phew: "If you use the electronic vehicle licensing service or tax by post at the end of the month, there?s now an exemption for not displaying a tax disc. This exemption covers the first five working days of the month to allow time for the new disc to arrive in the post. While you are still waiting for your tax disc you will need to display your current tax disc. The exemption only applies if applications are made before the current tax disc or SORN expires." http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/OwningAVehicle/HowToTaxYourVehicle/DG_10021514

I have a car parked up on the road in East Dulwich at the moment without a tax disc, it was SORN but was brought out of retirement (and a garage) on Wednesday. I applied online for the disc on Tuesday which is now in the post, hence my tax disc says "14 April 2010 - tax in the post". As far as I'm aware that is correct, I have the online application reference number to back this up too. I'm now hoping this isn't an offence and am frantically checking t'internet to find out. Yep, spot on. Lots of people only read the the last few posts of discussion (as I have just done) and including a relevant quotation can help make my point more concise and readable for others, or as HAL said earlier "to provide context without forcing readers to scroll up".

Thanks Barry, I think it maybe the "more options" bit I didn't notice. And thanks Bic Basher, I'll remember that for next time but I was in a bit of a rush the other day and I couldn't face buses and traffic.

Hi Barry, lovin' your work. The other day I tried to buy a return ticket from East Dulwich to Gatwick Airport, via London Bridge and coming back a few days later. The office was shut so I had to use the machine and found it's impossible to buy a ticket to Gatwich Airport that's via London and not a day return. We had to use our pre-pay Oysters to London Bridge, swipe out then buy a return from LB to Gatwick, which was inconvenient and annoying as we missed the next train. Could you let me know if there's a technique for getting such a ticket from the ED ticket machine. Thanks Mark

Fortunately it's only a couple of people who take the mickey and so generally it works really well, and I agree about the 'East Dulwich Currency' LM, someone offered me a computer monitor for free recently and I thought it only natural to give them a nice bottle of wine as a thank you.

I've just had a look, check out gemma ballard, how many free TV's does one person want?
-
I agree with you Jeremy, it bugs me when people are offering things for free (especially when it's "free to a good home") and the same people snap them up, do they really need another fridge?. There's a couple, Louise and Gary, who seem to always abuse people's goodwill on the forum and they've been banned about 6 times, last time was someone complaining that their sideboard given away "to a good home" was being sold on the forum 3 weeks later. I don't like people who pretend to want something so they can make a few quid, and in doing so take away from those who genuinely need or want something, it's not fair. You're right, it takes away from the Spirit of the Forum ® , if you have your suspicions or know it's being done please report it to Admin and s/he will deal with it. [edited once] for spelling

Hi Eileen, The Ordnance Survey Election maps seem to show the boundaries quite clearly, here they are showing the boundaries around Goose Green (as an example). You can also see the settings I've used on the left to achieve this, I hope it helps.

New Parking Restrictions East Dulwich Road
Mark replied to suzyq's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
There are two East Dulwich Roads, one has the swimming baths, a bus lane, odd numbered houses and at one end a roundabout at the junction with Lordship Lane. The other one, with even numbers, runs down the other side of Goose Green and has cars parked all the way down and a house of the lord at one end. -

Just a reminder that this ends tomorrow, get in there quick and have your say about Goose Green. Even if you like it just the way it is, please tell them... Southwark Council - parks Questionnaire

This 4* holiday barn near Bath is in a lovely countryside location http://www.holidaybarn.co.uk/, I know it well and can tell you it is tranquil and a great base for local walks around the West country.

Missing Hospital on East Dulwich Grove.
Mark replied to m7post's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Please could you give us a link to a reference where someone promised a hospital in return for the wanton demolition of half of the old one. (Added - with a timescale.) I agree it's a complete waste of space at the moment and it would be good to see it used for something. How about an outdoor cinema this summer whilst we're waiting for something permanent to happen? New Parking Restrictions East Dulwich Road
Mark replied to suzyq's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Interesting points about fire engines. I'd be well annoyed if I woke up to find double yellow lines outside my house and 40% less parking than there was the night before, however you knew about this in January when you spotted that sheets of paper had been attached to the lampposts in East Dulwich Road telling you that Southwark Council are changing the parking allocations. It's not really the same is it? Did you raise your objections to the council back then and if so why were your objections dismissed? I'm just getting the impression that we're not hearing the full story here. -

Why not campaign for speed humps or something to slow the vrooming cars down? At least the fire brigade can now get to your flat to put a fire out, they couldn't before. -
New Parking Restrictions East Dulwich Road

I know they were restricting the parking to allow access for emergency vehicles which you weren't happy about (see your previous post New Parking Restrictions East Dulwich Road), but what exactly is the mess they've made? What is the problem that the Councillors have agreed with you about? Have you really written to our MP because you're unhappy that now you cannot park outside your flat? -

Add the 20 minutes drinking up time and 10 minutes to get out that makes midnight. Or am I wrong? What about "Louisa's" or "The Snorky"

former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?
Mark replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
KalamityKel Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Has no one > thought to consider why everyone (residents and > shop owners alike) is/are so against it? But the councillor said the response from the survey of residents was that a "Huge majority wanted a crossing outside Somerfield". It seems to be a case that residents want it but the traders don't, and it's not easy coming up with a compromise to appease both sides. Perhaps the council could commission a Living Streets Sustainable Shopping Survey (as mentioned in the report) to help move the debate on? -
It's better to leave the evidence gathering to the police and yes there has been a specific request.

I know that the police are investigating the Cyrena road incident at the moment and, as with any ongoing police investigation, we do not want to hamper it by comments and theories appearing on the forum

You have to cross a bridge to get there, and underneath the bridge is a troll who eats people. ok, maybe not but it's not really a dodgy area, it just benefits from not being in the SE22 postcode and is technically classed as Peckham. It could be worse, it could be Cl**ham.

Nice one Rhinestone Cowboy, I'm not really a betting man but put ?5 to win on Albertas Run at 16/1 (and ?5 on petit Robin) after seeing your post.
