  1. Ooh, ooh, ooh - don't forget to head down the hill in the other direction. ED's excellent, but you will also find an excellent brunch (and sunday lunch) at the Crooked Well in Camberwell, where you can indulge in a fine cocktail too. And other eats, all Camberwell: Silk Road (awesome hot Chinese, bench seating, deliciousness on a stick), FM Mangal (great Turkish grill), Angels and Gypsies (tapas, not cheap, but tastiest in the area) And for a few drinks, you cannot beat the Hermit's Cave - one of my favourite pubs ever.
  2. Ted, could you just draw me a map, and maybe post it here?
  3. Haha, don't cringe. I'm going to try to get down to the fete tomorrow, to learn what I can, and yes, I think a thread when the new PNAAP comes out is a great idea. Don't be discouraged from posting in the Lounge - the Drawing Room gets fewer visitors so I'd avoid posting there - and a little off-topication generally helps keep a thread alive and fun. Sometimes it goes too far, but people do tend to self-regulate for the most part. As for whether it can go in the ED Issues section - that's probably a better question to PM to Admin, with a good rationale of why you think it should be. As you've seen on this thread, it's already raised a heckle or two, and I think could derail a discussion about the actual issues. Now then - evening versus night economy. Is that what it sounds like it is? Pubs / restaurants as opposed to late night bars and clubs? Is there more to it than that? I rather suspect there might be...

  5. I'll show you mine if you show me yours.
  6. I would, delicately, suggest that if anyone has something that's really bugging them, that it isn't me. Nor is it dignified. Let lie.
  7. Hi Eileen, Sorry, my post probably sounded more negative than I meant it to. The reason I asked whether you come on here much is because you seemed surprised at the off-topication, which is pretty much guaranteed on any post. I am interested in what's going on, but I'm at work and have can only dip in and out of the forum in short bursts. While your post was indeed only 5 lines long, it linked to a website where seemingly I had to read 14 separate pdf files - that's what I was referring to when I said swathes of information. In the face of that, I elected not to wade through them all to try to find what I was looking for, when in fact, I didn't know what it was I was actually looking for. So I wondered if you could highlight the key points as you seem to be quite close to it, and then I could start to understand what's what, and read through when I had more time. Really I was just making the same point as Ted, although he made it better (when does he not?) By and large, we do have short attention spans, or minimal time.
  8. See, right there - style icon. Pibe, I'm slightly reluctant to say this out of respect for the Piba, but IGNORE THE PIBA. That outfit sounds immense. Do it! Do it now!
  9. Thus speaks a man who's never tackled the 8 floors of Harvey Nicks... It's like my Kilimanjaro

  11. Tu has been appearing in Vogue, you know. Just sayin'.
  12. I sent my friend a card from Muji last week. The brandless thing came in handy - she thought I'd made it myself and called me "very talented". I recommend you all do likewise.
  13. Come now Huguenot - you can't have it both ways. You can't say you don't give a rat's ptooch about fashion, and then say that because YOU haven't heard of a fashion service, no one has. (For the record, I like fashion, I've heard of personal shopping. As have many, many of my friends, some of whom have availed themselves of it. I have also seen lots of coverage of personal shopping in women's fashion and lifestyle media, so actually yeah, great PR. Does it occur to you maybe you're not target audience?) Nor can you accuse others of an extraordinary overreaction, when you post this: "'Deactivating' is such a hissing pissy shitsy foot stamping pathetic wankster that I don't believe even the most vomit poking ingrate would have it done after a little gentle ribbing for asking for shopping slaves to bring clothes to her. " And arrogant, to suggest that you (not in retail) know more about retail than Selfridges, Harvey Nichols, John Lewis, House of Fraser, Debenhams? Well yes, I'd say so. No bees in bonnets, nor wandering wombs, just incredulous at your incredulity.
  14. When I buy a bra, I can get a free fitting if I like. It can take ages (not to wrestle my breasts into said brasierre, you understand, but trying on the many different shapes and styles to see which is best). Some of the shops I frequent have shopper evenings. Here you can get a discount, and a glass of bubbly, and with some, even a canape, or (heaven forfend) a cupcake, maybe even a goody bag. A couple of shops I go to send me presents for my birthday. WHY, GOD, WHY???

I forgot to add "unlike me", but that WAS implied, right? Huguenot, you're not thick, but you're being wilfully obtuse and it's frankly bordering on the preposterous. Many shops provide many services free of charge (gift wrap for instance, or a free makeover, or free delivery). These things all clearly cost money, but also clearly provide a return on investment or they wouldn't do it. I would suggest at the very least: customer loyalty, increased spend and great PR. Refuting that purely on the basis of your own tea-spluttering incredulilty is a little arrogant, no? And why would it piss anyone off that someone else booked an appointment with a personal shopper? Anyone can book an appointment with a personal shopper. Are you mental? Undisputedrosie x
  16. Does no one wear a coat anymore? What is this, Newcastle?
  17. Yep, it's called Debenhams. No one's saying it's hard - but that is not to say it's not tiring or boring, or that you wouldn't like someone to show you some fancy new slacks. But the sarcastic comments from yourself and Huguenot would carry a little more weight if I thought either of you had the remotest clue about fashion.
  18. And ignore shouty David, he's probably got the painters in or something...
  19. Oh dear Eileen, have you actually spent any time at all getting to know the forum? "All those posts" that were on a thread that was never about the issue you raised in the first place. I don't mean to be unkind, but if you want people to discuss an issue, handwringing isn't going to get you anywhere. You need to get them interested. At the moment, your posts are rather long and impenetrable, followed by "discuss". It reads a little like an A level question... People are probably more likely to give an opinion if they don't have to do hours of homework in order to form one. Perhaps you could narrow down the scope a bit, summarise the info in layman's terms (and give the salient points rather than expecting everyone to read through swathes of info), give it some context and also offer your own opinion.
  20. Yes yes yes yes yes! Martha and the Muffins. Huzzah!!!!!!!!!
  21. Perhaps not, but it should. Heating up the outside rather than putting a coat on is indefensible, whichever way you look at it. And I have no truck with smokers' persecution complex either. If your coat's warm enough to get you to the pub, it's also warm enough for sitting / standing outside the pub. Dear Cherry Tree - don't give in to the environmental vandals. If they're really such delicate flowers that their coats aren't enough, give them blankets!

COATS. BLANKETS. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh *head explodes*
  23. I'm sulking because no one got my "far away in time" reference.
  24. Heh, David, calm down and look at the maps!
