The new chicane at Goose Green roundabout
Mark replied to macroban's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip

This thread is about suppression of your self expression by way of a generic gagging order on society, not "suppression of the truth" in the way mentioned by TLS. Changing the way crime data is collected and delivered is not a gagging order, ok it's a handy way of slipping casual, suburban racism into a discussion but it's not a gagging order. Personally I think a "gagging order on society" is very much dependant on the individual's perception and/or the society in question. I don't hear a hushing sound when over population is mentioned in discussion, I think we're free to discuss anything but when it comes to stating beliefs that are unacceptable to the society in question there's a difference. I'm sure you can discuss homosexuality in a fundamentally Muslim society as long as you didn't mention you were gay, I guess that's could be called a society gagging order. Fortunately, I believe, we live in a society where things are generally the right way around i.e your sexuality is accepted, things can be discussed openly, and nonchalantly suggesting that ethnicity is key factor to criminal behaviour is looked down upon.

Photo taken last year whilst travelling through France. Have a look at this gentleman's attire, is this what you have in mind? Tweed cap, smart driving jacket, cravat, ginger moustache, pipe, brogues and a filly. I also noted the Queen in the back window of the car.

But isn't that the idea of it, the tedious debate happens elsewhere and you don't have to go in there. The Lounge is now free of things that are too worthy and dull, you should be happy about that.

As this is a discussion about clowns in the Drawing Room I would have hoped that people would respect that and stayed on topic, going off topic is something we'd like deter on discussions in the Drawing Room. I would suggest that if don't agree with the Chair's decision, PM the Chair rather than spoil other people's discussions This topic's in The Drawing Room so the (removed) jokey comments about "they are the scourge of SE22 and will soon be in the Lounge", "parp parp" and "child abduction" made it Lounge worthy (although confusingly the actual topic itself makes it open to humour). Anyway this new room's a learning process and Red devil's last line summed it up nicely, "...I'm sure over time it will settle down and find it's raison d'etre..." ------------------- Clowns: I think it's the fact you can see they're not smiling under the painted on smile that alludes to their insincerity and potential hidden depths of nastiness.

OK so he hacked into 97 US government computers shortly after the 11/9 attacks. He keeps going back to British courts/House of Lords with different appeals and now they've failed his mum's appealing to the Obama. Personally I'd rather Mr President wasn't asked to step in on this case because it has been through so much of our legal system, any judgement he makes could set a precedent for other cases. Is his recently diagnosed Asperger's Syndrome real or was it just conveniently used (unsuccessfully) as a get out of jail card after previous appeals failed? I'm erring on the Muppet side Or am I being harsh?

The Highway Code also says to drivers that at road junctions, "you should watch out for pedestrians crossing a road into which you are turning. If they have started to cross they have priority, so give way." http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/TravelAndTransport/Highwaycode/DG_070332 So next time you're almost run over outside Oliver Boner, at least you know that legally they're in the wrong as well as being a twonk.

I know the zebra crossing outside Somerfields idea was scrapped, was any alternative offered?

The examples we were shown were police serviced vehicles with Class 1 police drivers and they took about 30 feet to stop at 30MPH plus thinking time, so about 45feet. Roughly speaking, if someone walks out from behind a 33ft long bus, at 30MPH you're going to hit them, but it'll be at 6MPH. At 40 MPH you're going to hit them at 18MPH which will hurt them a lot more. And that's with a well looked after car. (Blimey, do I sound like I've been brainwashed?)

I don't know if he was a biker but he looked like a silver haired Nick Griffin with a beer belly. Anyway without taking this too much off topic it was an interesting course and it does explain further the difference in stopping distances between driving at 30, 32, 35 and 40 which was an eye opener. He did also say that if there's enough call from local residents the police may set up random speed checks from the back of an incognito van to periodically catch speeders in an area.

Having done a speed awareness course this morning I discovered that cameras are usually only put up if there's 3 serious accidents within a 3 year period. There are about 600 cameras around London and you can find out the details of each one here http://lscp.org.uk. It tells you why cameras are there and it's not to make money (although it was before 2002), it's a reactive response to accident blackspots. For example the speed camera that's on Peckham Rye (near the new school) is there because in the 36 months before it appeared: Fatal collisions : 1 Number of Fatal collisions at this site. Serious collisions : 4 Number of Serious collisions at this site. Slight collisions : 17 Number of Slight collisions at this site. KSI : 5 Killed or seriously injured http://lscp.org.uk/?cameras&cameraID=119 So as Barry road seems to having a fair few accidents I would second Ianr's comment about contacting the local councillors and/or police liaison and chivvying them along if you want a camera on that road. beaver14uk Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > You had best ask Nigel that question next time you see him if indeed you have the front rather than hiding behind a keyboard. I'm not hiding behind a keyboard, I'm just using it to type. You know and speak to "Nigel" so I thought you could ask him a question, that was all. Obviously not. I was also praising the work the rest of you do (see the bit that says "hard work and good service"). I was not asking for a comparison with fare evaders or a rude answer, just asking how you felt about this "Nigel" spoiling your good reputation.

beaver14uk, I asked Defender this but received no reply, so could you ask please ask "Nigel"... Does he realise that he comes across as unfriendly and causes his passengers/customers to become angry and annoyed and therefore there is resentment towards him? And to youbeaver14uk, there are quite a few people saying that this guy has issues dealing with the public and he is obviously a "bad egg" in the bus driver world compared to other drivers. How you feel about this guy spoiling the reputation of the hard work and good service that the rest of you put in?

I'm just shocked that there are photos of children on the BBC website for everyone to see. And they're looking straight at the camera so it must have been at hip height. Disgusting. And the Mr Tescos and Mr Budgens they talk about, obviously wrong 'uns who wear nothing but carrier bags.

Hang on, this is about Nigel, not thebeard

Do you want it to dry as well? A new one's definitely a good option if it's got a good warranty and will probably last longer than a used one. It's worth have a check of http://www.which.co.uk/reviews/washing-machines/product-finder/ if you're going to spend ?250 Having said that I bought one for ?50 from someone on this forum and it's fine.

Wait 'til you get on a bus and it's Nigel driving Lenk, then you'll understand. People don't interact with him because they want to, it's because he insists (in an unpleasant manner) that they do. When I was on a bus with him I found it quite amusing, just thinking "no way, he actually does exactly do what everyone says he does". He's a legend in his own cab.
