  1. Ahhh that's democracy and politics and the such like Brendan, my reference was purely in the context of religious preachers on a bus, and in a lift. It reminds me of what my old primary school teacher used to say to me frequently "now that's not a very nice thing to do is it?"
  2. It's nuts. Someone believing passionately in something does not give them the right to preach it to/inflict it upon people who do not want to hear it, especially when they cannot get away. Even if the recipient is upper/higher/middle(higher or lower)/lower/working/under class. Imagine if you were stuck in a lift with a Man Utd supporter who shouted violently in your face for half an hour about how Ronaldo is God. Is that ok?
  3. Ask them if they would forgive you for wounding them out of anger.
  4. As I said before: "The border will be SE22/East Dulwich only, we have to draw a line somewhere and the SE22 border seems like the most obvious way to do it, but we would consider moving it based on nominations received." To expand further, say Hoopers gets nominated for something then we'll include because it's close by the SE22 border, however if The White Hart in Bath was nominated then we won't include it because it's not close by the SE22 border. This seems like an obvious way to do it to us but please let us know if you have a better suggestion. Categories are being decided tomorrow, any more good suggestions?
  5. No, stop, please don't vote now. This thread is asking people for their suggestions for categories, which are being decided this Wednesday. I will probably ask Admin to remove voting posts to nip this in the bud.
  6. respect, you win respect. From someone.
  7. Brendan, I have great pleasure in informing you that you've just made the 200,000th post on the forum. Congratulations. [edited once]
  8. Sue, all we're asking for is for suggestions about categories, don't worry about the how, what and why etc etc that's for us to sort out. Here's an example of what we're after: I would like to suggest Best Entertainment in East Dulwich This could cover comedy nights, folk nights, open mike nights etc etc. I know this doesn't really tick the customer service box but it would give recognition to the hard working people who put on those nights and give enjoyment to the people of East Dulwich.
  9. Paul at Clarity does surveys and awards for a living so please don't worry about the logistics of it, you guys will just vote for your favourites and feel their glowing love should they win.
  10. Thanks for the comments however I don't think one award would give enough praise and recognition to the large amount of local businesses we have. Hopefully 12 categories won't be confusing but we will bear in mind that it may be for some. It'll be the first awards and we'll see how it goes.
  11. It'll be the first awards and we'll see how it goes however I don't think having just one award is particularly exciting and makes it a bit too exclusive. It'll be great to spread the awards around so there can be more winners and get more people involved and excited. Making it three to four maybe a better option, perhaps they could be the Customer Service Awards for three or four categories. What would those categories be though? Like I said the categories haven't been decided yet so more suggestions are appreciated.
  12. OK, so we probably won't have the most liked estate agent (we were scraping the barrel with that one) but what else could we have? It's be good to have awards that could include people and businesses without a shop front like accountants, estate agents, garages etc. The border will be SE22/East Dulwich only, we have to draw a line somewhere and the SE22 border seems like the most obvious way to do it. [added after reading Sean's post] But we would consider moving it based on nominations received. I like the Best corner shop, good one. [edited once]
  13. Sensible suggestions please
  14. Here at forum HQ we have decided to set up and kick off the first annual East Dulwich Awards. We want to recognise local businesses that stand out from the pack in the eyes of you, the people of East Dulwich. With the help of Clarity (a company owned by local guy and fellow forumite, Paul Collins), we are going to have 12 categories that registered users of the forum can vote on. The East Dulwich Awards 2009 will give you the opportunity to give a deserved pat on the back to local people and companies who have performed well in the previous year. The list of possible categories we have so far includes: * Best Customer Service * Best place for a meal * Best place for a pint * Best bar * Best cheap eat * Best Sunday lunch * Best place for gifts * Most liked estate agent * Most reliable tradesperson * Best curry restaurant * Best take away * Best newcomer * Best cafe/coffee shop * Most child friendly place * Best Restaurant * Favourite forum person * Jewel of the ED crown (overall winner) This is not a final list so please let us know any suggestions, and as they seem to be mainly food/drink biased any suggestions on categories that will include other companies will be especially welcome. So here's how it?s going to work (and initial dates): 1) 12 categories are decided (mid December) 2) A nomination process is run through the forum, a company needs to be proposed at least twice (15-22 January) 3) Voting takes place (25-31 January) The winners of the ED Awards will receive window stickers, a trophy, a logo to use and the almighty privilege of calling themselves the best XXX in East Dulwich 2009. We?ll arranging PR so the names will be getting spread far and wide and we hope the positive publicity and good will helps give a little assistance with sales and footfalls. Business sponsorship needed: Obviously this will take some money to set up so we are looking for companies to sponsor each award category. The sponsoring companies don't have to be based in East Dulwich but they will receive exposure to the 6,500 registered users of East Dulwich Forum as well as associated publicity (the polling survey will be branded with the logo?s of sponsoring companies). Sponsors won?t be able to sponsor categories they are nominated in. We?re keeping the sponsoring price to a nominal level that covers our costs in delivering this and we really hope companies and forumites get behind this and we can make the ED Awards a worthwhile event that?s looked forward to and grows and develops year on year. To sponsor an award or note your interest and gain further information please email [email protected] Thank you Mark and Paul

    Nunhead forum

I'm not really the boss when it comes to naming an area, it's the people who use the forums who swing it, if they're happy it'll be more likely to work. I'm still waiting to hear what people who would use a Nunhead specific forum say...
  16. Me and Mrs Me are going to Oxford for a couple of days. We're staying about 15 miles west of the city so it's edge of the Cotswolds stuff, our food and lodgings are catered for, and I just wondered if anyone could recommend anything in particular to see or do or walk around or look at in the area? Thanks in advance

    Nunhead forum

No one is saying that it's in SE22, we all agree that it is in SE15, the I think point is that it is Nunhead, and some people who live in Nunhead have asked for a Nunhead forum i.e. not a Nunhead forum which is part of a Peckham forum. Oh and technically the address for Sopers is: F C Sopers 141 Evelina Road LONDON SE15 3HB No mention of Wandsworth at all.
  18. For those of you who used to rave in Warehouses of old I give you.. The Rave Generator
  19. Nearby Greetings and Somerfields, the old arcade is applying to be a late night bar. Application is to stay open until 12:30am Sunday to Thursday then 2am Friday and Saturday. Does anyone know anything about Boho Bar or the applicant, Shenol Mentesh Ibrahim? What sort of place are we going to be getting? Spit and sawdust or Chasers? Manhattan or Croydon? Full application details here: http://licensing.southwarksites.com/LicPremisesAppliedDetails.asp?systemkey=828690

    Nunhead forum

karter Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I think that it should be a Peckham SE15 forum and that Nunhead comes under it. I don't understand why? No one from Peckham has asked for a forum but some people from Nunhead have. I think people are preferring it to be based in on the area "Nunhead" than the postal code but I may be wrong. I guess it's best to ask those who would use a forum for Nunhead, would they prefer to have the Nunhead Forum or their own section of the Peckham Forum? Let us know... [edited once]

    Nunhead forum

There has been no progress on the Nunhead forum I'm afraid but now I know there's interest I can put it back on the "things to do" list.
  23. Sorry to hear about that annaj, you can ask Sainburys for the CCTV footage, they're legally obliged to give you any recording that contains you on it although they may ask for a fee (but they can't ask for more than ?10). If you can manage get the footage of her scraping your car then you can go down the criminal damage route.
  24. Thanks Keef. And just to say we've created a donate page http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/donate.php which lists companies who have helped us out and to whom we are exceptionally grateful. And of course it's never too late to be on that list.
  25. Just to let you know that that we've added a Donate link, down there in the bottom right corner of every page, which links to this page (because it has the Paypal donate button at the top). Should you ever find a house, save some money, fall in love, get some work etc etc because of the forum feel free to say thanks with some money so that it can carry on being fun and useful.
