  1. I would avoid Nespresso and go for a 'real' espresso machine. Nespresso limits you to pre-packed coffee capsules so you can't try out interesting roasts and blends as you'd like, and you can forget about buying and grinding your own beans, if that's your thing. It also creates a disproportionate amount of waste because of those ridiculous little capsules, and works out to be very expensive per cup. We've got a Magimix 'L'expresso' which cost about 150 euros (bought in France, which explains the 'x' and is still making a great cup after nearly 4 years of daily use, at least 4 cups per day.
  2. @ mynamehere: No, it wasn't at all clear what happened, based on the OP: My son managed to swerve to avoid direct impact and car fortunately narrowly missed his leg. This makes it sound to me and, presumably, to Jah Lush that there was no collision. Edited once for clarity.

If there was no actual collision and no casualties then the police won't be interested as there's no crime as such to investigate.

Which incidentally, IS NOT going out of business, despite unfounded mutterings to the contrary on here. I was in there tonight - both Nisha & husband were very surprised to hear these rumours and asked me to say that they have no plans to close down anytime soon. (Apologies for the creative editing, Dorothy.)
  5. Familyguy, it's only the idiots who can't read parking restriction signs that would need to worry about getting fined.

  7. As you've been using it since it got wet it's probably only a matter of time before it fails completely. What you SHOULD have done was to leave it off, battery removed until it was completely dried out. It's worth taking it to a specialist shop who will open it up completely and give all the circuits etc a proper dry and clean.
  8. In theory I'd like the additional choice of a Waitrose but if it means a chance that any independent stores could go out of business and leads to LL becoming 'just another high street' then against. As many people have said already, the choice of shops is second to none and is part of what makes the area a nice place to live.

What was your sample size for this piece of quality research?

HNY Yeah, and potentially damaging the train, causing it to be taken out of service for a costly repair, leading to less rolling stock on the line, further delays AND a larger than usual fare increase. There's no such thing as 'Road Tax'. As a driver of 20 years, I'm surprised you didn't know that already. Nice rant though.
  13. This has to be a contender for most sinister, cringe-inducing thread of the year, no?
  14. Yes, I've tried them. I wouldn't recommend any of them. Made me feel too hot and a little bit unhappy (in my special place) :-$ :(
  15. Why aren't you people riding your bikes(?)
  16. Wednesday was the only day I didn't cycle in. Found that sticking to the -relatively empty - main roads was manageable, at a reduced speed. E2A: No snow tyres, LM, just my normal skinny road wheels. (Do snow chains really exist for bikes?)
  17. What is this 'Google' that you speak of? Is it available to everybody? I've been using the TFL website for London Transport information. Silly me!
  18. Brockwell Lido. I'm sure they've done weddings there before.
  19. Definitely my rice cooker.
  20. I've two pairs of Decathlon fingerless gloves that get washed every 2 weeks or so in the summer. They've lasted me 4 years so far and are worn every day. ?5 a pair so quite the bargain. In winter I wear a pair of Altura 'under gloves' which I've had for 2 years - washed every 3-4 weeks and still going strong, apart from the moth-hole on the right thumb, which currently facilitates iphone texting when I'm jumping red lights or cycling no-handed along the pavements around ED.
  21. I flew to Rio via Houston with Continental back in 2003. I think all Continental flights route via Houston which can add hours onto your journey, partly due to inefficient transit processes. I don't recall it being one of the best airports to wait around in either. As for the flight, the plane was quite empty so we had plenty of space to stretch out, but I wouldn't recommend them particularly. If we hadn't had the additional space it would've been quite uncomfortable. Also remember we had to pay for our in-flight drinks and the stewardess serving us decided to impose a slightly bizarre 2 drink limit, although it was done with a lot of Southern charm. I've not flown American but a friend of mine is joining me in NY this week and flying with AA. I'll be happy to post up his experience, if you wish.
  22. thebestnameshavegone Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > (with 2 brakes, aren't those people who take a brake off for the > fixed 'look' a bit odd?) Haha! I've not noticed this, yet. How strange. Agree that low maintenance is a massive benefit - part of the reason I switched from my last bike - a huge mountain bike, which was great for trips to New Forest and elsewhere, but completely unsuited to a commute and expensive to maintain. @Mlteenie - I'm riding 42/16 which came as standard on the bike. Not sure I'll change this for a while unless you care to convince me otherwise?
  23. thebestnameshavegone Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- fixed are MUCH better for a commute in > London Why is this? I definitely prefer riding single speed in London as there's very few places where gears are needed but what are the benefits of riding fixed in town?

And Roberts, of course! I did some time in Croydon as a youth. Back on/off topic: Anyone ever play(ed) bike-polo? (I reckon this thread is lounge-bound)
