Surely ANY food you eat whilst walking is street food? Louisa.

My wifi is working fine. Not tried posting using 3G on the dog yet though, I'll try now. Louisa. -
Aww I remember those "stay on topic" days. I was often drifting off into my own world straying into the realms of posh prams and daffodils. It seems I'm often the one clutching at straws using the stay on topic line myself when I'm back into a corner or made to feel guilty for occasionally talking about issues that concern me (street food, class, iceland). The term street food is just a hyped up London media-type bubble phrase thrown into the mix to make shit food sound cool. Reminds me of the Harry Enfield 'I saw you coming' clip. Louisa.

Is walking down the road with a of monster munch from the sweet shop street food? robbin sign of the times indeed. Who knows one day we might even have ED stallholders exiled to Stratford? Louisa.

No you're quite right robbin, it's very rude of me. But I don't particularly give a toss tbh, that's how I feel! Your response is of course totally not patronising. Nice to know you love @?#%%# Stratford with its grotty Westfield so much. I think however, that's not gentrification that brought that about, it was more to do with big retailers cashing in on the Olympic effect :) Louisa.

East Dulwich was never a total dump like some of the now popular with hipster, gentrified places. It was just a no mans land with good housing stock and a dying high street thanks to Sainsburys opening on DKH. The perfect storm helped it become gentrified gradually. Other areas with rushed or forced gentrification never gel as a community. Its the spirit of the old ED which has prevented gentrification from totally destroying the close knit community nature of the place. Louisa.

Quids it's not trolling or a bad answer, you just disagree that's the reality. Check out Stratford in East London, the build up to the Olympics etc and pending gentrification was expected and promoted by estate agents which forced out lots of shop keepers and businesses because of the threat of rising rents. Now look at it, no gentrification, ridiculous rents and a Westfield shopping centre. In a nutshell, ED is no different. I just checked back and the market was the first thing I spoke about on this forum in 2007 with Otta I believe. Louisa.

Quids they were forced out by the threat of gentrification in the future. Some of the old stall holders from the 70s/80s ended up down in Orpington. I'm sure they would love to come back but it seems the market is the exclusive haunt of posh people these days. Such a shame. MrBen.... Silver? Really? And as for JSP glasses!? Horrific. The only thing I have in common with that woman is my outspoken nature, and love for people in general. I'm a warm person. Louisa.

The way tinned sweets (roses, quality street and the ilk) have becoming smaller year on year and contain fewer and fewer sweets and yet the price remains the same. Greedy sodding chocolate makers. Louisa.
-
Fox there was a market nearly the entire length of the street. But it was a proper market selling everything in those days. Jeremy I am not sure if I'm a character or not but I have been told I resemble Joan Collins younger sister in certain poor lighting. Her name escapes me. Louisa.

What's wrong with Clock House? It's got a Sainsburys Local and a train station what's not to like? You're sandwiched half way between penge and beckenham so you have kfc and a 99p shop 10 min walk in one direction, and a Waitrose and M&S 10 min walk the other direction. Best of both worlds. Louisa.

Time doesn't stand still. Who wants vibrant neighborhoods with local characters and gritty working class London reality when you can make everywhere in London overly expensive, well educated, pretentious and socially homogenised en mass. These crazy poor people wanting to live and buy in the place they were born in, absolute nutters. Totally unreasonable. Louisa.

If anything - the estate agent boom, caused by gentrification, has contributed to parking woes more than any of the other concerns combined x 10 Louisa.
-
Quids, before Iceland and the indian restaurants? They're all still here, alongside the market. I don't think the Iceland store adds to parking worries, nor do the curry houses. Louisa.
-
I live nowhere near North cross so I wouldn't want to step on DF or Sue's toes on this one. My main concern is the relevance of the market and whether the pros outweigh the cons. Louisa.

Mr Louisa I keep telling you these half hearted attempts to escape this marriage by posting for help on here are falling on deaf ears. Now get back in the loft before I deprive you of water as well as food. Louisa.

How far around the market (by streets) in terms of parking and "smells" Do the effects travel? Be interesting to know. Louisa.

I have to be cliche and say bah humbug. "A day older and not a day richer" in the words of Ebenezer himself. Lots of bills to pay alongside the expectation of family and friends to waste money on gifts and cards for them (probably never appreciated). The cost of all the unhealthy rich seasonal food and the horrid January diet that follows. I couldn't feel less festive if I tried. However, I am enjoying the shortcrust mince pies on offer. Louisa.
-
Well it's difficult to know seeing as this forum isn't representative of the entire population in the surrounding streets. Louisa.

I can appreciate the concerns many have about the market. If it were a huge community asset, a large established market aimed at everyone in the area providing a huge variety of goods and services (East lane, Portabello) then I could probably be a lot more sympathetic. It seems a shame this market is only aimed at a proportion of the entire ED population. Louisa.

Ronnie Wood on stage with One Direction. Whatever next. Fleur should probably win, although it's very close, I think Ben will win it. Louisa.

Use of the term 'parking lot' instead of car park, it seems a lot of people nowadays use this Americanism and grates almost as much as a hipster baking sourdough bread or that ginger comedian on ITV2. Louisa.
