Hopefully a reimagining of Le Moulin would be great. Louisa.

I think it's great to have something practical and servicing the community in this spot rather than another restaurant. Lots of elderly people have pets and don't drive, this will be a welcome addition to the heart of the community. Louisa.

Veterinary surgery relocation from corner of Barry RD/Peckham Rye. Louisa.

Nigello it depresses me every time I walk or drive past. So many happy memories of friends, drinking after a beautifully cooked meal with Margaret and Eric into the late hours. Very happy days. To see it empty does this stretch of shops a total disservice. Sort it out whoever owns it please. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I do hope you both are enjoying your retirement. You're very dearly missed around here by me and many others. A truly authentic taste of France in the heart of ED. Louisa.

That's great news Polly. I do hope its as good as Le Moulin was. Louisa.

Anti-social neighbours - Southwark refuses to act
Louisa replied to Lee Scoresby's topic in The Lounge
I am in complete admiration of you Lee Scoresby, for managing to keep your cool over this situation. I would advise that you call the non-emergency met police number and get some people around to take details and monitor the situation. If you can afford a webcam which can record noise that would be good too. No one should be subjected to this sort of anti social and fundamentally selfish behaviour. In recent years I have noticed an increase in house shares in the area, mostly younger people taking on terraced properties and possibly sharing the rent? Most are of course considerate of their adopted surroundings and seem to be well behaved and civil. Some however, a minority, seem to think that leaving mum and dads and renting in London gives them a free pass to regular gatherings involving drunken antics, loud music and shouting in the garden until God knows what time in the early hours. I don't recall as much of this years ago, possibly in the last 5/10 years it has increased dramatically. If you are moving to a neighborhood, it's not a party destination where you have a free for all to make noise like you're on some all inclusive in Ibiza. This is actually a quiet residential location in the suburbs with many families and people who are getting up early the next morning. Be a bit more respectful of the people around you and if you are going to have a gathering/party make sure it is fairly irregular and most importantly you warm your neighbours about what you have planned and possibly even invite them too? Also, common sense stuff (I know some of these wet behind the ears types need it spelt out to them) like, don't go on past a certain time. Don't let your loud friends go into the garden shouting to the top of their voice, turn the bloody music down. Etc etc. Louisa. -
Big up to the Gardeners at Peckham Rye Park
Louisa replied to PeckhamRose's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I too recently went on a walk around the common and the park, and concur with the above sentiments. The main entrance off the common has returned to its previous former glory days of the early 1950's. Stunning bedding plants and a beautiful display. I would love to see a small museum about the history of the park, and perhaps some signs to point out the location of the old Homestall Farmhouse and where it was in conjunction with the present day park. Louisa. -
Just for you Alan Medic. http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/1974640/beef-ale-and-parsnip-pudding Here is a slightly alternate version, but it can be made with meat alternatives too. Louisa.

Steamed suet pudding as Jeremy says above. Very traditional. Steak and kidney is the best, but muncher beef works just as well, some offal is good too. Usually wrapped up in a cloth casing and steamed over hot water for a good hour or so. Served usually with veg potatoes and gravy. Louisa.

Is today wind up foxy day or something? Second thread I've seen some group fox hunting going down. Louisa.

My manners are impeccable lately remember? ;-) hubby is in his own little world most of the time so doesn't really matter either way. My visitors on the other hand must have hand picked their manners straight from the Maidstone school of etiquette. Louisa.

TV presenters like David Dickenson. The tan, the out of date faux attempt at a 'Lovejoy' look. The patronising language. That's why I would never go on Real Deal, ever. Louisa.

Or maybe it will be replaced by Wahaca. Huh hmm. Louisa.

I like tv when I'm eating or radio at least. Can't bare being sat in silence with Mr Louisa eating, puts me off my food. Again, when it comes to dinner time it all depends on my mood, sometimes I'll just have a sandwich if I'm not overly hungry. Louisa.

Cheers HMB. Looks good. Had no idea about it! Foxy you let me down, I was hoping for a personal pm on this one! How comes the fox gets a personal tour and I have to find out going to the shop to stock up on vino. Not fair. Louisa.

Had a stroll down EDR this afternoon and noticed the former Chinese buffet place next to Rose's fish and chip shop is about to become Jaflong Indian-Asian buffet (new sign up and work going on inside). Looks nice a good prices too from what I could see (prices are written up on the signage). Have these people left LL? I'm sure they had a restaurant there. Louisa.

Food is for wimps IMO. I would much rather have got stuck into the messy stuff and been half cut by the time they arrived. Maybe we could have even laughed off our contempt for one another. But no, they wanted to sup on ice water and talk about the weather. From now on, guests get alcohol or nothing. Louisa.

It's absolutely outrageous that all that cardboard was left laying around in store. It could potentially be a lethal hazard to a visually impaired or elderly person and there really isn't any need for it. The staff should be concerned with the image of the store, and the fact it should be in good order at all times. I am disgusted by these photographs. I agree farmers deserve fair milk prices, but the big supermarkets should be paying the suppliers those fair prices and passing the discounts down to the customers as a loss leader (most people who pop in to store don't just buy milk as a stand alone product so it would make sense for it to be cheap at retail price). Louisa.

Mostly because I wasn't over enthusiastic about said gathering, I put minimal effort in to begin with. Wasn't being nasty or rude, just couldn't be arsed. I would have been happy just sat in the garden drinking wine in the sun (or lack of) for the evening but this lot are teetotaller's anyway so that wasn't on the cards. I honestly did try my best to make them feel welcome despite my reservations, and I didn't knowingly serve Mr L first because of some sort of partriachal status, he was just closest to me walking into the room. Anything to have a dig with some people it would seem. I would never personally put food out to help themselves unless it was a Sunday roast or Christmas. I try to be as informal as I possibly can. Louisa.

The Iceland store never had these problems, always well stocked shelves with friendly and competent staff. They were like a family in there. Louisa.

If I were at a restaurant I'd probably wait for everyone's food to arrive, but in my own informal setting I've always been laid back and don't have any expectations whatsoever. Don't often have guests for dinner these days so perhaps I should/could have made the request to mr Louisa before they arrived. But then again, there certainly isn't any love lost between us and I couldn't give a monkeys whether I see them again or not. I'm just fascinated by some peoples fascination with etiquette. It's never been top of my list when I'm hungry! Louisa.

It seems the same management team who ran the previous Somerfield, and Gateway before that are still in charge at this location despite the change in retailer. And I agree, the place is shockingly bad. Co-op won't be giving up this prime site anytime soon though, so we will just have to put up with it. Louisa.

Had some visitors today, family I've not seen in many years. Classic done good, moved to Maidstone and only speak to use when it suits types. Not overly keen, never have been. But anyway. So I made a steamed pudding with mash, veg and gravy. Four of us at the table. Mr Louisa always tucks in once it's landed on the table. So he gets his first and starts eating, then my guest immediately questions his manners for eating before everyone else had received their food. It was said in a sort of jokey way but with hidden undertones of seriousness (no doubt they would have talked about it in the car on the way home). I was a bit shocked to be honest, I've never had a problem with people tucking in before everyone else's has arrived and found this a bit of a strange thing to say whilst a guest in my house. My question is, is it bad etiquette for someone to start dinner without others starting theirs? Is it rude to eat with your mouth open? I suppose I have always been quite informal, we often eat our dinner in front of the tv and there isn't any set of rules regarding who can eat and when. Am I alone on this? They won't be invited back again. Louisa.

Hear hear, Sue. You didn't go into Iceland to buy everything, but some things were very good value for money. Essentials and frozen produce were especially good value. IMO the co-op needs to close. Went in for some bits earlier and was shocked at the cost of milk. Daylight robbery. Won't be returning for essentials there again. A lidl or asda convenience would be far better. Louisa.

Kids and younger people in general nowadays saying "wow" when they're put in their place by parents, authority or whoever else. Really gets on my goat, such an obscene Americanism. Louisa.
