Who cycles to work from East Dulwich?
jim_the_chin replied to willma's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
depends where you're going it seems, up there Klaus said this: ------------------------------------------------------- > The route i use everyday into Soho goes down > Bellenden Road, through Warwick Gardens, down > Camberwell Groove, up Camberwell New Road, turn > right at the cricket ground, then through back > streets to Lambeth Bridge, across it, then back > streets up to Horse Guards Parade, under > Admirality Arch and in to Soho. while i'm here - i've been trawling gumtree for bikes but i keep seeing ones that i reckon are nicked - 1 year old and no history, that sort of thing. i wanted a 2nd hand one so it's not quite so nickable, or such a hit if it is nicked. should i just bite the bullet and get a new one - do edwardes still do 2nd hand bikes? -
Who cycles to work from East Dulwich?
jim_the_chin replied to willma's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi all, I'm about to get back in the saddle again for a daily journey to Soho. The TFL route takes me across Burgess park, which I'm not too keen about on winter nights given some other stories here. But the only other route seems to be up the Walworth road, which seems equally unpleasant. Any suggestions? -
Just followed a 185 going past the uplands, a strange sight. I imagine it is related to an incident outside the row of shops near the harvester at the plough junction. The road was shut at 3.20 and must still be.

Top tip: Go at 730am,. There's no other people, the shelves are stacked full, and the check out person was so bored she even put a few of my items into bags for me. it cut a good third off shopping time.

I've had cash taken out of my account in Canada, but with a card that had ben sent through the post and never used, we didn't even have the PIN number for it. Suggests more of an insider job to me.

keep it original, why buy vintage then try to make it look new? don't the scratches and wear add to it?

I spent a good 10 years of sunday mornings on the north downs before my bike and bones gave up the ghost. our best start route was in a car park just before holmbury st. mary, cycling up the hill from there took you to the top of holmbury hill, from there work your way east to leith hill for a stop at the top for cake and tea and back again. there is some tough climbing in this route though - but you can't really avoid climbing on the north downs. obviously, there's a thousand variations, the best way is to just head out and explore, take an OS map and see where you get to. holmbury is off the a25 dorking to guildford road, travel up for about a mile and you find the car park on your right, quite well hidden. if you get into holmbury village you've missed it. check the OS maps on their website. i'd love to come but have no bike no more (and am on holiday on that date).

i saw two vans beside it on friday and assumed they were going to clear it. what i always think is what would i do if it was in my back garden.

bag snatch on Lordship Lane
jim_the_chin replied to jim_the_chin's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
it was the bank teller who gave this description so it was a bit cursory. And I'm with c) by the way. If it's notable for anything it's the elaborate nature of the snatch, moing on from handbags lifts in the cafe. obviously they're using two people and with a plan to use the card immediately. i guess LL is more of a target now there's more apparent money in the area. -
Bit odd this one. A handbag on the side of a buggy was slashed and a purse taken out through the hole, the person then went to Barclays and tried to take out ?190 with a card but was rumbled by a security question. The woman was described as wearing a beret and with thick make-up. It happened around White Stuff this afternoon. This follows on from my cards being cloned by the Texaco folk this week and my car being ransacked last week. Delete as appropriate: a) It's all labour's fault. b) East Dulwich has gone to the dogs and I'm getting out of London and running to the country where there's no crime. c) We've had no crime for the 7 years we've been here so I guess it's our turn.

this is what i wrote last week: "i've just started going back to texaco after boyotting for a long time. i tried one lloyds card and it was declined and another was too, then used my debit card which did work. i rang the card co. up after and they said they'd put a security block on it because of unusual activity, which there hadn't really been, so i wonder if they're aware of this and declining transactions from this place. 48 hrs later and no strange trasnactions on my cards." today - 10 fraudulent transactions. DO NOT USE THE TEXACO GARAGE
-
Hi Strawbs, EDIT: I had recommended someone but I've taken out their name as I feel the subsequent posts are damaging to her personally. A debate is fine but not when a person has been named and is not around to defend themselves.

On Holiday and came home to open backdoor
jim_the_chin replied to anna_ed's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
i constantly leave my car unlocked due to poor memory, but it's made me feel more safe living in ed as nothing happens. until this week though when someone rifled through the contents. the shameful thing is they took nothing. my car contents are obviously worth nothing to the local scallys. -
i changed from the cpt to the mag for football watching and love it - room to sit and stand, loads of screens, decent enough beer selection, no chelsea man and fantastic pies and pizza. i wouldn't like to see it change and don't understand why as it's always busy when i'm there.

Cock a doodle d'oh; anyone else being woken by a cockerel?
jim_the_chin replied to Ant's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Yes, cockerel heard by me and by another CRP resident - we reckon its in-between those two roads. lazy bugger it is though, it was going at about half eight this morning, needs new batteries for the alarm clock. beats the sound of sirens anyway. they should get a few sheep as well. or i should just move to the countryside. -
Hit-and-run on my parked car, Colwell Rd.
jim_the_chin replied to simonscott's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
i was driven into by a van who gave me a false name and address, i had a witness who saw them drive off after they spoke to me and noted down the plate, went to the police and they wouldn't do anything about it as there wasn't enough evidence. i think unless you manage to video someone doing something with their name and address on a label round their necks old william won't get out of his comfy chair. -
tramps on whateley road........
jim_the_chin replied to sweetgirl's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
but if you're going to evict them where are they going to go - next door to someone else? people are people, some of them are crazy, loud and offensive (my next door neighbours included), but you can't go erecting personal middle-class exclusion zones and shoving the problem somewhere else. as I say, who are you going to put them next to? They hardly sound like the Hells Angels either. it could be worse, you could be living next to a Tory or something. -
At risk of opening up a different debate I don't see why it matters that the pram-pushing girls were Muslims. Do you describe everyone by their religion, or even ethnicity if you must see it that way, even when it has no bearing on the story you are telling? Just think about what you are saying there. Just to clarify Jamma, if that was directed at my post that was the point it was intending to make.
-
I exited the train station in Peckham last night, three young Muslim girls were pushing pushchairs into the road, one of them caught the pushchair on the last wheel of a Number 12 bus. No doubt it would be the fault of the driver. those muslims eh? always pushing prams into buses and getting the driver blamed. i'm afraid i detect a general lack of tolerance for people in the original post. have you never ever done this libracarr or something similar? are your standards so high that you are infallible, as both driver and pedestrian? I'm sorry but i just can't tolerate people who can't tolerate people.
