

Once, not to long ago, it was us Welsh who were taking over East Dulwich. But now you're lucky to buy a Welsh Cake or to get the TV turned over when Wales play. -
Maybe what the CPS prosecute under (theft or robbery) depends on what they think they can get a conviction on. A situation where an accomplice causes you to crash after which someone steals your bike may be difficult to pin the robbery charge especially if they use underage youngsters to cause the 'accident'. https://www.cps.gov.uk/legal-guidance/theft-act-offences

The worst that can happen is you can't vote - so why someone would be grumpy as if you've missed a mandatory probation check I wouldn't know (unless they had a very bad day :) )

Suppose it depends if they'd stand up for each other (as there's no police presence apparently). The robbers count that they won't - or don't want to get involved for various reasons. But if you change route, so could the robbers. We can't let Katie Hopkins's idea of no go areas come true.

singalto Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I attended a self defence class nearly 30 years > ago and we were advised to scream ?fire? all those > years ago.. Except we're all asked to stay in our flats in the event of fire. I just make a lot of noise. I remember "I'll rip your heads off" shouted so loud it would have woken up the devil (they were teenagers armed with sticks though - so probably easily intimidated).

The bike itself would need to be constructed from materials that are trackable. Nanobots.

I stopped when a guy flagged me down about 10 years ago - It was 3:00 AM and he actually had agreed to meet his girlfriend 1/2 mile down the road and was late :) - I was new to London then and treated it like a village - I would be doubtful of stopping now (but maybe I would - I go on my own intuition)

Plague of Litter (what can we do about it?)

LOL this morning on Sky - "Don't pick up anything strange from the floor" -
And if you're walking to the old FHT (blast from the past - now the WGT ) - it's a stop over :)

Callie Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Does that mean we can't pay in money at LL branch? That's how I read it too (or take it out) - used to be queues of local traders putting cash in on Rye Lane banks (on certain days).

Walking to the Dentist yesterday and it does seem closer to the "Clockhouse" side than in previous years. No noise or work going on at that time (3:00 PM) though.

Children going down Rye lane - loads of yellow bikes yesterday
