Tighter restrictions/ second national lockdown aka circuit breaker?
JohnL replied to malumbu's topic in The Lounge
"The researchers found that full lockdowns were 'not associated' with decreased mortality from Covid-19" Obviously but I'm not sure that decreasing mortality (% of those who contract the COVID-19 virus that die) is the aim of a lockdown. A lockdown stops a huge number of people getting very ill at the same time and also buys time. -
Some landlords are more formal some are not but obviously it's past the leave day and the contract will say whats what. I had Landlords who would let me get away with murder (not literally) when I rented but the same ones would also turn up out the blue to show someone around or ask for some favour (technically breaching your peace and quiet so what goes around comes around in terms of formality). The very first landlord I had I never saw - just an agent and then only 3 times in 2 years - and it was a lovely flat in Docklands but they'd have thrown the book at me if I broke the rules. Many would prefer this arrangement.

Peckham Rye flood alleviation proposals

The area where the Lido used to be could do with landscaping if that's what you mean. The revival of the Lido looks a bit pie in the sky. Was that spring The Peck ? -

These days every sign is bilingual with Welsh first. Mind You it works both ways with the loss of our EU status - I brought 48 cans of Brewdog last week and 16 of them were made in the USA and had 12 fluid Oz instead of 330 ml

Can't see Dido Harding lasting much longer - she really has been not brilliant, but then has Boris ever sacked anybody he appointed.

We don't need a vaccine to improve the death rate and general treatment though - that will improve due to drugs that help treat Covid and other methods of care - and as with HIV it'll be a cocktail of drugs. This second wave will show us a lot in terms of deaths. The question of long term effects still remains - that's still seen as almost a myth when it really isn't. Then there's re-infection - that needs to be answered. Surely someone is also studying social distancing and the best way to proceed whilst effecting people and society as little as possible whilst having maximum effect on transmission. Even the tiers aren't Boris or Dom ideas - they come from other countries - Ireland has had tiers for a while. Maybe there won't be a vaccine and we will have to live with it - but the effects will get less rather than more I'd hope.

This thread sort of sums it up. Nobody knows.

SO Liverpool locked down .... except Wetherspoons Doesn't take much guessing what will happen. Edit: I'm still trying to work out if you can order 10 pints with your packet of pork scratchings or only one

The more you go out the more you'll forget the above. If you go out once a day or less it's pretty easy - if you're rushing around back and for you'll forget unless you're careful.

I'd just assume it was somebody who's business wasn't important enough to wait - unless it happened multiple times - then it does begin to sound like a variation on the babysitting urban myth :). this bits my favorite and the one to watch for "The babysitter does check on the children each time, with her noticing a creepy clown statue that she assumes was just a part of the decor, but ends up being the man in question. She learns this when she mentions it to the mother via phone call, who alerts her to the fact that they don?t have a clown statue."

Every year of fuel duty freeze means something else has to give because of the way budgets are calculated. "The issue is that the Office for Budget Responsibility, which provides independent forecasts for the government, assumes that fuel duty will rise by inflation every year ? despite all evidence to the contrary." https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2020/sep/04/treasury-raise-fuel-duty-chancellors-freeze

Nobody hit a six big enough to get to me :) The pubs still sticking to masks unless you're seated at a table as far as I know - people seem to feel safe outside I think, but we have no idea of the infectiousness of this in the cold rainy weather. What's known as long covid is a bit of an unknown - it might be rare, but it's not impossible that it'll take away a bit of a persons lung/vascular capacity every time it hits.

He doesn't want to get rid of the 10PM curfew and revert to midnight/1:00am opening - he wants to ban all drinking in pubs I think

The problem is the people who turn bluetooth off or don't install the app will be the people who are out most and don't do any social distancing I bet.

We're not allowed to turn right on peckham rye westside going south - so it means an alternative route (and as stated above I'd use consort road.

If they use Excel when ?2 Billion has been spent you really need to wonder whats going on. I have seen reassurance that the people that did that weren't involved in the app.
