  1. I do remember as a 16 year feeling that missing a year or resitting it seemed it would be the biggest disaster in the world. At 25 it seemed like not much really - just a year - the most important thing is your goal being something you really want and that it'll make you happy and also it's obtainable/realistic. Many people do the same job for years on end. If we do make them redo it lets give them counsel as to what they want and how they should go about getting it so they won't regret what they choose to do.

  3. There was a petition to require MPs to tell the truth - I just saw the Government response which includes .. I'm not sure all MPs (all sides, past and present) adhere to these guidelines. But then maybe they do :). "Once elected to Parliament, all MPs must abide by the seven principles of public life which form the basis of ethical standards expected of holders of public office. These are set out by the Committee on Standards in Public Life and are: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership. It is a requirement that any holder of public office must be truthful and must act and take decisions impartially, fairly and on merit, using the best evidence and without discrimination or bias. Upon election, MPs are also subject to the House of Commons Code of Conduct and the Guide to the Rules relating to the Conduct of Members. Included in the code is a general duty on MPs to ?act in the interests of the nation as a whole; and a special duty to their constituents?, alongside a requirement that MPs ?act on all occasions in accordance with the public trust placed in them. They should always behave with probity and integrity, including in their use of public resources.? The House of Commons Committee on Standards is currently conducting an inquiry into the operation of the Code of Conduct for Members of Parliament, in liaison with the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards who will carry out an independent review of the Code. The Committee will publish a report on the code and a public consultation will follow."

If you tell me what to do I'll do the opposite thanks. This thread talked about tights earlier so why pick on my comment unless you have an agenda ?
  5. Also some of us had been saying the second wave was coming even as the government embarked upon "Eat out to Help out" assuming it was all over.

Boris is a denier at heart. He would have let the virus run rip if he was allowed (or maybe it was the influence of his evil mate who is probably still skulking around). This was the impression the CNN team gave to viewers when he said "I did everything I could" - the camera cut and they all looked at each other.

This is done already I'm sure to an extent - they use a quality of life algorithm to decide who will get the money and who won't. The below seems to have gone too far but it shows what happens. https://www.forbes.com/sites/gusalexiou/2020/06/23/unlawful-do-not-resuscitate-orders-for-disabled-covid-patients-outrageous/?sh=6cb328876cf1
  8. CNN went live to the Boris news conference today and gave a summary of where the UK is in terms of deaths and cases. They seem to be taking an interest in UK politics recently - maybe they're gaining UK based viewers. The look on their faces as Boris said his stuff about having tried his best and done everything he could..
  9. Fine Fare was around in the 70s too. Co-Op Funeral guys still around as they're opposite me, only shop to regularly paint over graffiti on their wall.
  10. Nationalise ... but that's a dirty word.
  11. They are the Umbrella Corporation apparently.
  12. Downdetector didn't pick that up Is it just VISA/Mastercard or certain banks (not going but it would help if anybody knows I guess)
  13. Continental cities seem to be able to make summer spaces outside without loss of trade - is it just the way the cities are designed or is it the people.

It?s the British version, the one you can catch if the sick bloke so much as looks at you. "
  16. No relation to the above but having Hancock back again is almost a relief after Patel. He likes a long chat.
  17. I saw this aimed at security guys https://www.inbrief.co.uk/employees/being-a-security-guard/ Seems to come down to "reasonable suspicion". Obviously all security staff are trained and know this.
  18. The Government must recognise both Ireland and Scotland will leave the UK - it's only a matter of time and on which UK Prime Ministers watch it happens. They must be preparing so I'll go for the Wangland before Wales leaves.

  20. You'd expect to be able to see a list of what suspicious behavior is in the security guys notepad to justify any allegation, and maybe be given the opportunity address it. Maybe one way of fighting back is to spend a couple of hours going over every purchase in detail and verifying until everyone is bored. :) There should really be no embarrassment factor about being stopped - you're not guilty just because of security checks.
  21. Just heard on CNN that the Johnson & Johnson vaccine will only require one dose

The Standard in the below article seems to imply they are not pros but someone behind them obviously is and is giving instructions. There seem to be a bit of foreigner fear here but normally that's the Mail and Express so maybe this one is true. https://www.standard.co.uk/news/crime/wimbledon-burglary-tourism-met-police-a4337041.html
  24. To be honest the alarms go off regularly when I walk out of some stores - I usually get waved through. Once I did have to use a junior hacksaw to remove the tag that a certain store didn't from a bottle :)

A clever thief would just send someone ahead with valid receipt to occupy the security guards time and then walk out with all the stuff straight past the fuss False positives isn't it and they aren't good. I'd point that out but other than that couldn't really be bothered.
