So we all now need two phones - cheap one for talking on in public and our iPhone for functionality at home. My elderly mother has an iPhone but no contract - it never leaves the house :)

  5. Reports of some sinister posters on the Pelican estate mind you. http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/standard/article-23913786-murder-estate-posters-warn-stop-snitching.do That implies some gang activity to me. Much to early to link this. louisiana Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > As yet we know nothing of the circumstances let > alone whether this was anything to do with 'local > gang culture'. > > Such events all too frequently get blamed on gang > rivalries when they are nothing of the sort. > > What I am aware of is that a lot more kids seem to > carry weapons than ever happened in my youth. 6. Noticiably not involved at the moment - I suppose the Trident/Black thing is to allow integration with a culture as otherwise I'd have thought a gang/gun incident team would be better. Bad vibes out at the moment - someone lying unconcious in the road outside the Bishop on Saturday - doormen were dragging him out of the path of cars. Even though not announced yet, it's probably an Operation Trident crime Lots of renewed gang activity around here (Peckham side)
  9. homicide and serious crime investigating (no mention of trident).
  10. Pipes are definitely going down Looks like water to me.
  11. Just my impression from a few years back. Been more careful since :) I think this is being treated as organised crime to an extent. louisiana Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > JohnL Wrote: > -------------------------------------------------- > ----- > > The bankls pretend not to be interested but I > > think a separate police team investigates. > > > > A 'police team'? 12. The bankls pretend not to be interested but I think a separate police team investigates. WHen my account was accessed (few years ago now) they told me not to bother with the police as a team was already working on the case - money never oficially went out as I never saw the rogue statements only a balance.
  13. 343->Overland->Jubilee route for me But since Christmas the jubilee line and overland are packed between 8 and 9. and on Mondays a train usually breaks down in stratford :)
  14. Girl at Starbucks seemed a bit confused over whether VAT went on or not - think they might have changed their mind. They have 2.50 for a Latte on the board, I was charged 2.45
  15. Well logically if the operation was outsourced (don't know if it is) The job of the outsourced manager would be to make sure that the next contract is signed/extended (and thus get as many motorists caught as possible) without getting caught making it look like he or his staff is doing so on purpose :) The job of the non outsourced manager would be to do the opposite to save costs. Society is funny sometimes. 16. So if the traffic warden scheme works as designed then traffic wardens won't be able to be paid Narnia Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > This reply may interest some of you
  17. But the issue is that in a nice world the attendants would have waved away the car. We live in a world where they want you to park there so that they get the 'quota' MitchK Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Serves you right, you were illegally parked. > > Happy New Year.
  18. It's just a feeling relating to being in shops/pubs (no specific ones or areas) the day after a budget tax increase of say 1p and seeing 10p increases. KPMG thinks we're in for increases due to various other reasons (fuel price, previous discounting). http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2010/dec/14/retail-inflation-vat-price-rises I've a gut feeling people will continue to spend for a while too - meaning other retailers will follow those imposing higher prices.
  19. In my experience lots of stuff will go up by 10% and it will be blamed on VAT Very bad for inflation and increases the likelyhood of an interest rate rise.
  20. My Karate Sensei is 5th Dan, and he has taken people on (He's ex Isaeli army) but he still says your first thought should be to create a distraction (look across the road and shout 'Officer' for instance), then run. Once you take them you have to assume your life is in danger as they will have weapons. Would be funny to put a hold on and say 'no, you give me your wallet' as we do in training - but unfortunately, not practical Peckhamgatecrasher Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Jeremy is so right, Mr Ben. 21. This was 'volunteered for elimination only' I assume (So any other blood is from the muggers) Seems consent is required for this - but I bet theres some pressure to give it - and you can't retract your consent. louisiana Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > HAL, the adding of victims, witnesses, partners of > victims and a long etc. (children!) to the DNA > database is just so wrong on so many levels. > > You know you can appeal that, get yourself > removed....? 22. Just starting now - predicted to last all day. My android app changed to snow as the first flake hit :)

Often women react quicker than men - I once saw a small lady stop some muggers who were just about to slam a metal bin down on somebodys head. They ran.
  24. Dorothy Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Bizarre question. What's that all about then? Bizarre in these days of iphone/android apps :) Mind you - EDT is rather shadowy in a way (the sign can be missed)
  25. Weren't slaps across the face the old answer to that behaviour. I give nothing in the street now - all done by DD.
