  1. Currently Uber are conducting tests with a safety driver behind the wheel in London. Uner hopes to do a full trial next year without the safety driver needed in the cars. I personally think its got the potential for mass job loses in the industry, and an example of how a company is changing an industry. It started by pitching itself against small taxi firms by offering lower cost to consumers and when it won a large share of the market, it starts to look at how to reduce its costs even more by removing the driver but not passing those cost savings on to consumers. Are we sacrificing livelihoods for our own convenience? Would you personally use a driverless taxi ?
  2. I wonder if Lambeth will refund all fines generated by it as it was deemed to be implemted illegally? My million quid is on that they won't and another court case or group action claim.
  3. Absolutely doesn't Earl They are pointing out that they pay full council tax No where are they saying they should have a discount Thats all in your head trying to demonise a poster to suit ypur agenda there I read you so called negatives, and the one I loved most was "Congestion from car travel has major economic costs." Replace that with loss of economic growth from the sales of new cars , parts services and associated taxes , should car ownership be reduced to suit the agenda you promote, would be far more costly to the country than the congestion costs you mention.
  4. Blimey Earl. Thats a complete misquote of what CPR Dave actually said, should have gone to specsavers comes to mind 😉
  5. @Sue questions now are out there why you were in the gents at the Bishop? I remember, slightly hazily , the goose and firkin at London Bridge / elephant borders
  6. Don't you just hate that at theaters and cinemas I know food and drink sales help keep ticket prices down but nothing is more off putting then a badly timed crunch of crisps after frantic rattling of plastic.
  7. Sometimes Mal, I do envy whatever you are smoking
  8. That article is 3 years old Possibly not accurate or relevant unless the last 3 years have been a dream, and like Bobby Ewing, i've just woken up in the shower and Boris is still PM
  9. Surly not, just after all the road markings on Barry Road have just been refreshed Now thats the sort of joined up thinking we are discussing
  10. James also tried to keep the focus on the community and keep the council in check
  11. According to an article in the Telegraph this morning, Lambeth had their appeal rejected and according to the article "A Labour council has been ordered to immediately scrap an “unlawful” low-traffic neighbourhood (LTN) after losing a High Court battle." Later the article goes on to say "The West Dulwich Action Group (WDAG), which brought the case after claiming the street closures had increased traffic and pollution on roads bordering the zone, welcomed the ruling and called for the council to repay the £1,080,580 in fines raised through the scheme." As yet not seen anything to collaborate this article so taking it with a pinch of road salt
  12. Interesting https://www.standard.co.uk/news/london-council-leader-steps-down-following-a-damning-report-by-housing-regulator-b1231036.html
  13. it was discussed here a while ago
  14. Shame we don't get to vote who takes over as it impacts us all
  15. No one is disagreeing that they should be done, but not all at the same time is the ask. Still, this is nothing compared to the chaos of the next round of works if Southwark decide to put the bus lanes in on Peckham Rye. I can just believe that won't be quick or at a time that is convenient (school summer holidays would be ideal as fewer bus commuters then) An old adage comes to mind, failing to plan is planning to fail
  16. That will be interesting if Sally does What a good use of what on paper looks like a good site
  17. For what Mal ? If our MP works with the council to spread out roadworks that aren't emergency ones then surly there isn't a cost. After all even these gas works aren't emergency, but planned maintenance, the ones by ED station aren't emergency works, nor are the ones by grove tavern so I can't see a need for a massive cash injection, can you ?
  18. This link.provides the full.articke using an archive site https://archive.is/J8DvF The summary is that the taxes on electricity could be removed but an equivalent levy would then be added to gas to encourage people tonusevheat pumps. Not convinced it would stay like that but it isn't quite as sensational as the headlines
  19. Slowly, junction by junction, East Dulwich is cut off from the outside world and in a matter of weeks becomes the first experimental 10 minute village. In order to stop the masses starving after M&S and the co-op run out of food, the red cross start using air ambulance to drop food parcels in. Despite mass protests, Southwark deemed the experiment a success and replicate it across the borough. Who needs a CPZ or LTN if there is actually no where to go cry the cycling lobby who use the pavements to.get around the road works and bypass the temporary traffic lights all stuck on red. Welcome to carmagedon
  20. Can't help but think you are talking to yourself again Bob
  21. That's not the problem this is trying to fix!
  22. @melbournemarcus you say cars are "stored" for free Aside nornal taxes, including council, income and NI, car drivers pay additional taxes in the form of VED, insurance tax, fuel duty amongst others which all comtribute centrally towards maintaining the inferstructure. On thw other hand cyclists and pedestrians don't pay additional taxes to the same extent. Therefore what justifies your desire to squeeze the pips of vehicle owners even more ? I'm sure you would soon be up in arms if yiur ocado delivery couldn't occur because the cost of driving onto yiur street prohibited it !
  23. I believe its called Parking not storage But possibly the same reason that we can walk or cycle freely down the road.
  24. If you think councils play fair thwn this may open your eyes https://www.brixtonbuzz.com/2025/05/from-unlawful-to-approved-in-48-hours-lambeths-magic-planning-trick-gives-brockwell-live-the-green-light/
  25. This reminds me of "the grasshopper" at Westerham when a tabloid paper did an exposé about their swinger parties (many many years ago) The result was that every man and his dog went there to see if they could get in to a party. Pub did amazing business but think the club may have closed as a result. Bet the Telegraph article will be great publicity for belair sex parties and every pervert under the sun will invade Dulwich village and the square (of shame)
