The invisible zebra crossing!
James Barber replied to bermygirl's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Doesn't the Highway code have something about pedestrians having prioprity when behicels turn from a main road to msaller road. eitherway I've asked for an onsite meting with officers to review how we can make that junction safer. -
Hi robbin, some people had much more than 5 minutes.

Pocket, Each bus has many more people than a row of cars. If more people travel by bus and leave car at home our roads are clearer for everyone. If you've ever travelled on buses in East Dulwich the only times I've ever experience being 1 of less than 10 passengers is very late at night when traffic si such that the bus priority makes no difference.

Not much comfort but Ihave asked if this power company can attend the next Dulwich Community council to explain what the - is gonig on. They must surely have redundant back-ups to ensure power continuity.

Hi mynamehere, Thanks you for trying to be so public spirited. Appreciated. Can you PM or email me exactly where this bin is and I'll get it emptied. Hi urbanfox/BrandNewGuy, Will request details of what's changed and why. -
Last time I surveyed Lordship Lane two years ago it scored really really highly as a Hometown with lots of indie shops - http://jamesbarber.mycouncillor.org.uk/2013/05/16/lordship-lane-hometown/ On a scale of 0-100 Lorsdhip Lane was a 73 in the northern sectino and 75 around Dulwich Library. Anything above 65 is considered a good Hometown. I was planning to survey it again - anyone want to help me do this?

Dulwich & West Norwood Results
James Barber replied to Penguin68's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
C&P is still well below the national average in income etc. Southwark has moved from bottom 10 for deprivation to bottom 50. Huge progress but hardly gentrified. Dulwich & West Norwood. Village ward is just about average for incomes etc and it's the better off 8th of the constituency. -
Dulwich & West Norwood Results
James Barber replied to Penguin68's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
We put a huge amount of our effort into helping Simon Hughes. I think P68 analysis is spot on. Lib dem strategy played to the Tory strategy of fear about Labour and SNP. Labour out campaigned us locally with things like hours to save the NHS, coalition will close King's College hospital, etc. Either way its over. Unlikely they'll ever be another Dulwich & West Norwood general election campaign assuming the tories now press ahead with significant boundary changes. -

Perhaps worth reading the Wiki version of those events in 1983 rather than incomplete rumours: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bermondsey_by-election,_1983 -

Dulwich & West Norwood Results
James Barber replied to Penguin68's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi holloway, I'm not part of any exodus. Since the er...dramatic... results 650 new members have signed up to the Lib Dems. Our bird symbol is a bit Phoenix like. So down but not out. And we still have lots to do in East Dulwich. -
Immobile white van dumped in Spurling Road- eyesore!
James Barber replied to picknmix's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
From this thread I've had 4 such instances emailed to me and all are progressing with council officers. Some had been repeatedly raised with Southwark Council by residents without success so effectively I've been used to escalate each one and I'm assured they're being investigated. Three have lapsed tax disks and appear un road worthy. -

email me its number plate and I will get it removed assuming as stated it isn't road worthy. -
Motorcycle theft Peckham Rye
James Barber replied to Peckham Rye LPT's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
If anyone in East Dulwich ward (bounded by Grove Vale-East Dulwich Rd-Crystal Palace Rd-Upland Road-FRiern Rd- Underhill Rd-Dunstans Rd-Lordship Lane-Melbourne Grove) wants a ground anchor to lock their motorbike or bicycle - email me and we'll get them installed for you. It one of the many crime prevention initiatives Cllr Rosie Shimell and I have been working on. -
Clearly as a Lib Dem I defend the right to free speach. But the implied assumption The Charter School can't have made the right candidate choice isn't fair. They had all the facts and we don't. When people google search TCSED in the future this will all pop up which will make the job harder convincing paretns to put our new secondary school as their first choice.

Greendale Scout Hut closure by JAGS - what to do now?
James Barber replied to flanter's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
They mean the JAGS tennis court area accessed via Red Post Hill. Have you asked if they could host any of these activities in other parts of JAGS or their sport centre? -
I'm delighted that the TCED has moved so quickly. I congratulate them on this. Working with the EFA and NHS Property will be a very demanding role and the mix of school leadership, project management skills and experience sounds a wise balance for this role. As someone who has had several careers each benefiting from earlier ones I can see no problem in our new head having experience in the financial sector. I trust TCS teams judgement in making this appointment. They clearly put together the best application for our new secondary school and I have no doubt they've chosen the best candidate for this new headship role. I wonder whether the second coming would have made people happy with this appointment!

How primary schools manage lost property
James Barber replied to The Nappy Lady's topic in The Family Room Discussion
This sounds awful. Can you PM me which school and I'd be happy to raise with the head. It's bad enough policy/process but some families just could'nt afford to replace any items lost in this system. -
Thanks JohnL, You might be interested in a book I have called "Normal Accidents". The idea is perfectly nortmal asctivities that when brought together go horribly wrong. Happy to lend it to you if interested. PM me. I used to help design new systems and systems upgrades and then Kaizan/Lean Production. Lots of crossover of thinking.

former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?
James Barber replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
East Dulwich Road will be closed Thursday 28th and Friday 29th May between Goose Green roundabout and Ady's Road for resurfacing. I've asked whether it really is a total road closure - with buses and vehciles diverted - or just severe disruption with traffic lights. The attached implies the former. Throughout I've been assured the pavements will remain open. -
