  1. The previous thread on this bar (and yes there is always a previous thread) referred to it as The HoBo bar http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?20,197024,page=1
  2. If this follows the 1918 flu epidemic trend then now might just be the time to catch it. I'm not scared yet though. As the Times says "Virologists are likening it to the strain that caused the 1968-69 pandemic, which was also considered mild: it killed about one in 1,000 of those it infected. Its novelty, however, meant that it infected more than a billion people worldwide, causing a million deaths." "There is also no guarantee that this virus will continue to be comparatively benign. It is a fact of life that flu mutates fast, and there is every possibility that H1N1 will become more virulent, or resistant to antiviral drugs. The 1918-19 Spanish flu began as a mild virus in the northern hemisphere spring. It returned with a vengeance in the winter, bearing a mutation that enabled it to kill 50 million." http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/comment/columnists/guest_contributors/article6219675.ece
  3. Never heard of that before. Mind sometimes you just have to ignore the bouncer/alpha male thing at all pubs/nightclubs etc and just smile back :) My only difficulty in the Bishop is getting seen in the crowds trying to get a drink on weekends.
  4. Its the smaller deep unit on the Peckham Rye side of Cooperative House rather than the one on the corner that did have some Tesco equipment in.
  5. Loads of builders hats with 'tescos' on them on the floor in the unit now :). lenk Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > nunheadbelle Wrote: > -------------------------------------------------- > ----- > > > > i also heard Foxtons was closing and we > were > > > getting a Sainsbury's Local on LL. > > > > > > *grows old* > > > > Well, this seems pretty certain Co-Operative > > house, new Tesco > > I cycled past there last night. > > you know what I saw? > > Nothing. > > Unless my definition of 'moved in' is outdated
  6. You can't stay in after dark I won't live my life like that - I like a pint or 3
  7. I took about 2 minutes to answer my postie knock - he was halfway down the corridor (flasts) then and wasn't happy with me at all. reetpetite Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Re parcel....Didnt think of that ,even so you > would normaly be expecting one to be delivered so > would answer door .no?
  8. Thats seems to be the raison d'etre of the self defence courses I go to (i've only just started this year - so would never have a go) - but after years and years of repeated practice every single day - preparing for just this, then the defence is possible. The Sensei emphasisises getting away and running first mind, even at the cost of a phone and a few pounds - so if he does - so should I :). jimmy two times Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > The problem with doing self defence classes is > that they can give a false sense of self > confidence. 9. Lots of the pubs are toddler friendly now (in the day).
  10. Most people won't confront someone else in London so well done, be careful though - murders have happened for less round here. I'd love to confront some of the perpetual spitters.
  11. The quarterly figures were massive falls though So maybe a small bounce would be expected. Like this quote in the Telegraph 'The "green shoots" visible in the economy and stock market were at risk of being exaggerated into "tropical rainforests" said Bob Janjuah, a strategist at Royal Bank of Scotland.' http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/5095371/Green-shoots-in-housing-prices-stock-market-and-banks-economists-hope.html

  13. Some large organisations (think Housing Associations) only seem to respond to organised criticisms on forums such as this. I still often say nothing about bad service .. but go elsewhere - it's the way I was brought up/British nature. More and more you get asked if everything is fine now - but the tendancy is still to say 'Yes, OK :)' even when it isn't.
  14. The great thing about London is that if you're a bit bored of ED, try Peckham, Camberwell, Clapham or Richmond (ooh thats posh - drove up from the M3 yesterday).
  15. I've been practicing on COD4 on the PS3. Anyone got a red dot for the M16 ;)
  16. Its nice to be recognised ;)
  17. But Huguenot, why is everyone in parts of London in such a rush, Why is their time more important than people they share this city with. It happens all the time. In Nationwidwe on Rye Lane, I waited behind a guy who set up his whole church finances before being served. I wanted to go to work too, but I waited patiently.
  18. This sounds just like the City Banker attitude of 'I'm so important that I can push in' that I see every day By the way the HSBC said they didn't need my 80 year old mothers custom as they were still making a profit (or one of the tellers did) - what goes around comes around HSBC.
  19. I haven't seen him outside Coop House recently No doubt will soon. He got much worse during the summer last year.
  20. I've got an old fiver (George Stephenson) Maybe I'll pay in somerfield with it just for a laugh :)
  21. I've seen it all before Remember telling my mate he was a complete *** for buying in 1992 odd When things are good people believe they will never get bad When things are bad people believe they will never get good till they're to old to be able to do anything about it :) remember what they called the John Major recession ... triple dip.
  22. According to ScrumV (BBC Wales :)) ) Wales are clear favourites I don't even know if I can watch it.
  23. Its a horrible indictment on London But as soon as 'Operation Trident' is mentioned - then a swathe of the population can sleep easy. Maybe its time the press stopped mentioning this - as it's becoming a codeword.
  24. London is 4 or 5 communities living side by side - but acting like the others aren't even there. In that respect 'Ghost Town' is an apt description - although I doubt for that reason. Pagey Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > The problem with areas like East Dulwich, Dulwich > and Herne Hill is that they're too close to the > front line for comfort, so when the revolution > happens we won't be able to get out quickly enough
  25. It depends what the customer herself thought. Without finding that out .. we can't really tell. I've seen beggars chucked out of many a pub/restaurant - there may also be a history.
