  2. Admin and I just arm wrestled to see who will flick the switch to turn the forum off for the break, she won. I'm going to bow out now, have a great couple of weeks everyone, over to you Admin for the last 5 minutes.
  3. "SMUG BUGABOO PUSHING BASTARDS", Mike is that really what you're coming up with now? That's the 4th forum you've gone to to stir up a mob against this forum, why don't you just let it lie? Go and do something useful with yourself.
  4. And it's much appreciated, thanks
  5. Sorry to be pedantic but it's not the East Dulwich Forum on Facebook, it's forum users. Please can you change the name.
  6. Just to let you know that the forum's closing tomorrow at midnight, not tonight.
  7. http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00n9n08/BBC_News_at_Six_13_10_2009/ Scroll forward to 11 minutes and 20 seconds

  9. Damn, I missed it, do they show the news on iPlayer? I can't seem to find it?
  10. Thanks for the kind words from everyone and I must reiterate that the others in the team i.e. Admin, The Chair and the moderators are having a well deserved break too. And to answer your question Karter, the PM system will be down too I'm afraid.
  11. There is subtle advertising on the forum but that may be stepped up a bit in the future.
  12. Top tip for the day: If you want the assistance from a group of people who have the power to help you, you're better off not insulting them first. I don't believe the community police (who read this forum) will think "ah yes, first mate called us toy police-people, we must now make this a top priority".
  13. Where was this?
  14. Penguin68 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- >Is there no way the forum can be 'locked up' Yes but we won't, there could be something on here amid the "dross" that opens up a can of worms when we're all having a break. We really don't want that. It'll be back up on the 2nd November.
  15. A friendly neighbour is keeping an eye on the other forums, if they look in on them one day and there's something awry they have the ability to flick a switch and turn them off.
  16. umm, if East Dulwich Forum users take over those other forums they may have to be closed until after the break. I don't know how to say it another way, oh hang on, якщо Східний Dulwich форум користувачів взяти на себе ці інші форуми вони можуть бути закриті до закінчення свята. Edit: Sorry I was being facetious, basically there will no one keeping an eye on those forums and rather than let them be taken over by EDF people with no admin team in charge the sites will be taken down for whilst we're on holiday. [edited once]
  17. > Why does the forum have to close down? Explained above > Surely it's hosted by a (bigger) third party organisation? Yes, but they don't run it > Can't you delegate to others to keep it going? I could but we're all having a break > What do your advertisers think of the shut down? They don't mind because they get the time added on to their agreement. > It seems a bit amateurish that someone goes on holiday and the show can't go on. That comes across as a rather pompous statement. Do you say that to your local shops when they close down for a holiday? If this forum were a "professional" operation then maybe it would stay open, but it's not.
  18. Yes, I was meant to put a message at the top of the screen yesterday but I forgot, I'll try and do it today.
  19. Domitianus Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Will we see an according reduction in Council Tax > bills as we would be doing the Council's job for > it? Sounds rather like the little girls saying "My dad says it gives people jobs" in the anti-litter adverts from the 70's/80's. Do you throw litter in the street because someone in the council has a job to clear it up? Of course you don't.

  21. I think it would be great if the businesses that supply the rubbish i.e. the take aways, late night shops etc and those that supply the drunks i.e. the bars, would spend 5 minutes every now and then in the evening cleaning up the rubbish left by their customers. Just send someone up and down the road to have a bit of a tidy up, it would be great to show they had pride in the area and contribute to keeping it clean.
  22. "Posted by: kanga 06 February, 2008 19:35 Does anyone know what was happening with the 4+ police cars parked across Goodrich Rd near the junction with Frien Rd? Sirens ablaze etc..." I wonder what help Kanga provided on that night?
  23. Explanations are not a solution. Something that comes across as a bit annoying about the coalitions website, it's seems to want to stir things up and want people to hate western governments rather than actually want to do something constructive.
  24. I don't know if the Stop The War Coalition's a waste of time but its website comes across in a very Millie Tant style. It could have more effect on the British public if it appealed to them, rather than just appealing to people who want to protest. And personally I don't like headlines like "The world says: troops home from Afghanistan now" - which I know is not true because I haven't been asked. And they don't give many solutions as an organisation, it's all "that's bad", "that's bad" and "that's bad too". Do they have any viable solutions? Stop the War... and then what?
