My daughter is in a new pair of shoes roughly every 6 weeks at the moment. I have a growing collection of shoes that are too small for her, used and a bit scuffed, but nowhere near worn out. There are Clarks, Kickers, and Startright shoes plus a couple of pairs of mothercare sandals. I also have 2 pairs of Ugg boots and converse trainers. Seems a waste to throw them away but all except the sandals, Uggs and converse were fitted. Any suggestions as to where they could be put to good use?

Surely they are not up already?!?!?!? It's August ........ Unless of course cost cuts mean they were never taken down ;-)

Troll alert!

Until they run out as far as I'm aware..... Think that's what it says on the sign outside.

I tend to have I in the main seat and L underneath. I've recently swapped them over for nursery drop off's and pick ups. Have problems with I on the way home as she is generally tired, grumpy and wants to walk. It would take forever to let her walk all the way home (@ 1 mile) but she doesnt understand that and if I pop her back in the bottom seat she gets upset. I was thinking maybe a buggy board would work in this situation as it's more like scooting (which she likes). Don't really want to lose the second seat though as she isn't really old enough for a buggy board to be a more permanent solution. L much happier in the main seat too, so a buggy board, if feasible could work well.

A stupid question about defrosting meat..

As long as you cook them before refreezing that's fine. -
Thinking of investing in one. Baby happiest in main seat and toddler likes the back seat but also likes to walk.... Would be ideal if we could use a buggy board in addition to having the two seats. If however the lascal only works when doubles kit not attached then it's probably not a good purchase as toddler not yet old enough to just rely on board. lascal website claims both the lascal maxi and mini fit the Vibe, but doesn't specify if that's with the doubles kit or not. Anyone know?

I like your thinking :-) -
Bit of a backhanded apology there. Having help does not make anyone a bad parent, if anything it will make better parents who are not tired and stressed. Years ago people had extended family living locally who helped out. Hospitals kept mum and baby in for a couple of weeks, mums sleeping in the ward, babies in the nursery to ensure mum got some rest before going home - how is that any different? I am sure there are people who have children but don't really want the responsibility, I've yet to come across such person either personally or on this forum. The family room posters are on the whole very supportive of one another and accept different parenting styles. I find it sad that someone with no personal experience of what it is like to have no sleep 3 nights on the trot while giving birth and then be sent home to care for a baby, with the accompanying sleep deprivation, has such a strong and quite frankly ignorant opinion on those that recognise they need help and seek it. I didn't have a maternity nurse but was lucky as both my babies slept 3 hours between feeds, a lot don't! I also have a partner that works from home with flexible hours, again unusual. Add other children to the mix and it's a recipe for a very tired, stressed mum. I openly admit that I cope as well as I do because I have far more support and help (given our family circumstances) than most if not all of the other mums I know. I still have difficult days! Paternity leave is only 2 weeks and that is in the main unpaid! How a sleep deprived new mother with no family close by should simply 'get on with it' or be classed shirking their responsibilities Is beyond me!

I second the toys r us at times square, there is a fantastic big wheel in the middle, it's great :-) Am now thinking I want to book NYNY! Havent been in years! Clearly need to go :-) -
I have no link with the Plough whatsoever other than it being close to where I live. When I moved here nearly 5 years ago I never visited the Plough, it was then refurbished and the roast dinners were fab, I went there for a roast pretty much every Sunday. The management changed and it went downhill: after 3 bad experiences on the trot, which were not appropriately rectified, I stopped going for anything other than a hot chocolate on a Tuesday afternoon with some new mum friends upon the birth of my daughter. When Gavin took over it was apparant he cared and wanted the pub to do well. I 'risked' eating there again and am pleased to say it was lovely, good food and service. I've been back on numerous occasions since and experienced great food and good service on all occasions. I appreciate the team are limited somewhat by the brewery, however, despite this, Gavin and his team are doing great things and everything is moving in a positive direction. Anyone that had a bad experience under the previous management, don't be put off .... It's worth another visit :-) As for the brewery..... If your reading this, congratulations on appointing a good manager, trust him, give him free reign and reap the benefits!!!!

Advice on whether I need a double pram
ClareC replied to verds's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Totally agree a sling is an absolute necessity. Given your age gap I would avoid a double buggy at all costs!! Can't wait until I don't need one..... Try a buggy board and sling and if it doesn't work out pick up a cheap double buggy second hand. Def not worth spending a lot and buying new. -
I had sleep.... Now I don't :-( Is it not a case of accepting the sacrifices that come part and parcel when you choose to have children? My youngest was a brilliant sleeper very early on but has regressed somewhat in the last week.... Worse than when he wS a new-born. No joke when you have a toddler up and full of the joys of spring at 7am and no chance to rest during the day. Do I mind my son getting up? No, it's part of the package I accepted in having him. Would my preference be not getting up every 1-2 hours? Yes, of course it would be. Sleep deprivation is a sacrifice despite not begrudging it! More worringly I still like the idea of a third..... Am just hoping should I have number 3 a fourth won't become appealing ;-)

Totally agree sillywoman!! It's not a financial thing necessarily either! Edited to say my two are 19mths and 4mths. It can be Bl**dy hard work at times and I can categorically state they have changed my life significantly (not all changes positive!. That said, I wouldn't change anything and would happily have a third.... Albeit with a larger age gap ;-) Hardest sacrifice right now..... A good nights sleep with lay in!!

I bought a double Maclaren on here for our hols next month, can't remember the model but has Cosy toes, rain cover etc. Your welcome to borrow that. As for NYNY it's fab :-) can't help with the child friendly stuff as have only been pre kids (sigh), maybe the boat trip to Statton Island (?) could be good. I'm sure Seb would love it especially with the boats to see and helicopters that invariably buzz around. Hamleys a must too, the store is huge and pretty special. Not to mention close to Tiffany's ;-) There are horse and carriages and remote controlled boats in Central Park, plus the zoo which will all appeal too. -

Start a thread about it then. To hijack a thread that is on another subject is uncalled for and bad manners! -
How is a childminder less children to adult?

We are on Goodrich too, no water here either. Went off just after 7. There is a water leak on crystal Palace Road round the corner that is still gushing water, it's been like that for weeks now!!

No idea what they are filming but it's been going on most of today, I went past at lunch time and just now and its all still going on. Pub is closed and being "guarded" by a couple of blokes in hi vis jackets.

I sent my daughter for two afternoons a week at 14 mths. I was really undecided as to what to do for the best for her, the deciding factor being I found a nursery I had a really good feeling about. The settling in was quite tough (for me but not her), however I am really glad I did it. She loves nursery and has learnt so much whilst there, the nursery is lovely and does loads of activities with her. Definitely no regrets.

Pizza express in the village if you sit outside, horniman is lead walk only but nice. -
Does the hire company give the option of a roofbox/rack? How far from the airport is the accommodation? Close enough for two trips if necessary? It's worth taking bungees as you could remove the parcel shelf and stand the buggy up and strapped with bungees so it takes less space. You could also take a smaller buggy, or depending where you are going buy a really cheap one whilst there to use and leave(they can be purchased for less than ?25 in some places), hassle I know but if it's significantly more expensive to get the larger car may be cost effective. You may be lucky and get an upgrade...

Well said wd152 and welcome to ED. The Family room is a pretty friendly place and a fantastic way to meet other local mums. I totally understand where your coming from with the 'talk' at parent and baby groups, however, think this may in a lot of cases be common ground and an ice breaker just to start a conversation. Course this isn't the case in all cases! I think a lot of mums do lose confidence and can find it hard to infiltrate the various groups, search 'I love biscuits' and you will find a thread that makes for an interesting read. My daughter is nearly 19months and my son is 3mths, I can honestly say before going on maternity leave I knew only a handful of people locally and was (I'm ashamed to admit) scared I would have nothing in common with what I saw as a stereotypical ED mum. I've yet to meet the stereotype...... I have however met a fantastic group of ladies locally who are good company pushing a buggy round the park, chatting over coffee and cake and (thankfully) drinking cocktails and wine on nights out! I've met mums who I can honestly say I would be friends with and enjoy their company even in the absence of all having children of a similar age..... That has simply been the catalyst to meet! Good luck, I'm certain you will find a great group of mums :-) Unfortunately im not in the slightest bit arty, would only describe myself "cool" when skiing without my mid layer and do on occasion talk about kids...... On the positive side I am definitely interested in good conversation, having fun and having an identity as an individual that happens to have kids rather than just another ED mum with a too big buggy and 4x4 ;-) Feels like a lonely heart column now but what I am awkwardly saying is I don't meet your specification but that aside, if you fancy meeting up for a cuppa (and can deal with a demanding toddler joining us) would be lovely to meet you :-)
