  1. How do we suffer? We have to listen to the speakers on Radio 4's Thought for the Day stating that if only we had listened to Jesus then everything would be ok. Seriously though, the main "suffering" is because of the privileges given to religions in schools, marriages, law etc that are not fair to people who don't hold religious or superstitious beliefs. Have a look at the list of campaigns on the Humanist's website http://www.humanism.org.uk/site/cms/contentChapterView.asp?chapter=340 it will show you some examples.
  2. I finished Series 5 on Saturday, and let's just say it's fucking brilliant. That's all I want to say really so I don't give da game away, you gotz me? David_carnell, your time has come, the box set is now ready for you to borrow.
  3. I've been informed that the mural's actually in the Lane Ward so the councillors for that are: [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] Tessa Jowell's office contacted me to let me know that they "have contacted the local councillors and also Southwark to add Tessa Jowell's concerns to those already expressed." Which is nice.
  4. As Goose Green lies on the boundaries of a few wards, probably best to write to all of the following councillors: East Dulwich [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] South Camberwell [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] Peckham Rye [email protected] [email protected] [email protected]
  5. The user jumpinjourno is with Southwark News and I know that the South London Press have been told.
  6. At the top of Goose Green there is a mural that looked like this: http://www.londonersworld.com/images/BlakeMural.jpg A Tree Filled with Angels at Goose Green, East Dulwich * It now looks like this... after council workers painted it yesterday. Anyone know why? Are they going to paint over all of it? I am a member of the Friends of Goose Green, and part of what we do is preserve the green and the playground but we knew nothing about this. Myself and others in the group that I have heard from are all outraged at this council exercise. Personally I thought we had a good relationship with the council and that we were working for same goal of keeping the green and playground an enjoyable place for everyone. How does painting the bottom third of a famous mural blue help achieve this? Mark *"This mural (pictured above) commemorates a vision that a young William Blake saw on Peckham Rye in 1767 ? a vision of 'a tree filled with angels, bright angelic wings bespangling every bough like stars'. Taken from the Londoners world website Read about the artist here http://www.stanpeskett.com/index.php?categoryid=43&p17_sectionid=20
  7. were you in a car?
  8. I've had something similar before and it was a neighbour's smoke alarm announcing that its battery is running low. Just a thought.
  9. I think you're probably right chuff. Perhaps the van could sell someone a seed and with it they get a free coffee.
  10. I like the idea of the Mag, in keeping with the tradition of going to pubs that have just been done up/new owners etc. And they may have a working kitchen by then to make us some delicious fare.
  11. I thought that shops owned about 3 1/2 feet into the pavement (that's what those brass studs in the pavement are marking), if you keep in that area I would have thought you were classed as being on the Garden Centre's property? Although there may of course be a piece of paper somewhere that says something which means you're not allowed to.

That'll be the other end of Goose Green then, so I'd say a 9 minute walk from there. Walk up along the edge of Goose Green towards Peckham Rye, cross over the Rye and it's about 3 minutes walk along there on the left. Ahh, the knee surgery of course, not sure about the buses there I'm afraid.
  13. Bus from Goose Green! It's about 7 minutes walk from there. I'll be going from that area about 8ish so could meet you outside Locale at 8 if you need an escort.
  14. 40 years ago, that'll be 1968: 1968: Rail go-slow begins The country's rail network has been thrown into disarray by the National Union of Railwaymen's (NUR) work-to-rule. 1968: Police clash with anti-war protesters 1968: Shops told to stop conning customers Shopkeepers could face prosecution from now on for not telling the truth about goods they are selling. 1968: Mary Bell found guilty of double killing An 11-year-old girl has been sentenced to life for the manslaughter of two small boys Those were the days eh? (I feel a Loungin' coming on)

I said I'll try it again, but maybe I shouldn't as the defenders of the Adventure bar just seem to have a go at those of us who have tried it and didn't like everything about it 100% the first time. Do you mind if we give it another go? [edited once]

  17. "At the Decanter World Wine Awards in the South London's Green & Blue won Independent Wine Merchant of the Year in the Under 12 staff category" Good work and well deserved.
  18. Why is Liquorish "embarrassing"?
  19. The guy at the fabric shop upsets people (sometimes) The guy at the stationers scares people (sometimes) The staff at the bars on Lordship Lane, including the Adventure Bar, are friendly and welcoming. [edited thrice]
  20. In my opinion the EDT, the Bishop, the Black Cherry, the Palmerston, Liquorish and the Plough all have friendly and welcoming staff, I've never seen any of them be inhospitable in the last couple of years. If you want to move onto other categories like shops and cafes don't try the stationers or the fabric shop, they eat children.
  21. theboytopper, I don't think it's a case of it being resented for being a chain except by one or two people, I get the feeling most people on here have tried it and just don't like it. Take the EDT and the Bishop, people don't really give a toss that they're part of a small chain, only those who have nothing solid to argue about bring it up as a point of issue. I tried the Adventure bar and I'll give it a second go, but I have to point out that all the pubs and bars "down our little Lordship Lane" have friendly staff, it's not a new concept round here.
  22. I know it's only a week into being open but has anyone (who's been in, not just diss'ed its concept) actually liked the Adventure bar enough to make it a regular of theirs? Or go there instead of Liquorish or Black Cherry?
