Have we established where on Melford Road this is? I'm curious (as I live nearby) because if it's the side track I think it is (near Wood Vale) then as far as I can see, whilst part of the open space is unregistered land, other parts are actually owned by the houses on Underhill Road (from the title plans), including the parts near the access way from Melford Road. So if someone is planning to store building machinery on the unregistered bit, or a bit they own, they're going to need permission from their neighbours on Underhill to do so, or they can't actually move that machinery in and out of the lane (if it's that bit of land, of course). From a neighbour perspective, I'm more interested in people planning to use quiet residential land for potential industrial purposes than anything else, so it would be good to hear from MirandaAshby or anyone else who knows a bit more about what is being planned.

If College, then I've dealt with Lewis Robinson (one of the councillors for that ward) in the past and he was really helpful.

Which end of Melford Road? If the Wood Vale end, where the chain link gates are, as far as I can see from the Property Search function, it's not registered land.

Settings > Advanced Settings > Port Forwarding > Firewall. That said I've seen some people report on the BT forums difficulties getting the settings to work but as you're technical that may not be an issue. Worked fine for me when I temporarily needed to open up a port for a ftp operation.

The washing hands at NCR was answered on the other thread, last time susiq (and others) asked. See below from MissDumpling: See http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?20,1038746,1075594#msg-1075594 MissDumpling Wrote: ------------------------ Stallholders have to have handwashing facilities on site. We earned 5 points at Mother's Dumplings - and we use a hand basin, hot water in flasks, cold water for mixing, anti-bacterial soap and a hand towel. As well as disposable food gloves. One of our support guys at work is/was very into it - he's also into photography and has some amazing shots from his excursions. However he's also spent the last six months waiting to hear if the CPS are going to take forward a prosecution for trespass against him and friends after they got caught somewhere they considered fairly innocuous. So not without risk...

That is amazing news. So chuffed to have something like this coming to the area.

Parking in front of driveway - no dropped curb

KK, I looked this up while back for someone on here. It is the drop kerb which is key and it is a PCN offence to park across one in most of London. The white line is a mere courtesy that some councils put in place. Will find the post. Edited to add: http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?20,449655,449679#msg-449679 -
Arena Flowers. No connection but use them a fair amount. Always happy with the results I've seen.

Have a look on the Roadworks Register - this should link to the right set: http://public.londonworks.gov.uk/roadworks/?x=5sxN5v2DuBuqjs3IugF7Fg There is then a link to report problems with those roadworks, including being "tidy and safe with a clutter-free site so it is safe for pedestrians, cyclists and other road users". No idea how responsive TFL are to this kind of stuff but it does appear to be the offical route to raise this sort of issue.

Another vote for FHR Supermarket next to the Rose - great for middle eastern ingredients and fresh herbs/veg and really nice helpful guys that run it.

Sakhalin. 2004. Like the Wild West but with more oil and gas and less women. None of us (me and three guys, all flown out from London to deal with a particular issue) slept much that week.

I pulled out of a sale of an ex council property (a while ago) when it became clear that none of the improvements made by the owner had been reported or approved by the Council. Nothing major but Southwark made it very clear they wouldn't necessarily retrospectively approve anything and wanted a big fee to do so in a timely fashion. Made the sale unviable for me.

100 hour pharmacy planning application CPR
Siduhe replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Pugwash Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------ Unfortunately all the pharmacists who turned up at the first applications' meeting all those years ago, did not keep to their promise of providing a rota of late night pharmacys in Dulwich and Nunhead - so this is where the DMC has the advantage. Couldn't agree with this more. The last application was turned down in part based on some very clear and public representations from local pharmacists that they would do more to support the community (inc. people like me who work long/odd hours and can't always leave home after 9am or be back before 6pm to pick up a prescription). I'm pretty furious that they did a grant total of f*all once the application was turned down. -
We also use FLAC - lossless, open source but supports proper tagging (which WAV doesn't).

This made me think of an experience I had on the 63 bus a couple of years ago. A woman got on with a double buggy - the bus wasn't particularly full but she pushed her way onto the bus aggressively and without any acknowledgement of people who moved to let her in. This led to a bit of tutting and sighing as well as a few sarcastic "you're welcome's". About 10 mins later I noticed she was trying hard not to cry and asked her if she was alright. She burst into tears and said she dreaded getting on the bus every day because people were so rude to her about her buggy and the fact she had two small children and she'd tried being nice but it didn't work and the only thing that worked was being aggressive and she hated it, but it was the only way for her to guarantee getting on the bus and being able to drop her kids off at childcare on time, because she was scared about losing her job if she kept being late. I've thought about this a lot since then. Like most people on the bus, I thought this woman was incredibly rude and let her know it (with a dirty look). Whereas she was actually pretty much at the end of her tether because she knew how we would see her. And I still feel quite ashamed about that when I think about it. I think *Bob* is pretty much spot on (even with sarcasm detector enabled) - there are expectations of manners on both sides which lead to this sort of stress/tension and make us much more quick to spot "rudeness". So when I hold a door now, I think of that woman and I try and do it with a genuine smile and acknowledgement rather than an expectation of response. There will always be rude people with no manners or awareness, but most people do respond to a friendly smile. And those that don't aren't worth it.

Technically, you need to keep the CDs. The Government is planning to change the law to make it legal to rip cds, but pending that, you're relying on a 2010/2011 statement from the BPS that they won't prosecute anyone who makes a digital copy of a CD for personal use, so long as they retain the original CD. We have boxes of them for that reason...sigh... Edited to add link to article: http://www.zdnet.com/uk/cd-ripping-to-be-permitted-following-uk-copyright-reform-7000009127/

If they are commercial "men with vans", then the Council won't collect bulk from them and they're not supposed to use the tip. Hence why it becomes attractive to just dump stuff. Shame as it gives the legitimate operators (including lots of man with vans who dispose of waste properly) a bad rep.

Spate of burglaries in East Dulwich
Siduhe replied to EastDulwichRose's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I queried a substantial increase to my building and contents insurance quotation with Halifax this week - was told it is nothing to do with us, or our house specifically, but that Halifax have reclassified our bit of SE22 as highest level risk for burglary and car crime based on last two years data. Nothing concrete to back this up but I'm looking at alternative cover, so will be interesting to see if other insurers say the same. -
Thinking about ED and the point buggie makes about impact on other local hospitals like Kings, I got a copy of the following exchange emailed to me today - courtesy of "They Work For You": http://www.theyworkforyou.com/debates/?id=2013-01-08a.169.0&s=speaker%3A10326#g173.1 Am still working my way through the doc btw, but appreciate the continued info!
