  1. If you have a look on this website http://www.urbanpath.com/london/delicatessens/east-dulwich-deli.htm there's reviews of the East Dulwich deli and a mention of Harrods by one of the owners.
  2. Initial impression is it's so much bigger than Inside 72 and they've worked hard to scrub it up and make it look like a set from Hollyoaks. A bottle of Peroni is ?3.30. The client?le are pretty girls, who will attract pretty boys (and estate agents with hair wax) adding to the the "Hollyoaks" feel. The acoustics are terrible, you have to shout at each other over the tinny music which is XFM's playlist from a couple of months ago. It will be interesting to see how it's going to entertain the daytime punters as it's definitely an evening venue. It's not my sort of place but then neither is a creche and they're popular and busy round here so I can't see it struggling. Give it some time to get worn in, loose its Chester sheen, get some soul and it'll be fine. Added: I'll second that about the staff, they were friendly, knowledgeable and very hard working. 3. I don't go in Threshers because it smells of sick.
  4. I can remember when this forum was just East Dulwich locals having a good time, then outsiders came in from the er, outside and tried joining in the fun but just tainted it with their repetitive "days of old" speeches. Perhaps Admin could ban 'incomers' and make it the peaceful and tranquil island it once was, ok it won't be as big and diverse and progressive as it is now but I don't care because I just have happy memories which will come back to life if I had my way. :)) :))
  5. Are there signs like this http://www.metrokc.gov/kcdot/roads/traffic/bingo/noright.gif or this http://www.bristol.ac.uk/imagelib/tsao-t35.gif there?
  6. Yes, I agree with you about local shops, but this isn't (wasn't) a negative thread so why stir up bad vibes? It serves no positive purpose. Heck, even Snorky likes this place and is going to give it a try and if that's not a good omen I don't know what is. People are liking the bike shop, it's really busy and you can find it just past Goose Green, on the left, on the way to Peckham. [edited once]
  7. Just out of curiosity, who are you talking to LibraCarr? The one person who had a not so good experience at the bike shop which has been addressed by Mr Balfe, or the other dozen or so posts that don't "slag off" the shop and wish it well. You seen to have just written negative piffle about lots of people for no reason. Anyway I think it's great that we've got a bike shop in East Dulwich now.
  8. no, please don't.
  9. Sorry, I didn't manage to get it done by last Wednesday, the real world is rather busy at the moment. And more importantly I forget to say congratulations, congratulations.
  10. Tony, after a full stop or comma, please put a space. Like that. [edited once] for spelling
  11. In this case they were not restraining, not using reasonable force, not defending themselves, not giving a "good 'ol clip round the ear", they were punching someone in the front of the store. He may have been guilty of shoplifting, he may not have been, but it's not right that private security guards can acceptably dish out physical punishment as a form of justice. It's scary and amusing that some people think of Somerfield's security guards as the representatives of the British justice system.
  12. I'm guessing the FHT may just have to make a bit of extra effort to keep people quiet when they leave the building early in the morning. Joe's obviously aware of this so give him a chance. ps "Is this the promoter that is causing the noise problem?" is not libellous.
  13. It's a shame some people didn't get punctuation beaten into them as a child eh Tony? I did, in fact, I was beaten into a comma for 6 months.
  14. I remember being told at a wine tasting at Green & Blue that, except for a couple of exceptions, all wines contain sulphites as it's a by-product of the fermentation process. Like saying that Ribena contains purple. Sort of.
  15. Don't expect to be attacked shoshntosh, your point's been made before and hopefully now most people would ask this guy a question (of some sort) if they were to see him now that they are more aware. Perhaps they should gather a few other parents together and approach him in a group if it feels safer.
  16. I have nephews and nieces that I take to the park, if I saw someone covertly filming them with a video camera at I would ask them what they're doing. If I wasn't satisfied with their answer I would probably report them to the Safer Neighbourhood Team or the police and I would also take a picture of them with my phone just for the record. I would also make other parents in the park aware of what I was doing and what he was doing. Paranoia is an irrational distrust of others however in this instance someone is actually doing something which is deemed as borderline socially wrong and/or questionable, i.e. covertly filming others' kids in a park. We rational people know that if we (especially men) were to go to a random park and film random children then we would probably be approached and questioned because, whether we like it or not, there is a concern about people doing such things. Loz, your initial question was "why would someone filming an area where children were playing be up to no good...?", it's because they would take the video home, play with themselves and get their kicks from the fact that they were close to the children and can do it again. There's no comparison to a TV ad. KidKruger I hope that answers your question too ("Can somebody please explicitly tell me what the 'fear' / suspicion is?"), in case it doesn't, the fear is that someone will film your child, take the film home and get off on it. The thought is repulsive and instinctively brings out a protective instinct in any parent or guardian and making people feel uneasy about that instinct is wrong. OK some people are over protective, some under protective but we know that getting sexual pleasure from children is wrong and a minuscule minority of people do. In the past I've seen a man standing outside a boys playground openly playing with his cock, getting his kicks from looking at little boys, needless to say he was restrained and arrested. I've seen an old man in a shop, bend over and blatantly look up school girls skirts and I've seen girls upset after someone flashed at them. Sad pervs can get off on on all sorts. I think the main point here is to keep it in perspective. Phrases like "I'm fed up with every adult encounter with children being subject to fear and suspicion" are just silly and over the top. As Loz said, sharing concerns is good and we're talking about one man and one initial incident here, not every adult encounter, unnecessary exaggeration just fuels the Daily Mail attitude on both side of the "I'm concerned - you're paranoid" argument. People now know that there is a man covertly filming kids and if they see him they can approach him, tell others, report him or do what ever they feel comfortable doing. It's not being paranoid and I think labelling it as such is wrong, as candj and others have said, he is filming children, yes Macroban, legally he doing nothing wrong but you have to admit it's a bit weird. Now will someone please go and ask him what he's doing and then act accordingly.

    a joke

God in da house, make some noize ... [edited once]
  18. Option 1's best (or sometimes ED to Tulse Hill then to Gatwick), takes about 45/50 minutes on the way back though that route stops about 5pm and you'll have to go Gatwick to East Croydon to Forest Hill, bus to ED. Or similar.
  19. ok, I'll put my finger out and aim to get it done next week. Will that be in time "pour la brioche"?
  20. Matham Grove: May'thum Grove, Math'um Grove or Mar'thum Grove?
  21. This morning I got the "Your Amazon.com order has shipped" email for The Wire series 5. Ok it's coming from the US but please hurry up Mr Postman.
  22. No not him, this guy has the tall thin sheepdog and they walk from Goose Green and up Lordship Lane quite slowly.
  23. Yes, I see them frequently and the dog stops to say hello to people who are sat outside the EDT. He looks fine to me, where did you see the sores cab and I can have a look out for the dog today and take a look? And have you seen something that makes you say it being severely neglected? Please let us know so that we can do something.
  24. Spend extra money on making the ladies toilets excellent. The ladies will appreciate it and return. If the ladies return the gents will return. Simple. And don't charge ?3.20 for an orange juice and lemonade.

    Mortified!

That's really quite rough, I hope the smell goes soon. We had a roofer working on our roof recently and he said from up there in broad daylight he could see a big rats, as bold as could be, walking round the edge of the garden and out on to the pavement following people down the road. For what it's worth, thank you for getting rid of one of them.
