    Great Gigs

Desasparecidos were immense and awesome last night at the Electric Ballroom, and Conor Oberst flying solo last week at the Barbican was a force of nature. He's possessed of a ferocity that one man and his acoustic guitar shouldn't humanly have, and wit and beauty by the bucketload. The man's amazing, and seeing him twice in the space of a week is a rare treat. I'm knackered, but very happy this morning.
  4. Did anyone watch the Dispatches programme on fruit and veg? They undertook a secret shopper style mission to buy various items on the shopping list. Turned out supermarkets were cheaper for some things, markets for others. I was surprised, as I thought, given the premise of the show, that it would be markets and greengrocers all the way who were cheapest. There's really no hard and fast rule - as has been stated a couple of times above, you've got to shop around. And if you're going to Sainsbury's, buy their Basics range.
  5. I've flagged to the police who shared the information, so they can check / amend their records.

Me? Uggs? The very idea! I'd sooner don a pair of Crocs. But I'll put on a onesie and my agent provocateur marabou heels and meet you by the Monster Munch (emergency hangover rations...)

Wow, I can well understand your not bothering to go see the Verve (although, assume that was the Haigh Hall gig - a very nice place for a stroll, so you missed out there), but electing to stay in the Plough instead??? Yowsers.
  8. Pretty Traditional greengrocers on Northcross Road. Peckham's great for veg, but you do need to look more carefully at what you're buying than you would in a supermarket and be choosy. It's a bit more hassle, but will save you a fortune compared to Sainsbury's. Also, Lidl in Peckham - the veg isn't all cheaper than you'd find in Sainsbury's but worth a look for other staples like olive oil, tinned tomatoes, chickpeas etc.
  9. Well, you know what people are like! Ok, so this was from local PCSO: "Please can everyone keep an eye out for the following vehicle which is involved in recent attempted burglaries in The Gardens and other areas nearby. If you can advertise this when ever possible I would appreciate it. A Grey VW golf reg: BV08 TWN Likely to have 3 black men inside aged 20-30 yrs. Ring 999 if spotted"
  10. Had a note from the local neighbourhood watch police - a grey VW golf. Are we allowed to include the registration - it's come from the met, so reputable (!) - but I'm not sure about the rules for such things on here.

  12. It's a Guy Ritchie film: Gang Activity
  13. Yeah, I think unless you did it first time round, you just look a prize tw@t. Throw your own shapes, I say. Or maybe in homage to the mighty Mac, it's better phrased thus: go your own way.
  14. Oh, MrBen, with a name like that, I would have thought you'd be well into diverse fashions. Which begs the question: why, oh why, oh why are you always so very perplexed by other people's attire? Get thee into the cupboard and come yourself out a cowboy / astronaut / frolicsome wench. Meantime, consider this: http://www.vogue.co.uk/blogs/the-vogue-blog/2011/09/17/the-cats-pyjamas---j-w-anderson-show Pyjamas are the very thing (at least they were last year - ED's never been the land of the early adopter).
  15. ACE!!! I hear you David, went to an all-nighter in Leeds a couple of years back, and there were people in their 50s and 60s who completely put me to shame on the dancefloor. It was awesome.

  17. Grrr, bloody Roullier White bastards!!!
  18. Put 'em in the scuppers with a hosepipe on 'em.
  19. This thread prompted me to go to McDonalds today and eat a happy meal. It came with a book about stars and planets, so that was nice. As was my cheeseburger.
  20. What Alex K said. Nigel Slater likes McDonalds, so it must be alright.

    shabby chic

Is it still au courant? I seem to recall its being in vogue ten years ago.
  22. Rice cakes are thought of as cake? What godforsaken punitive planet is that???
  23. Ahh, no, never seen it. It's on my to-do list. And my prolonged "bastard", on re-reading, sounds a bit west country. That's not very cool. I need to be cooler. DJKQ, good advice, thanks.
  24. I should show it a magnet, baaaaastaaaard?
  25. I have an old dead laptop that I was thinking of flogging on ebay for parts. I've not used it in about 3 years since it died. Kept crashing, until one day it just wouldn't start at all - the start up page said operating system not found, and then the screen goes black. But, it occurred to me that there may be info on there that I wouldn't want other people to be able to retrieve (not sure what exactly, more that I've heard you should do some kind of wipe before letting someone have your old laptop). What might be the risk?
