  1. Not sure it's the best, but Michael Schenker's in UFO's Strangers in the Night version of Lights Out is pretty good. In fact you get a couple. And East Bay Ray in the DK's Holiday in Cambodia
  2. Nice quick cycle journey - 30 minutes door to door.
  3. "Not sure I agree with the 'ok for men, but take care ladies' view" Not what I'm saying. I'm saying my 5 year incident free experience of running early in the morning around here might be something to do with my size and appearance. But I'd say running at that time on main streets is fine.
  4. I run anywhere anytime, but am a large male! I think on a dark morning at 6am you are fine on the streets, particularly busy ones. Parks might be a bit iffy at that time occasionally. Camberwell Grove is certainly safe as houses at that time. Only early morning commuters about. So if you stick to the main roads you'll be ok.
  5. There are some troubling parallels here with the Lozells riots of 2005. I suggest posters consider very carefully what they post here. Unfounded rumours and hyperbole on discussion forums played an incendiary role in the lead up to the Lozells riots. So not a time for Internet blowhard-ery.
  6. The formal city has some of the worst schools in England. West Bridgford is just outside the city (although in the conurbation) quite upmarket and has excellent schools. West Bridgford comp is much sought after. Parts of Wollaton and Beeston ( near the QMC) are pleasant enough with good schools. And near the University, which is lovely with grounds open to the public. The league table for schools in Notts is a good place to start. It's a fine place, with a superb football club.
  7. There's a more illuminating discussion on this issue at BobfromBrockley's blog, here: http://brockley.blogspot.co.uk/2012/07/foreskin-politics-continued.html?m=1 The discussion in the comments with Marko Attila Hoare is particularly good
  8. Christopher Hitchens opines on the matter (3:30 to 6:35). Personally, I concur entirely.
  9. The Eubank fight was excellent. Seems to have his father's toughness, with better movement and speed, and a weaker punch. Fury I like. But Price is the better prospect at World level.

  11. Neilly1973 You found Trevor Gunn and Magda Taylor balanced? Taylor is a crank. Gunn is worse: a homeopath. Both promote a bizarre and unscientific approach to vaccinations. Trust the NHS for advice, not ill qualified crackpots and conspiracy theorists.
  12. Do you drive a bike? No. We're talking about four wheeled vehicles. And as a cyclist I'd say the worst (so most dangerous) are in order: Local authority bulky rubbish vans Addisson Lee/people carrier minicab types Delivery vans other than Royal Mail vans Royal Mail vans Lexus drivers Ruskin Private Hire Motorcycle couriers Clarkes coaches Skip lorries (AKA cycle killers) Black Cabs Old Volvos with one front light Hipster driven scooters Modern Mercedes Benzs Builder vans pre-8am before hangover has softened Demented costermongers leaving East St Market of an evening.
  13. My response is to TE44 who is clearly trying to resurrect the MMR/Autism scare on this forum by linking through to a scare site. Saffron too (JABs).
  14. I cannot believe some people continue to push the mmr scare stories. The Italian court case is an aberration and meaningless in the face of overwhelming evidence there is no autism link. Nutters like JABs leap on it to resurrect their conspiracy theories. Can't we put this one to bed and not worry parents unnecessarily.
  15. 'another tool of coroprate fascism ?' Possibly. Or just a legitimate attempt to stop slackers nicking stuff.
  16. I once had the fastest pet Greyhound in the World. She chased squirrels remorselessly, but only caught one once. It bit her on the nose and escaped. Tough and canny buggers squirrels. Can't believe many get caught by dogs.
  17. It isn't allowed in Peckham Rye park or most other parks because of the damage they do.

And Percy Pigs. Read the damn thread. Oh and microwaveable mashed potato.
  19. Do you want frozen quiche or Percy Pigs? Nuff said.
  20. Hosanna Hey Sanna Sanna Sanna Hosanna Hey Sanna Hosanna.
  21. The fact there is no evidence in favour should ring alarm bells. It would be in a lot of people's interest to show there is a positive impact. Also there's no plausible mechanism. So given the dangers, probably worth avoiding. They look purdy though.
  22. If 52k is right, that's a staggering waste of cash for a rather ropey festival. If the 'offer' is good enough, you work hard for sponsorship, charge stallholders and get good volunteers on board, you can do a pretty good festival with a modest subsidy or with no subsidy at all. I bet the Peckham Rye Garden f?te the Friends run in September gets by on very little.
  23. The irony is that Addisson Lee are near the top of any cyclist's danger list in London. His drivers are notorious for driving like aholes and are a far greater danger to the public than the odd dickhead on a bike. As for "Rubbish, snowy", it's not rubbish it's a fact in law (although ALee are currently testing that law in the High Court). Minicabs using bus lanes would be a retrogade step in London, both for the speed of buses and the safety of cyclists. But as you say, he's probably making this remarks for free publicity. He will regret attracting the ire of London's (admittedly rather self righteous at times) cyclists though.
  24. Runners Need I've used and found to be pretty good. Their staff are usually runners, know their stuff and use video gait analysis. Run and Become didn't do video analysis when last I went. They have you running outside the shop and do it by eye. Very experienced staff though. Take some old trainers so they can look at the soles. London City Runner near St Pauls I like too. Once you have a shoe that works for you, I then buy of the Internet as it tends to be cheaper.
