  1. Driver's doing this really annoy me - to the point where I've honked and glared at them (putting on my scary angry nurse face) + hoping by honking everyone will look round and see them on their phone.... sure this is prob really sad but makes me feel less angry!
  2. Wish I'd chosen Spainish instead of French at GCSE level... would use it a lot and would have hopefully got more than an E, other than that, think fate has brought me to where I am now so can't look back with regrets.
  3. ...double post!
  4. have a really bad jim bowen-esk affliction, where by at work when ambulance crews/parents/colleagues are telling me what the injury/illness is with the child they're with or looking after I seem to say "ok, great" or even worse "super" - think its more that my brain's whirring and working out what needs doing and the "super" comes because I know exactly what I need to do. In a similar vein yesterday I went "wha-hey" when the Dr said a child had got a broken arm as I'd correctly spotted the injury and ordered the x-ray before he'd seen them. As I'd told the mum initally I'd thought it was broken and why, she wasn't too upset to see me "wha-hey-ing"!
  5. might be worth writing to the patient advocacy and liason service (PALS) at Kings to feed back about Twining Ward - only through letting them know how its been can they try and improve.
  6. .. working in Kids A&E at Kings, may I thank you j_t_c ... will let my colleagues - both adult and paeds staff know xx
  7. .... sorry spadetownboy, first sentence was in reply to you - rest of post was just me rambling!!
  8. They do Spadetownboy, and they work their socks off for us - esp in paeds alot of the families coming in can be seen by them. "Inappropriate attendance" to A&E was the basis of my dissertation a few yrs back - will resist the temptation to write it all here!! Often the families coming in ingnorant to the existance of SELDOC and often admit not even having tried to contact their GP first - have even had families who have made an app with the GP but decided they couldn't wait another 2hrs to go there (in a child who's been vomiting since 7am, app made for 4pm - child very alert and jumping round but want to be seen NOW). When I ask "what is the emergency that's brought you here today?" I often get a slightly bemused look back from them. My own take on it is that understandably given the amount of low income families we see the thought of having to take time off work with a poorly child isn't attractive - the impression given is that they feel by attending we can give them an instant solution - often have to explain how while they really don't need admission they will be poorly for a few days and that they won't be able to attend sch/nursery in this time. They also seem to attend so that they can vaildate to their employers - attendance to A&E = genuine reason to be off (?employers won't believe them otherwise). I love my job but at times feel like we're a GP overflow than Emergency Dept (as we're called now).
  9. i'm the only english one of me on Facebook... according to yournotme there's 11 of me - "There are probably more people killed in yoghurt, cream, marshmallow and fluffy thing accidents each year then there are of you." My other half has a cousin 4hrs younger than him who was given the same name as him. Their nan hadn't told either family that they had the same name in mind (suppose she didn't think it likely both would be boys). Anyhoo, this meant that on our first date he explained how he was going to the wedding of the cousin of the same name that w/e & reassured me it wasn't him. (I was going on Dermot O'Leary's radio show that day so he was more worried I'd try and run off with him!)
  10. Don't James - the idea of it gives me cold shivers (def not a good thing!)

  14. I'm doing a night shift on 9th May so hoping I don't bump into any of you during the evening!! x
  15. Seeing this has made me dig out my "National Record of Achievement" to find the following quote from my form teacher, written as I was completing my GCSE's "She is quaintly void of many teenage anxieties and refreshingly naive" think he meant no lad would look at me twice so no chance of me getting pregnant or having any close shaves!!
  16. on south circular today the signs were saying road closures from 7am for the marathon - might be worth going over waterloo bridge and up kingsway - pretty sure those bits shouldn't be affected/won't need to be closed that early x
  17. thank you (?the administrator) for making a link properly! x
  18. Does seem that more of the contestants on this are trying to use it as a springboard into the media.... this was on the holy moly mailout today: http://lindimngaza.com/ (sorry no idea how to do clicky links - is worth cutting and pasting for the toe-curlingness of it!)
