  1. Didn't he successfully abolish the Dead Vote?

Whilst all opinions are of course valid, I think PR was just replying to the OP's original question as to whether 'we are still anti-fur in ED or is it acceptable now'... Anyway, I think those wearing 'vintage' (oh so that's oh-kay then?!) rabbit gilets have a lot to answer for.

  5. So who decided to give that cushy job to Michael Portillo. Jammy git.

    David. "Rodney you plonkaaah"
  7. Watched this. Loved it apart from the voice over which (IMO) occasionally strayed towards anthropomorphising wildlife. Loved the nightwatchman who weighed foxes and badgers on the weighbridge; a lot of interesting characters on there. I think it honestly said as much about people as it did about animals.
  8. am I the only person who wishes they'd managed to read the thread before Woody's edits? edit - meant to say, my mum was originally a Kennedy.
  9. Otta Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > And they do Tavern Snacks Cheese & Onion, which > makes them alright in my book. So does the Ivy House in Nunhead. (sorry I know this thread is about other places but just had to say!) Also found it very welcoming, really well worth a visit.
  10. You can spot the person who lives in Nunhead protesting too much on this thread a mile off! Sue, have you tried a variety of estate agents? Did they all say the same thing? I've always liked Nunhead too. Even when I lived in a very nice part of ED (near friends, cafes etc). I went to the Ivy House and loved it, great service and beautiful interior. Aren't there allotments up by the cemetery. Could you downsize and enjoy the green spaces more instead? It certainly seems quieter and calmer over there than the bustling of LL and NX road.
  11. Yes, of course I've read it. I wouldn't have posted otherwise.
  12. woodrot, if anyone has genuinely serious doubts about an animal's welfare, then it is right that it is properly investigated, no?
  13. I bought a second-hand Skoda Fabia that was a few years old for a very reasonable price. Def not as cool a car as a VW or Audi but its v.economical to run and insure. Service costs don't look like they will be massive either. It's bigger than a VW Polo, maybe its size is on a par with a Golf. 5 doors, lots of boot space, roomy inside. Mind you, I'm a short-arse although its comfortable to drive if you're over 6 ft. So I'm told. Don't know anything about car finance. I did loads of research before I decided upon Make/model. You could try What Car, Autotrader etc websites for comparisons too.
  14. *coughs* next Saturday...I hear the Great Exhibition is nice.
  15. No-one noticed when good ol' Barry's spruced itself up a bit. (not sure I remember F&B French Grey colours but there were definitely new fancy chalkboards outside). As long as Melange chocolate shop stays at is is. One of my favourite places ever.
  16. get well soon shorty. (another one who thought you'd been a tad quiet on here lately).

jeez all this talk about meat vs veg is driving me nuts. Just because someone is veggie does not mean that they eat a more sustainable diet than a meat eater (am not anti-veggie by the way, just want to make a point). We are so used to having a rich variety of foods now that we have forgotten the most 'sustainable' way to eat is to get your food variety over the space of year, not a week. If you truly eat food that is dictated by the seasons, then you will be eating a glut of a particular thing till you think you can eat no more of it and then until it is replaced by something new and so on. edited to add: so anyone moaning about a particular dish on the menu being the same. well it might ideally be the same ingredietn for that season, cooked in different way. Until the next season. etc.
  19. I think its what those in trade commonly refer to as 'aspirational sludge'

What Jah said. Wtf should any new place have to 'feel a need' to conform towards/provide an ottolenghi (or anyone else's standard)? Good luck to the patch.

Do they have square plates at the Patch? Just thinking there's another wholly flawed comparison to be made.

(awful name, IMHO) They are advertising on the forum on the left-hand side banner, the name makes more sense - very clever. I've only ever heard good things about them too and I think they way they respond to queries on the forum is excellent.
  23. PGC - there was me thinking that stovies were a mythical food creation only ever eaten by Oor Wullie. Sue - next time have some mulled wine as well :))

  25. love archery. went for lessons last year for the first time, somehow I found I preferred the old-fashioned longbow to the modern recurve bow (which sighted & measured everything for you). I think most local sports centres offer archery training nowadays? Or is there a good local club? I found mine non-cliquey and easy to go with whatever style you prefer. edited: don't know where I got recumbent from!
