  1. I too have heard human tastes like pork, not beef. It's known as 'long pig' in some cultures but 'hairless goat' in others, so a slight contradiction, perhaps?

If it tastes good and is reared well then why not?
  3. Katgod, yes, we're on Crystal Palace Road.
  4. Depending on how long you've got there, I recommend hiring a car and driving down to the keys for a few days/nights. Also try and check out a game of Jai alai 'the fastest game on earth' when you're there. If you're interested in american football, then go and see the Dolphins (although they're having a terrible season so far, currently 0-6). South Beach itself is very plastic and artificial but has some lovely art-deco buildings and a certain amount of charm, some great little bars, coffeeshops and some decent restaurants. When are you going?
  5. Brown bin was emptied today but recyclable waste not taken, same for next door neighbours. As our bin is shared between the 3 flats in the building, it is now completely full. Have notified Southwark online.

Oh James, you silly veggie, have a little dignity, won't you? Or failing that, have a little steak or some prosciutto.
  7. That was quite a flounce, Ted.
  8. The 'V' word. That's a new one for me. E-dealer, can you link to anything that supports or explains this historical and bizarre persecution of vegetarians? I'm genuinely interested in learning more.
  9. Take away in this case but I believe it's one price, as on the bottle - I'll check my receipt. Not that bad for a well-made, tasty, local beer in a bar/cafe but for drinking at home I thought it was a bit steep.
  10. Their wines are pretty good, tried both the red and the white (not from a tumbler). I was eager to try the redchurch brewery beers - and I did and they were very tasty - but found them very expensive at ?2.85 for 330ml bottles. Is this the price of a decent microbrewery not far from home, or was I ripped off?
  11. Not aimed at you, SJ. The word has been used on this thread a couple of times, I believe. So, can we file 'wine in a tumbler' alongside 'the colour of my recycling bin is all wrong' in the 'not worth getting upset about' drawer?
  12. Otta, there was a fair bit of guesswork involved in my 11 too... Will we be deported?
  13. I've visited France countless times and continue to go back to see family & friends at least 3 times a year. I can't remember a single occasion where I've drunk wine from a tumbler. It doesn't strike me as at all authentic but equally doesn't bother me enough that I wouldn't return to The Actress. I do find it odd though, that anyone who states they prefer drinking from a wine glass is labelled as 'pretentious'.
  14. I scored 11! Pathetic. But a good way to keep Johnny Foreigner from our shores, jobs and women.
  15. Update: Have just returned home to find brown caddything empty. Assuming the foxes or some sort of hungry urchin didn't have at it, I do believe it's been taken by the council. Thanking you, council. Can you get it right next week, please?

Nope. Plough end. Still no response from council website...
  18. Sue, my neighbour's brown bin was also left full. We are on Crystal Palace Road. I've reported to the council, not sure if neighbour has.

Our food & garden waste was also left in the medium brown bin/caddy although they did empty the large blue bin. I thought I'd got the days wrong but have just checked and today was a brown and blue day. I await a response from Southwark.
  20. I second what SJ says and would add (good quality) sushi & Japanese to the list.
  21. I think tomorrow is her last full day. She mentioned leaving at midday on Thursday.
  22. Val's stores. Next to Red Apple newsagents, up at Teh Plough.
  23. Not sure if this is old news as I've been away for 3 weeks but Nisha informed me last night that she is having to leave her business and ED/London as it is no longer viable since Sainsbury's opened. The store will be taken over by some Sri Lankan friends of hers on Thursday. Very sad news as she was adamant she wouldn't be closing down or leaving the area.
  24. I'm about to fly to Dublin and have a couple of hours before meeting friends. Can anyone recommend a good breakfast spot around Temple Bar? Much obliged.
  25. Gang activity.
