  2. Clumsy cut & paste of Louisa's post, I assumed just the typing in block capitals was Seabag's, then looked like the original signature had been left in. Am I the only one wanting to know if the boiler problem was fixed?! Louisa
  3. hi morty - you might want to also post this in the forum's Lost & Found section and check there for sightings. hope your toddler is reunited with him soon.

  6. I think you should get an isa that locks up your savings for X amount of years, they are not all easily accessed. Best to go for one that is locked for say, 2 years then you can move it to another rather than having it tied up for as long as 5 years when things may change and you could end up losing out.
  7. Ted Max are you my friend James IRL? We used to have a giggle about the different regional accents in cinema advertising and this thread has just reminded me about it. Why were the ads always for the most mundane of local shops? Dodgy second-hand car dealership a must. Electricity "showroom". No, not the trendy bar in Hoxton. Local independent chemist. If you were lucky you may have seen ads for more exotic places such as: Antonio's chip shop & family run ice cream parlour. Pizza place that only lasted a year before going out of business. Lingerie shop. That no-one dared go in. Or be seen. Hairdresser's shop with all the 'latest' styles/products/techniques that would transform your life.
  8. Barr's limeade. Think there was a limited edition tangerine-ade once. Or did I imagine it? I also love root beer but you don't really get it here much. PS if anyone knows how to post pics to the forum but not as a link, could you please remind me how to do it? Ta.
  9. FGS its not just in London, its anywhere where parking may be problematic that there's an unwritten common courtesy that a wheelie bin can be left in a space to reserve it for a specific period of time and use. This is usually for a removal van arriving/people who need to lift or move heavy equipment/tools to and from property and so on, not for say, visitors or the entitled who can't be arsed to walk. Not an everyday occurrence but as a one-off.
  10. Ginger beer. Lashings of it.
  11. only made it once this year and not wanting to ruin decent fish, I found Felicity Cloake's article useful. There's a basic batter recipe at the end which worked really well. http://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/wordofmouth/2011/sep/29/how-cook-perfect-battered-fish your brother in law might be interested to read this excellent piece on F&C from daniel young - http://youngandfoodish.com/london/the-best-fish-and-chips-in-london/
  12. KalamityKel - yes, er..I mean no. I dunno!! Good question.
  13. No one has mentioned the brekkies at Mon Petit Chou. I am assuming it is still there? They did excellent veggie fry ups (halloumi mmmmm) & freshly squeezed juices, service is super quick and efficient. I expect a potato scone in Scotland but not dahn south. On field trips to Castleton, there's an excellent b&b that provides a 'Full Derbyshire' with an oatcake/potato thingy. Excellent. I love the regional variations. Beans with a fry up are just wrong, no matter where you are.

It's not even really about twitter or idiots in your timeline strafer. its people writing misinformed blogs that on the surface look quite good and seem 'factual' and then some nice people RTing it and so on, perpetuating crap as 'truths' or implied consensus view. one particularly sensible writer I follow is just RTing everything that is being 'live tweeted' by another person he follows. It is driving me barmy as if I wanted to f-ing follow someone live tweeting an event then I'd follow them, I don't need someone else to do it for me. If that makes sense. and then of course there's the ones whose politics or point of view I just disagree with. idiots ;) edit: mute button very handy, i've muted him for a couple of days. I think its healthy to read stuff that you don't always agree with too, as long as its not factually wrong.

???? Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Guardian & Twitter......did you expect truth? twitter is unbearable at the moment, so much crap flying around. I only use it for entertainment purposes, having chats with people and learning about things that aren't related to politics, history or science because you haven't got a hope in hell there. on topic, does this mean I won't be able to watch family guy anymore? probably a good thing. am still singing the bird song in my head.
  17. qualities that good managers have had - ones that earn your trust & respect, fairness, honesty, decisive, are confident in their ability and that of their team, know when to help out and when to leave you to get on with it, not micromanage within an inch of their life, ability to be a leader as well as a part of the team, patience, being able to communicate clearly, praises team when necessary but not in a fake way. someone who brings out the best in people and who you can learn from. usually, like you say, the qualities that crap managers think they possess.
  18. I love the insinuation that its the woman's fault for 'breaking up the home'. Nothing to do with a married man cheating on his wife then? *rolls eyes*
  19. oh sorry to keep clogging up your thread quids but yes you ought to try pulled pork. the excellent ribman that strafer mentions above is at the Boleyn on match days.
  20. pancakes (early I know!) chinese chicken and chilli green beans that I made at home. Lincolnshire poacher cheese (my 'new' favourite), crackers and home-made apple chutney made by an ED-er. not quite as good a week as you but I haven't been out much this week.
  21. ah thanks loobylou, didn't know their name but that sounds exactly right! shudder...
  22. I like em three! :))
  23. Another vote for the Angry Birds eyebrows look. Just weird. Queuing all night for pop-ups. Touch screen devices. Shabby chic gone mental. Everything, everywhere looks the f-ing same. That extreme piercing thing. You know the one. I don't even know what its called but it makes giant holes in your ears and I can't bear to look at them. PS quids you forgot to add 'twitter' to your list ;)
  24. Margot - sorry didn't see your q earlier, ruffers got it in one! LadyD - I really admire anyone who sets up their own business, really hardworking people IME. Never met one yet who had a day off sick! There was a programme on the radio recently about a chimney sweep in Cambridge running his own business. He said he couldn't/wouldn't want to do "a proper job" but I was thinking "you already are, you truly are!!". He was excellent. Similarly to you (and to my surprise I might add), I also got on really well with two of the only female bosses I've had. They were really supportive, ambitious and quite brilliant. Although I have had two fantastic male bosses as well so it balances out ;)
  25. The Peter Principle is alive and well. Book looks great, will look out for it in local bookshop. Spent years with only excellent managers then I seemed to encounter an unlucky streak, experiencing a succession of insufferable tossers that I wouldn't* even want to have a drink with dahn the pub after work. *(my measure of unbearableness, usually people have some redeeming features out of the office)
