  1. What the parks need is some sort of common sense compact with users. So: * If you have a dog, keep it under control, keep it out of the few areas where dogs are banned and pick up after it * If you are eating or drinking in the park, get rid of your litter responsibly and clean up after yourself. * Don't have BBQs unless in designated areas. * If you're cycling, or running, give way to pedestrians. * Do nothing that harms the equipment or flora in the park, or act in a away that reduces the utility of the park for other users. * Report anything you see that contravenes these standards of behaviour. And then police these rules. I'm sure we could all add a few, but that's all that's needed: a simple statement of expected standards, backed up with censure for those who don't abide. Certainly not more pettifogging rules and restrictions. But rather trying to publicise among all users the way people like me (who walks his dog, cycles, walks and runs in the parks) behave day in day out. The key to the success of our parks is that they are used and safe. Keeping out a group who use them in all weathers is not a good idea. So
  2. A good performance. They started second best, but finished well on top, even with ten men. Great crowd as well.
  3. There's a bucket of cash at each home game! But you're probably right. The bossing of the lower half of the Isthmian is afoot.
  4. Come on The Hamlet. The bossing of the Isthmian is afoot.
  5. The club are hoping for around 1500. So that's more than on that most epic of days when the Hamlet won the league and the queues streched to Sainsbury's. I'd allow at least 15-30 mins to get through the turnstyle. Although they do open the other one when it gets busy!
  6. Yes, that's bad.
  7. Bit more complex than that. See here http://www.bikehub.co.uk/featured-articles/cycling-and-the-law/
  8. Matryx Read my post again. I was joking. I do not think pedestrians should pay road tax or take a test. And like every cyclist, I know the "road tax doesn't exist" point inside out.

No. I'm talking about your cotton-clad I-Zombie. They should pay Road Tax. And take a test.
  10. In those cases, cyclists are a menace to pedestrians. But I would say around 50% of the situations where I'm in some sort danger on the road are when pedestrians head off the pavement into the road without looking for cyclists. The I-Zombie is the biggest menace.
  11. As a cyclist, pedestrian, runner and dog walker, never had a problem with people cycling on the pavement. Annoying, occasionally, but rarely reckless in my experience. Pedestrians though are an absolute menace to cyclists! Cycling in parks is a bigger issue. Not that people do it, but that often they do so recklessly. To bring it back to local relevance, the weekend warriors that use Dulwich Park as a racetrack are the worst. But also people heading through Surrey Canal and Burgess Parks as if the paths through there are roads. I also saw a cyclist ringing his bell at two women pushing buggies along the path that heads to Barry Road from the Nunhead corner of Peckham Rye, forcing them to go onto the grass. Poor show. The basic rule of thumb is that cyclists should give way to pedestrians and ride cautiously when they're using the same strech of road or path.
  12. He did. But his Finca remains.
  13. Head east into the hills. We stayed here - http://cantalaias.com/en/location/- Terry Thomas's old gaff, now run by his son. Very quiet, lots of great beaches and small villages hereabouts. Need a car though.
  14. Poor trolling UncleBen. Very poor. Peckham is what it is. I was out tonight and the place was buzzing; from Franks through to Bellenden, it's different from ED and probably less safe (in all senses of the term). But I like a bit of grit. One doesn't live in London for homogeneity and calm.
  15. I think Nununoolio is right. Southwark have very knowledgeable tree people and are famously protective of trees, in their parks and in conservation areas where permission has to sought to fell trees. The buggers refused me permission to fell a sycamore in my garden! Could clearly be more transparent and informative about what they're up to though.
  16. You can get a same day appointment if lucky. Be prepared to beg and explain the urgency of the situation. Once you've got an appointment it's quick but costly to get a passport processed on the same day.
  17. There was a tweet from the Friends of Peckham Rye last week about this, saying Southwark parking target Strakers at the weekend. They do the same outside Belair Park when the steam fair is on.
  18. What a day that was. The video captures it perfectly. The history, present and one hopes future of Dulwich Hamlet is something of which this area should be very proud. Go experience the club next season if you haven't already. It is very special.
  19. Four young men, apparently palace fans, tried to steal the Burgess Hill flag behind the goal. One if the Burgess Hill fans hurt his hand in the process. I think the club have vowed to ban them if identified.
  20. What a freakin game. 1150 people there, going mental. Footer in the raw.
  21. The rapist has now been sentenced. http://crimeandjustice.co.uk/2013/04/24/rapist-jailed-peckham/ And those of you who use it will know new lights have now gone in and improved visibility on the path a lot. To my knowledge there have been no attacks in WG recently.
  22. I was bitten by a dog once out running. But only dog incident I've faced in six years running. Plenty of aggressive incidents from people though. Sympathies to your partner. On a point if detail, I think dogs are allowed off the lead on the Tarmac and dirt track area. It's where most people walk their dogs in DP. The middle of the park (cafe and behind) is where you are meant to leash them.
  23. Where Copleston meets Grove Vale I guess. Could be better signed.
  24. taper

    Rugby matters

Quite. England looking very good against strong sides. Humbling the Irish. Out thinking the French. Lucky my arse.
