After the council painted the blue on the bottom half of the mural, that was it for the bottom half of the mural. It was a mistake by the council and they have apologised and organised the original artist to repaint the bottom half. I believe it is now going to be painted with a special layered varnish so a layer can be removed if it gets graffiti on it.

ianr, I was just trying to help allay fears but please do PM me and let me know if anything else needs to be addressed.

???? Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > ....silly me for finding it an outrage Paying for a cleaner, outrageous! Putting a plumber's invoice in twice, preposterous! That means they're probably paying to have little boys imported from 'nam as well the bastards. Let's stop them from trying to sort out out country and have them spend days going through their receipts and if there's one sly Big Mac on there that an MP's paid for with tax payers money, hang Mr Brown because he should have known about it.

Read my post on the last page where I asked the police about the shooting and the perceived increase in crime in East Dulwich. Highlights include: "...This attack was a targeted and isolated incident and two people have since been charged and await court....we are working with the council to provide more panic alarms and other counter measures...We are also working with the council to look at the feasibility of improving lighting in many of the roads in East Dulwich" Nothing there about knee jerk reactions.

I'm really bored of this throw shit at the politicians until something sticks palaver. ?6,000 for a cleaner, so what? The fact it was paid through his brother is a lame tabloid headline. All this of course is goaded on by David Cameron, every time he's on the news/given a PR opportunity he's not talking about policies and doing the right thing, he's throwing playground insults at the opposition and taunting Gordon Brown, pathetic. If Cameron was replaced with someone more focused on getting things done (Lumley?) I would seriously consider voting Tory. Can we get back to politicians doing what they should be doing and judging them on their actions and results and not their lack of accounting skills? I'm not saying it's not important for them to be accountable but the media and Cameron seem to be blowing everything out of proportion at the moment and it's getting on my tits. Perhaps I should just turn Radio 4 off for a while. [Edit] I am joking about Lumley, she just seems to be the tabloid's figurehead of choice at the moment.

I asked the Safer Neighbourhood Team this morning what they were doing in light of the "perceived" rise in local crime by some people, this is what they had to say: "Thank you for your message, we have tried our best to raise awareness through many different mediums but it is hard to reach everyone. The shooting people are worrying about I assume is the one that took place in Barry Road. I met with many residents after that incident and spoke on the phone with many more. This attack was a targeted and isolated incident and two people have since been charged and await court. Burglaries of residential properties in East Dulwich have fallen by half in the last 9-10 months and we hope that with the introduction of property marking to the business properties we will be able to start dramatically tackling this as well. Reported robberies have shown a slight increase in the last month we are working with the council to provide more panic alarms and other counter measures such as clipping bells to bags. The rate of robbery in East Dulwich is a lot lower than the surrounding area and all I can say to people is that if they are a victim please report it so that we can channel our resources effectively. We are also working with the council to look at the feasibility of improving lighting in many of the roads in East Dulwich and ensuring trees are properly pruned to increase long distance visibility in areas such as Barry Road and Friern Road. I read this http://www.peckhamvision.org/brg/srug/save-our-south-london-line-campaign and it told me nothing and then it asks me to sign a petition and email lots of people with my views. This tells me more http://www.londontravelwatch.org.uk/news.php?id=643 but says "Particular losers as a result of the proposed changes will be those travelling to Victoria from ... East Dulwich" and as far as I'm aware trains don't go to Victoria from East Dulwich. Or was this the service that was proposed but has now been scrapped in a secretive deal?

Whilst most middle men earn their money by bringing the product to market, touts go to the market buy up the product so that others cannot buy them, then resell them to those people who cannot buy them. The fact that the product is for entertainment makes it slightly more emotive. Is going to the chemist, buying up all the Tamiflu (so others can't buy it) then reselling it for a profit a bad thing? One could argue it provides an extra value to the person prepared to pay for it, it's uniqueness is a selling point and everyone can queue for them no matter what they earn. Alternatively you could just let people buy it directly from the chemist and let the obstructional profiteering play no part and everyone's happier. Yes I know health and entertainment differ but I don't agree that selling anything for a profit is not necessarily a "bad thing". It has a lot to do with the way it is done and people's perceptions of how it is done.

I think you'll find that most people sell them at face value, there's only one person selling Hamlet tickets at a profit at the moment.

Some photos of the current ongoing work to the mural can be see on the Friends of Goose Green website

I feel a "Skeleton-gate" scandal about to hit the local press (or "Sun and Doves-gate" if Mark slips the journalist a few quid)

It's not even a bloody valley, valleys have slopes on the sides, we have a couple of hills nearby and that doesn't make a valley.

Congratulations Keef and Mrs Keef, and welcome baby Keefette.

Hi Barry Thanks for doing this. When you mention Oyster do you mean Pre-pay? I'd love to be able to use my pre-pay at East Dulwich station. Thanks Mark

I think motorbikes in bus lanes are a great idea and I would like to think that it brings two wheeled users closer together (but not to a point of impact). The nobs who ride both motorbikes and cycles will be nobs whatever the regulations, driving a wedge between the the responsible two wheeled users does no good in my opinion.

hmmm, good point but then traffic lights are paid for by them with tax money and who are they to tell them when to stop/start. Hopefully people understand that there has to be rules to keep the place tidy and Admin just enforces them.

I think that "how much 'control' would the council want" was the first thing that crossed my mind, but the application would stipulate that the forum could be run as it has been i.e. independently since it started. That's what Admin and the team would want but most importantly it's what the users would want. The application would be as transparent as possible and if there were any areas of uncertainty the forum users would be asked for their opinions.

I'll answer this one Admin. Thanks for that ed_pete, you're right, it is worth giving it a go and any help towards the running costs of the forum is appreciated. Thanks again.

Keef Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > to be fair to Lenk, I don't think s/he ever said a description would be useless. Lenk Wrote: > Clothing descriptions are useless... > Skin colour description is useless ... Sorry to state the obvious but the Police offer up a description of criminals to assist them and others in finding them, one reason is that it may jog someone's memory. A description also helps rule out innocent people. It's helped the people before on the forum, last year a group of three or four girls, one in a white puffa jacket were attacking other kids in the area, a description of them on here helped people contact the SNT who later found these girls and dealt with them. As far as I know attackers, like the ones mentioned on here, do not have a different set of clothes for every day of their lives so clothing descriptions help too. Saying that giving out accurate descriptions of attackers is useless is silly. You can report any "non 999" incidents to the Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) on 020 8721 2447
