  1. "I am still not sure what the purpose of moaning about poo on the forum is" Perhaps the purpose could be for those of us who have a dog to prove their innocence and thereby remove themselves from any associated opprobrium. So here goes: I have never walked my dog down Beauval Road. If I did and it crapped I would pick it up. Will others follow my example?
  2. Running in the snow is a joy. Short steps, avoid ice, run on snow that isn't compacted.
  3. ?9 entry , children go free. I hope to be there. Should be a big crowd. And with the Turkish Ultras bossing the stands, that should make for a mighty atmosphere.
  4. Let us refer to them as lycra-clad nazis. Unlicensed sweaty tight trousered stormtroopers.
  5. Got better briefly, now a problem again ( I'm a few streets east of you). The Thames water site gives updatesl
  6. Burst water main on Vestry
  7. Me too. It's truly awful, but compelling.
  8. It's an excellent school.
  9. Thanks James We're doing just that. Southwark officers are being very helpful, so we're quietly confident.
  10. The Friends of the park are working with LB Southwark as a matter of urgency to improve the lighting. We'll be arranging a public meeting soon to discuss other measures and I'll post details once arranged.
  11. Steve Bunce is checking rumours that Kirkland Laing has died. Dave Boy Green said he was the nearest this country ever got to a Sugar Ray Leonard.
  12. First thing: you have enough time to get to London in a position to finish and finish well. There are lots of training plans out there. I would join the Runners World Forum online and lurk around or join one of the VLM groups. Lots of tips there and support. Check out Jeff Galloway's walk run plans. I would consider joining a running group. Depends on your character. I am a lone runner and can run for over three hours happy in my own company. But a group like Dulwich Park Runners will give you a lot of support and encouragement if that's what you need. But before all of that, get down to a good running shop and get yourself the right shoes. You will need them and the wrong ones will bugger up your bones. And build up your miles and running frequency. By March you will need to be running three or four times a week, with a long run of at least 15 miles. Your last long run should be at least twenty.
  13. 'as well as being shown to be beneficial...' Where? I've found no evidence.
  14. Where do you live? You can run a good 10k route via three of the following: brockwell, Dulwich, Belair, Peckham rye and Burgess. I do a 10k loop through Burgess to Kennington Park and back but live in Peckham. For hills head up to Sydenham Wood and Crystal Palace.
  15. Denman's lovely. Very active community. And the area is brilliant. The higher you are up the slope the better though. Can get a bit tasty down near the Talfourd Place junction.
  16. There is no evidence Reflexology has any positive medical outcomes beyond the placebo effect. A good foot rub is nice though.
  17. Warwick Gardens is used a lot as a thoroughfare, so people heading to and from from work via Peckham Rye. Historically, a road (Azenby) ran through it to Lyndhurst Way. When the houses were demolished and a green space created, it was kept open. Not unusual in southwark: Burgess Park is similar although on a bigger scale. I think the dog walkers were behind the protests about ten years ago. I certainly support keeping it open 24 hours. Southwark is lousy at keeping its parks open during hours when people want to use them. Closing WG would inconvenience a lot of people and force more pedestrians and cyclists onto Lyndhurst Grove which can be a bit of rat run. But more importantly, I think closing it would be a victory for the scumbags who commit crimes like this. Better use, better lighting and people being aware of the risks are the way forward, rather than closing it down for half the day.
  18. Shutting the park at night would be very unpopular. Southwark tried to do so some years ago and there was a huge protest against. Better lighting would help. The current lights are not as good as the ones we had (removed a year or so ago because they were rusting). I'm involved with the Friends of WG, for whom this has long been an issue. And in the light of the recent incident, we plan to pursue the issue of safety with Southwark and the local Police. Happy to feed in any views people might have.
  19. The Police leafleted my house on LG.
  20. "We always hoped the space would be 'reclaimed' by local residents and turned into somewhere friendly and safe." It has. The park has just been awarded a green flag and has improved massively over the last five years in terms of amenities, usage and the support of local people. But incidents like this are impossible to prevent entirely in a space that's open 24 hours.
  21. Awful. I would caution against going through WG in the dark. Unfortunately there have been quite a few nasty incidents there in the last few years.
  22. Dumb post. When I lived in Hackney two women runners were badly attacked in parks within a few years of one another. One died . But both in parks. You'll be safe running on main roads at 6am round here.
  23. With a bit of Tarmac, you could manage a 10k trail around Peckham Rye and Nunhead cemetery. Clapham Common good too.
  24. Today's game was incredible. Playing against the league leaders, the first half was tight and Folkestone had the edge. But the second half, with the diminutive Oztumer (genuinely) playing like a Ryman Messi, was fabulous. Oztumer's first goal was the best goal you've ever seen. Then the fecker, all five foot three of him (amidst a huge Invicta) makes monkies of the south coasters, scores a pen and leaves the field to a tumultuous standing ovation from the 400 crowd. The Hamlet were awesome. Get your arses down there.

Preferably avoiding Walworth > road/Elephant and castle. Easy. Head up to Peckham Library, down the Surrey Canal Path, over Burgess Park and either up the OKR or in parallel to it until you get to the Bricklayers Arms flyover. Under the underpass, up or in parallel to the road that leads you to Tower Bridge and then down the southbank to London Bridge.
