  1. 1)Man up/grow a set. 2)Move the bins. 3)Profit? You'll feel a whole lot better taking action than grumbling about it on here.
  2. Pot holes again? Get a bloody life! What a bunch of miserable whingers you all are.
  3. I recommend the new Butchers (I'm told it's called Sargeant's - awaits signage) on LL opposite the little Sainsbury. Very nice sausages, especially the provencal recipe.
  4. This was a thread about Court Lane in East Dulwich and has now turned into the usual 'Please Mr Councillor, deal with my problems on something unrelated. They are MUCH more important'. James Barber really has his work cut out for him - good luck, James. To quote Sidhue from another thread: Siduhe Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > The Councillors for Rye Lane are Mark Glover and > Gordon Nardell - why not try emailing them - > presumably they will be very engaged in getting > things sorted, as it's their patch and they should > be able to tell you what is planned for the Lane. > (No offence to James by the way, I'm sure he's > very engaged too - but the Lane is a Peckham ward > issue, not ED). > > [email protected]/gordon.nardell@southw > ark.gov.uk
  5. It's an awesome frame. Really, really good. Top of the range, in fact. But I don't think you should buy it just yet.
  6. ???? Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I do miss them....I think Honk's back somewhere Yes. I saw your call-out on another thread. Honk was Lenk was Penk, right?
  7. intexasatthe moment Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > As for priorities for roads to be resurfaced,my > view is the opposite to Horsebox. Is he/she really > cycling up the same road as me ? He/she has just cycled up Court Lane on his/her way home. At least I think it was Court Lane...it was last time I checked. It will most definitely benefit from much needed resurfacing. The first 10-15 metres are ok but beyond that the road is potholed all the way up to jct with Eynella and is a patchwork of varying materials. It's actually worse than I had realised, once I was paying attention to the surface.
  8. Lumley, eh? I can't see her mentioned anywhere without the story of how her fondness for marching powder led to some rather interesting reconstructive surgery springing to mind. Probably false but a good story nonetheless.
  9. A group of us went there in 2005. It's a beautiful island and yes it's *unspoilt*. If your sons are into snorkelling, scuba, walking etc then they'll love it, otherwise there's little else to do. We found a car was necessary to get around the island but I assume that you'll have one to get there anyway. The restaurants were ok, but somewhat disappointing /nothing special so we did most of our own cooking after a day or 2. No real nightlife to talk of apart from walking around town, visiting a few bars and watching the natives strut their stuff and trying to impress the opposite sex. I remember there was a heavy metal night which seemed to be advertised everywhere in town and was the only 'event' as such. Also bear in mind that there's a large US Naval base on the island and as a result lots of Navy Brats around the town on certain nights. It was a little bit like Spring Break but with fewer exposed breasts. Not a reason to stay away but something to consider. (edit - wiki tells me the base officially closed in 2008) Also worth a visit to the neighbouring island of Caprera which has some lovely beaches and a stone museum or something equally dull- you can drive there across a little viaduct. If you've got free accommodation then definitely worth it for relaxation and beaches. I would certainly not rule out going back. (edited for facts, clarity and correction of iphone mistakes)
  10. There hasn't been a decent troll for ages. How sad. :(
  11. I cycle up court lane every evening during winter when the park is closed. It's not the best surface around and gets a huge amount of traffic cutting through from the village to LL. A resurface is very welcome. And Jeremy, spot on.
  12. Nothing wrong with keeping it as The Uplands. Not at all keen on The Villager (is that supposed to be ironic?) or The Actress (sounds awkward and clumsy).
  13. Nope. No irony detected. Sounds like a driver whinging. 0/10. Must try harder.

Wombat Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I'd accept a blanket 20mph limit round here as > long as, at the same time, all the > holier-than-thou cyclists on this thread agree to > carry a registration plate and insurance so that > they too are accountable. Accountable for what, exactly? Cyclists tend not travel in excess of 20mph and are hardly likely to kill somobody in a collision anyway. And who in their right mind would introduce a cycle registration/insurance scheme solely for East Dulwich? Epic Clarkson-esque driver Fail.

Agreed, it's in everybody's interest to know these things, therefore I'm just interested to know why we should 'trust' TJ's claim. Share the knowledge. And the claim that 'plod stop working between 11pm and 6am' etc reads like a Daily Mail headline and needed questioning, frankly.
  18. Are you going to answer my questions, TJ? I'm really interested in your claims.

Guess when the majority (in fact 100%) > of the crimes I am aware of took place? > Bingo. Why should we trust you? What are these key problem issues of which there are only a couple? And do you really believe the police stop working at 11pm?
  20. snowman Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Petrol gone again last night from my scooter!! > > There must be something that can be done - ask the > council to install some CCTV? Really? Southwark council to install CCTV outside your house, focused on your scooter? Not the best use of public funds, is it? I sympathise with you, really I do, the thefts must be annoying and costly but it's not the council's responsibility to monitor your bike. You could always pay for and install your own CCTV.
  21. No but me and a mate were out drinking in the west end, in the late 90's. Lee Hurst was also in the bar, and my mate, being an annoying student approached him and the following exchange took place: Mate (hand outstretched): Hello, Lee Hurst? Lee Hurst: Yes. Hello. They shake hands Mate: I'm a big fan of yours and wonder if I give you a fiver would you buy me a beer so I can tell all my mates that Lee Hurst bought me a beer? LH: No. Have a nice evening. Make what you will of that.
  22. Fierce but just. If a crime isn't reported and subsequently record then officially it didn't happen, the victim doesn't exist. The only way of the police getting a true idea of crime in the area is by people reporting it. No point moaning on here about it if you're not willing/bothering to tell plod.
  23. Fair enough, not a dig at you, particularly, it just feels like the whole motorist vs cyclist thing has been done a million times on here. I'm certainly not against the idea of a road safety/highway code test for cyclists - (does the cycling proficiency test still exist?) - but to make any laws 'enforcable' then cycles would have to be licensed which I don't see happening anytime soon. I know that City of London and Met Police run a scheme whereby any cyclist caught running a red has to attend a 'road safety' class in exchange for their fine being waived. There's a whole other argument here about the infrastructure of our roads not being designed with cyclists in mind and I'd like to see that changed, along with the attitudes towards cycling in this country. Road users need a mutual respect for each other and I think I see this changing ever so slowly, but there's a long way to go. As for dangerous cyclists, yes, there are some and yes they are annoying. I cycle 20 miles a day, to and from work. Some of the behaviour I see really does beggar belief - no lights/hi-viz clothing on a winters night, running reds and cutting through pedestrian crossings, yes it happens and only serves to piss off drivers etc so that we all get tarred with the same brush. But it also REALLY pisses off other cyclists. Likewise there are some maniac drivers out there - like the guy that saw fit to drive 2 inches behind me today on Brixton Water Lane, tooting his horn for me to move out of his way, or the Bus driver that forced me and another cyclist off the road in Woolwich, only to find out that the other cyclist was an off duty cop (goodbye driving license and career!). But I know that not all drivers are arseholes and many of them probably have a bike at home as well. If I reported or complained about every idiot on the road, I'd be forever moaning about it, and life really is too short for that. /Rant over.
  24. Gary, you're listing a lot of complaints here about your experience of road use. You started off complaining about potholes and have now moved on to cyclists. Everyone seems to be at fault except you. Maybe it's time to get back on that bus? (?2 for a single or ?1.10 on Oyster pre-pay).
