What is wrong with this forum? (non ED issues being moved to Lounge)
Mark replied to Josh's topic in The Lounge
I think that's an option for another section GSJ57, but it could be a good idea but Camberwell and Nunhead both have their own forums and we shouldn't take away from them. So the purpose of the new section/room is for people to discuss general, non East Dulwich specific, issues and not a place for games and silliness. Some will call it boring and so they can stay away, some will try to inject their stupid opinion and then cry foul when they get told off but they should be used to that. Trouble makers will simply be banned from the section at the Chairman's discretion. Name ideas so far: Drawing room Debating room Back Bar Non-East Dulwich issues Discussion Debate All sensible ideas warmly accepted -

When the forum started "gossip" was more apt as it was smaller and more intimate with more over the garden fence type chat. -

It is more work to split it but once split it should hopefully be better and the turnover of the pages would be slower as currently they move too fast. I forgot to say there would also be a Lost and Found cats section too. Perhaps not, I guess they would go in the wanted section. -

Probably just appointed, someone has already expressed an interest (in fact they suggested the serious room a while back when the Lounge became predominantly silly for a period). Don't worry, they're good and fair. -

Time for my tuppence: A Debating Room has been discussed before and I'm thinking it might be time to add it, as well as splitting and creating the forum to be: ED issues / gossip Wanted Offered Recommendations/businesses, Family Room Discussion, Family Room Classifieds What's on The Lounge (Non-ED casual chat and games) The Debating Chamber (Non-ED serious discussion) About the forum A couple of questions: Would the news about the recent fire would go in the debating chamber? Any other suggestions other than the debating chamber? The debating chamber would be heavily moderated, people who frequently take discussions off topic would be barred and no whinging. The debating chamber would be run by one person who had the final say, a chairperson. Agreed? -
Me and Mrs Mark are thinking of heading to Mexico in October, probably flying to Cancun and heading off down the coast for a couple of weeks for some sightseeing, diving and some beach action. So far we've only been told to avoid the American high school holiday period and I've a Lonely Planet book in the post but was wondering if anyone's got any interesting recommendations they'd like to share. Thanks in advance

Shocking Sight (boys stabbing a wheelie bin) (Lounged)

Personally, I don't think that charging people with carrying knives and criminal damage is a pointless case. -

I'm guessing that it wasn't their wheelie bin either, probably a council one, so that would be criminal damage. -

Hi Polly, I believe it's because Josh says things like: "This is truly a very weak forum, and East Dulwich deserves better." and "small mindedness" and is generally insulting. It's like if you're at a house party and someone walks in shouting "this is sh*t", "why aren't you playing R'n B music", "the host does not know how to have a party". Everyone in there having a good time quite rightly tells him to sod off apart from ???? who gives him a doughnut, Chinese burn and then a wedgie. Insulting criticism isn't particularly nice and people react to it. oh, in this case Josh has been on the forum since October last year and has posted 50 times so he can't really be classes as a newcomer but I know what you mean, new posters being too scared to post or feeling unwelcomed is one of my bugbears but that's another issue. Yes, glasses, jewellery, kids toys and clothes and a watch from recollection but you're right pk (but no one's ever shot you down for saying so), the best thing is to hand them in somewhere and then announce on here that they've been handed in.

My name's Mark and I'm an iPhone user too. My tip - when typing text and need a comma, press and hold down the number button [.?123] and slide your finger to the comma and lift it off.

Great game (shame about the TV coverage continually showing slow motions of the crowd being emotive rather than replays of the tennis). I think Murray's going to get himself to the final.

Great day yesterday, two winners (picked by Mrs Mark) another 2nd on an each way and a 1st and 2nd in our group's sweepstake. ?90 up at the end of the day and a top day out, I could even get used to wearing a top hat.

There won't be a crime section to the forum but I understand why there's talk about having one. I think reporting real incidents like scammers in the area is worthwhile but asking "why were there some police on my road" is just curiosity and not necessary, unless it was a major incident. I've noticed similar topics of posts appear in waves i.e. someone sees the first post about police, they see the police activity outside and then think "I'll ask on the forum what that was about" and back to square one. A way of dealing with these is to tuck them away on the forum, deleting threads is not really an option (unless they're really pointless), perhaps Admin should just move those to the Lounge where they will fade away. I know they can get tedious but people sharing their own experience of crime in the area is useful to a lot of other people. The worst thing is if people report it on the forum rather than to the police.

Did you break any of the rules? If you did I expect Admin removed it, I gather s/he's quite busy and hasn't got time to correct everyone's mistakes or tell them off.

I see Tessa Jowell's mentioned it in her newsletter: "4. Finally, can I ask you to support a fantastic local group - the Ebony Horse Club - who are up for a well deserved award - but who need your vote to win. Please take a couple of seconds to follow this link: http://www.beyondsport.org/the-awards/london-legacy/shortlist.php and vote for the Ebony Horse Club under the 'London Legacy Award' section2"
