The elephant in the room regarding this is how will it effect residents house prices? Most people in Melbourne and other streets will back any scheme if it will raise the value of their house by turning it into a private enclave. The vocal few and a Council that wants to push any scheme through will not consider others in the borough. I will put my tin hat on now.

Free Travel (Freedom Pass) Over 60's Suspended
richard tudor replied to DulwichFox's topic in The Lounge
Probably like me 8~9 is for elderly and disabled customers. Also if you are anywhere you have to be be on a bus before the rush hour or you cannot use the pass. Many pensioners like me only have a freedom pass so in essence I am being locked down unable to go anywhere as using busses in the rush hour period will be expensive. My day suddenly becomes very much shorter or a great deal longer if I have to wait for the rush hour to end. How many pensioners actually take public transport in the rush hours. Also what happens if you have an hospital appt in the afternoon and are delayed for whatever reason. The freedom pass should remain as it is as elderly people do not abuse it. The more Mr Khan thinks the worst it gets as he does not think things through to a sensible conclusion. I do think you have to ask the question "Would you buy a secondhand car from this person with confidence. -
Free Travel (Freedom Pass) Over 60's Suspended

On LBC this morning it was confirmed by the Gov that the Gov did not force Khan to raise the congestion charge nor extend the times. This was told to the Guardian and they reported it to the public. It was left to him to decide what was best. Just who do you believe. -
Free Travel (Freedom Pass) Over 60's Suspended
richard tudor replied to DulwichFox's topic in The Lounge
Freedom Pass is a concessionary travel scheme, which began in 1973, to provide free travel to residents of Greater London, England, who are aged 60 and over (eligibility age increasing by phases to 66 by 2020) or who have a disability. The scheme is funded by local authorities and coordinated by London Councils. Originally the pass was a paper ticket, but since 2004 it has been encoded on to a contactless smartcard compatible with Oyster card readers. Why was there no problems before Khan took over? Perhaps the Gov should have audited the books more closely, Pensioners have never been a problem with cost. Since when did Khan run Southwark Council who issue the freedom pass? -
Thank you for the only response. All I want to know is it only one person allowed in or can two people go together as a couple. Why is it so difficult for some one to ask and reply.

Sainsbury's less busy times?

Thanks for posting info much appreciated -
Thanks Teddyboy. The only person to have responded to help people. Perhaps people are worried that if they tell what the situation is they will not be able to stock up. As most people cannot take a piss unless commanded by twitter I can understand it,

I have just watched a neighbour unload 6 large bags of shopping. Is this a sign that panic shopping at Sainsbury's has raised its head again. Is it worth going?

Sainsbury?s dog kennel hill
richard tudor replied to twinhunters's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Perhaps there are more A/H in ED than anyone realised. -
Which points to the fact it is nearby locals that are walking and not others who are finding it difficult to get there with kids and all the bits. Which was the plan I suspect all the time.
-
So those cyclists in Lycra that go round the park have to go that fast so they also do not fall off?

Sainsbury?s dog kennel hill

You have to remember that Sainsbury's do not keep any stock anymore. i.e out the back, according to a Manager, the total stock is now on top of the shelves. He also said that head office are responsible for monitoring and ordering stock for the store. Explains a lot -
For Southwark yes very successful. Parking now on your street, CPZ on its way.
-
Can anyone remember the time when people used common sense and thought for themselves and not as is usual today to be led by the nose by others. The world is a very strange place these days. Southwark is leading people by the nose to where they want you to be.

It would make a great deal more sense if parking charges are to be introduced, if they have to be, to impose them on weekends. During the week many of the people using the park are elderly walking their dogs and meeting up with similar people, a sort of mobile social club which saves Southwark money. There are not many other users during the week unless the schools are on holiday when it turns into a circus. Which I do not have a problem with. I would never consider going to Dulwich Park on a sunny weekend at my age. How many so called Southwark experts have stayed in the park for a full day for a full week and to see what goes on? It does seem that many of the decisions are made by, in my view, by children who have no concept of real life outside the classroom for another age group. For a good few years now Southwark has been reorganising and making redundant people who had real life experience and how Southwark really works i.e through the old system of Housing Offices and local Housing Officers. All now gone. Large offices only now Tooley Street and Queens Road, North and South Southwark. Now it appears that spreadsheet decisions are the norm plus consultations. From experience very few people using the park car park are commuters during the week. Did anyone ask the parks office for their take on the matter? Again this idea will impact on many who cannot afford to pay. If such decisions regarding parking are made it should consider those who cannot afford the charges. It appears that many on here support charges who do not have a problem paying, have no problems with mobility or public transport. Wait till they find their street jammed with cars.

Perhaps people should reflect that the poster is 73 years of age, able to walk on level flat ground with difficulty. This is applicable to many people. Completing an mini assault course prior to getting to the park seems missed by some of the forums posters. I also suspect that energy levels are not what they once were. It would be interesting to see what their comments would be as they age. Now most do not have a clue. Before answering with get a bus or walk consider what you might be like at that age or lower and also having pay an additional weekly outgoing to walk in your local park on a pension will in some cases will not be possible. Cars are not a luxury for many people but a lifeline to the world. If transport is so good in and around ED why are there so many large and expensive cars parked in most of the roads Why is Sainsbury's car park alway packed if transport is so good and everything can be done using public transport? Also no one has mentioned the huge prams that have to be used taking up a vast amount space on a bus.

From your forum name I have to think you do not live in East Dulwich or its surrounds any more. If you look at what is being proposed every where is being directed to having no cars. This is not right and will effect many people. There was a posting on this from a resident and shows this is not is not an overstatement. You have not commented on this posting. As you comment quite lot on this subject do you live in the area to be able to comment on what is going on?

Thank you for posting this. It least we now know for a fact that Southwark will be doing all it can to rid the Borough of motorcars. No original thoughts to improve things which will benefit the majority of an ageing population in the borough. who cannot walk or cycle. There was a post on this forum that explained one residents problem in getting to and using Dulwich Park, no thought given to him or other residents in the same situation.

Brown bin collection - Council starting to charge?
richard tudor replied to slarti b's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
What happens to the food waste and garden waste that is being put into the LARGE brown bins because they have not requested a sticker or a brown caddie therefore will not have had a small waste caddie delivered. For the moment I believe all garden and food waste will go into the same collection lorry. What brain in Southwark thought this idea up? -
Has anyone received their garden/brown bin sticker?
richard tudor replied to Mrs C's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
If you have never had a large brown bin ever why would you suddenly decide you now need one now? The sticker is only for the LARGE brown garden waste bin/s The only brown bin you are likely to get is a small brown bin caddy to take food waste which will just about hold 2 very small green interior bags. If you have a large garden bin and no sticker it will be taken away. If you live in a 3 flat conversion it would appear that you will need 3 small brown waste caddies in addition to the other bins for the flats. Possible 6 bins in total or more. It does not make any sense. Not thought through at all -
After wondering why buses were still not running down Rye Lane after most of the works have been completed, the P13 in particular, this was the answer from TFL. It appears that it is Southwark who are keeping the road closed. If cars can use the road why not public transport? If the bus routes are clear why are they not opened for public use. Response from TFL. "Dear Mr Tudor Thank you for your email of 17 April about the diversion of the P13. I trust the following information helps. As you know, the gas renewals have been completed past the junction of Blenheim Grove. However, we cannot return buses to the normal line of route at present. The local authority is taking the opportunity to get all upcoming utility works and building development works done on Rye Lane while the closure is in place. This is to avoid closing the road again. Thank you again for contacting us. If there?s anything else we can help you with, please reply to this email. Alternatively, you can call us on 0343 222 1234 and we?ll be happy to help you.
