  1. Prince Egbert. PS James is (apparently) a favourite but look what happened the last few times we had a James on the throne! and when does the dynasty* end? if it had been a girl and then when she got married? seriously, I am just wondering this. *not the alexis & krystal variety. edit: apologies nette for ruining your thread.
  2. like I said before when I agreed with Otta - its all a bit dennis the menace. juvenile.
  3. I would find it offensive to insult the staff in any shape or form wherever they were from. make sense?
  4. because its a crap joke/crass comment about staff underpants going into food in an establishment that sells food. I wouldn't want anyone's clothing mixed in with my food no matter what the food was or where the person was from.
  5. just because I am not reading the same into it as some others on here, doesn't mean that I agree with it or NOT find it unfunny and distasteful. and no, I wouldn't feel comfortable with a) and I'd hate to think I'd ever turn into b). and its not just a curry house I'd feel uncomfortable about this either, think thats kind of my point. I'd feel equally unhappy hearing it said for example, in a glasgow chip shop, not just because of the deep-fried connotations either. edited to add the important NOT I missed.
  6. whether he does or doesn't pigeonhole anyone wasn't the point I was/am (badly) trying to make. Fair enough you have found evidence to confirm that he does indeed pigeonhole people but it is: - the fact that people on this thread have read eg. X,Y or Z into his comment here then later confirm that THEY assume he IS white is the moot point. had they not assumed whatever, would they still be making the points they'd made. (argh....dunno if I'm even making any sense, know I shouldn't have logged in this late). edit: night all!
  7. what otta said!!! blimey I was trying to think of a way to say it and couldn't put it better. and strafer, why should uncleben have to confirm or deny whether he is white or not, I think (could be wrong) the point of his later post was that a lot of (possibly) incorrect assumptions had been made about him therefore how much more inaccuracy had been spouted over the underpants comment/intention of comment (again, could be wrong).
  8. woodrot, if you took the time to read the skint foodie's blog, it is very touching indeed. one of my absolute favourite food bloggers - it really is a damn fine read! the one about his favourite local shops is just brilliant, will appeal to anyone who genuinely loves the area.

  10. you could check with the local leisure centre to see if it offers any adult swimmer improver lessons (in groups)? most places have some sort of swim programme for adult learners.
  11. ha! suffice to say, the dismal experience I'd had was with some members* of the venerable curry club in tow. And all three of us dining that evening were of the same opinion. (*one fairly senior in ranking, not the giddy heights of Radiant Chief, but pretty high up all the same!) :)) edit: we were mostly aghast at the rude service. that the food wasn't very pleasant either is more of an aside.

I appreciate that some customers are pretty awful and nothing that staff can do will EVER please them. This wasn't the case here, in fact, we were treated with disdain from the moment we turned up for the table we'd booked. Anyway.
  13. even if formal planning consultation wasn't required, it would have been a decent gesture to go around and speak to the people (your neighbours after all) that would be overlooked, wouldn't it? do sympathise with you rahrahrah, it sounds awful (not nec the design, I mean the fact it feels 'on top of your garden'). only thing is that as much as you feel overlooked by this, doesn't sound like they have privacy either as they too are overlooked (if that makes sense). I'd hate to spend that much money only to feel like I was living in a goldfish bowl!

I think we're going to fall out over > this *narrows eyes* *rolls up sleeves* to be fair, I think I could forgive bad food on occasion and give 'em another chance but I just can't forgive bad service (as well). think the wonderful fred siriex noted similarly, that people are more forgiving of rubbish food than they are of shockingly rude/bad service which for some reason sticks in the memory more. (added to that the fact you've got so many of same to choose from within spitting distance of each other..)
  15. expect a new tranche as 'KERB does Peckham'.
  16. if anyone remembers when certain lyrics from a Pogues song were SEVERELY misconstrued, then that tells you everything you need to bloody know about the knee-jerk-I'm-offended-and-reading-waaaaaay-too-much-into-it goings-on in this thread, over a comment that, I suspect, was an absolutely shit, nay, pathetic attempt at levity. am firmly with otta, d-c, el pibe et al. I was glad when otta asked on page 1 what people were up in arms about because I didn't get it. at all. oh and I feckin hate the Dulwich tandoori (service+food). not many places on my 'hate' list either. edit: meant to say, not that I wish a raid on their premises. must have been very traumatic for all of the staff :(

(btw, no idea how good/bad that place was, think it was shutting down just as I moved to ED).
  18. good to see the heaters were on full blast on the top deck of the 176. travelling by public transport not great at best of times but in this heat + with additional heat = unbearable sales of pimms and cucumbers must be going through the roof! edit: not on the 176 I hasten to add but there's an idea.
  19. Spotted Barry Bear on the 63. Great to see/meet everyone at the amble. Cheers to SJ for organising. Edit: can't post pics! Also BB was spotted outside the Castle yesterday!

What Hibbs said!
  21. Something under the bed is drooling! I loved the sketch with the transmogrifier and Calvin duplicates for taking care of homework so he could go out to play!
  22. Would it be a good idea to make this a 'sticky' to remind everyone of this fine local tradition?

Still think you should come along Foxy, if you enjoy bus journeys so much you can always jump on the 12 from the library. Won't be the first time anyone's done that at a Barry Barry [insert trademark symbol thing] event.
