I like there being lots of trees in East Dulwich. And remember Boris is aiming to plant lots more trees in London so I'm with him on that.

Good luck Rueben, I know you put lots of hard work into the Plough and made it a really decent place that loads of people now enjoy. Good on ya.

I suggested it too initially and was happy with the plans that were drawn up but the views and opinions came in and it was decided, on weight of the dog walkers' opinions, that it would be too small an area especially when there were quite a few dogs and walkers around and especially when there were aggressive ones around.

The council after a consultation did put forward a proposal to fence off the area closest to the roundabout for dog use but it was subsequently rejected by dog walkers as there was not enough space. Anyway, I was walking through through the Green last night about 9:30 there were two blokes with their dogs in the "dog free" area. I saw one of the dogs have a sh*t and, although both men saw the dog do this, neither of them cleared it up. It reminded me of the bloke I saw earlier in the day park his car in the bus lane, in front of a bus and then stroll casually into the newsagent i.e. they don't care about inconvenience they cause others even if there are rules in place. I do see other people with their dogs in the dog free area from time to time and fence or no fence they'll go in there. Personally I would prefer to have no fence and a couple of pleasant signs saying "please try and keep dogs in a certain area", the majority of dog walkers will do so as they respect other users of the green and those that don't don't.

Nicely copied from wikipedia Tony. You forgot to mention that Ronnie, apart from being a deep thinker, held Jack the Hat whilst his brother stabbed him in the face. Those were the days.

Hi adoodledo I was thinking about this earlier, what can I do? I don't have kids that I can influence, I'm not a teacher, I'm not in the justice system, I'm not a social worker or of that line of work so what can I do to help? I know I can watch the programmes about gun crime, read comments about how it's the fault of black culture/single fathers/mothers/chavs/schools, snarl at my MP for not making England the green and pleasant land it should be, point fingers et al but it would be good to investigate the ways I could actually make a difference by doing something rather than being a couch politician. Please let me know what you find out, I'll be interested to hear what you have to say.

So where you are now is like where we are now, but 40 years ago? Get the spare room ready Tony, Louisa's coming over. Seriously though, and I'm not trying to sound patronising but probably will, what your point? Do you work for Foxtons (North Kent branch)?

Sister Mary Katherine entered the Monastery of Silence. The Priest said, 'Sister, this is a silent monastery. You are welcome here as long as you like, but you may not speak until directed to do so. ' Sister Mary Katherine lived in the monastery for 5 years before the Priest said to her,'Sister Mary Katherine, you have been here for 5 years. You may speak two words.' Sister Mary Katherine said,'Hard bed.' 'I'm sorry to hear that,' the Priest said, 'We will get you a better bed.' After another 5 years, Sister Mary Katherine was summoned by the Priest. 'You may say another two words, Sister Mary Katherine.' 'Cold food,' said Sister Mary Katherine, and the Priest assured her that the food would be better in the future. On her 15th anniversary at the monastery, the Priest again called Sister Mary Katherine in to his office. 'You may say two words today.' 'I quit,' said Sister Mary Katherine. 'It's probably best,' said the Priest, 'You've done nothing but complain since you got here.'

New school in the heart of East Dulwich!
Mark replied to Muttley's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
And getting it back to East Dulwich, are there many faith schools in the area? Are they generally as fundamentalist as this one being discussed? -
New school in the heart of East Dulwich!

from the shool's website: "Social studies curriculum looks at world history and cultures from the perspective that God is the Designer, Creator, and Controller of the universe. As a result, to study social studies is to study responses of people to the truth of the Word of God. Beginning in the Garden of Eden, man?s failure to abide by the principles of God is traced throughout history." How can it be right to teach children that these days? -

I assume it's East Dulwich Grove and not East Dulwich Road. Personally I don't like faith schools because they exclude children because of their parent's faith etc etc and I would rather they don't spread their exclusive and false preachings to vulnerable youngsters round these parts. -
Ahhh, you didn't say that you were away after the 29th and sorry that my attempt to clarify was unhelpful but I did try. I will personally get a bag for you on your behalf, when you return send me a private message and we'll sort out getting it to you. Michael, I'll try and get you for one too and hopefully that'll remove the irritation ;-).

Viscious Dogs, hmmm, that's a almost a sticky one ;-) There's some info on the dangerous dogs act here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dangerous_Dogs_Act_1991 [edited once]

Blimey, it's not that confusing: You get a voucher through the door, you take to one of the distribution places (before the 29th June) After the 29th you don't need a voucher to get a bag from one of the distribution places. That way it makes it fair to people with vouchers, who live in SE22.

I think as you approach your dying days that Pascal's wager may play on uncertainties in fragile minds but that's not the case here. To quote Terry Pratchett from 4 days ago "There is a rumour going around that I have found God. I think this is unlikely because I have enough difficulty finding my keys, and there is empirical evidence that they exist. "

Got ours on East Dulwich Road at the weekend. Look forward to picking up the bag, and good work Monica and co for getting this done I know it's been a hard slog so congratulations on pushing it all the way and making it happen.

Picnic benches in Goose Green Playground
Mark replied to victor's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I know they're primary kids but omgwtfpwn said "they don't listen to anyone". I was just getting defensive but I just hope that she's raised the point during the consultaion, otherwise people don't know how she feels. -

omgwtfpwn Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > All i'm hearing is this so called 'fogg' decides whats best without really listening to what anyone else wants. I'm not sure where you get that from but try listening again to the bit above that says "...many of the children from St John's, Goose Green Primary and Puddleducks know me as I have visited them to get their input on the plans". Perhaps you should put your tangible suggestions for the playground forward to whoever you feel will listen, FoGG is a good place to start. -
have a read of this thread http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,129755,page=1 it may help. Also have a look at the minutes for the Friends of Goose Green public meeting Word Document: "Councils can only enforce dog exercise areas with a by-law which does not exist at present within Southwark. It is therefore not currently legal to put up signage to try to enforce a dog-free area. In the absence of a by-law, the Council will need a Dog Control Order (per Clean Neighbourhoods & Environment Act 2005)." [edited once]

Picnic benches in Goose Green Playground
Mark replied to victor's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
This discussion is about the benches, people were negative about the council's decision, Denise stepped in and it's now been addressed, surely that's a good thing? FoGG has established itself as a voice for the preservation and improvement of Goose Green and the playground and so are a useful group to have in the area. I'm biased here because I'm on the FoGG committee too but things have been done, as demonstrated here by Denise's hard work, so I can understand her annoyance at the negativity and lack of appreciation. Those with kids will know the feeling of thankless tasks so I'd expect them to know better. Anyway I would recommend that people sign up on the Fogg website to stay informed about Goose Green (especially about the playground and the dividing fence across the green) and you'll be updated when there's any news or something interesting happening. -

Picnic benches in Goose Green Playground
Mark replied to victor's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I would also suggest contacting the Friends of Goose Green (FoGG) http://www.friendsofgoosegreen.org.uk/ who have established themselves as a group of residents with the best interests of the Green (including the playground) at heart. I know they have recently been allocated funding to develop the playground (which was announced at the public meeting) but the benches were not part of that but I will raise the question of the benches at the committee meeting tomorrow night (I'm on the committee) to see if anyone knows anything about them. And I would suggest signing up to the email mailing list to hear about Goose Green events and announcements that FoGG are aware of, this includes public meetings, council decisions etc. [edited once] -
