  1. Today the Government announced the planned early release of prosioners who have served 40% of their sentence. There will be exceptions to safeguard tje public, and the releases will start from Srptember. This is just before the darker months kick in , ideal cover for some criminal activities. I'm all for correct rehabilitation and giving people a chance, but if the system is as broken as they say then will prisoners being released have had enough or the correct rehabilitation or training to give them a chance on the outside. Simply releasing them.early isn't enough, there needs to be improved probation offerings, proper offers of accommodation and work opportunities to allow ex prisoners to have a chance. Obviously there needs to be a solution to over crowding and poor conditions but unless there is a support plan in place then I fear for an increase in crime over the winter months.
  2. If they start adding 2 foot thick blast doors, time to panic remember genisys is skynet....
  3. TfL have opened a consultation on the proposed charges for the Silvertown and Blackwall tunnels https://haveyoursay.tfl.gov.uk/tc-yourview This will obviously have an impact on people living in the south east of London who need to commute to north London by car (and visa versa) plus wider ramifications for those outside of London
  4. March46, looks to me like the railing did what ot was designed to do, protecting pedestrians. The rhetoric that it is a 20mph zone is interesting as that could easily be caused by a lorry or large vehicle clipping it as it turned the corner and unless the actual circumstances of the accident are known then the speed limit is a red herring. Protection like these are normally installed after issues have occurred thete in the past so they are obviously still needed by the looks of them.
  5. There are choices in life Support local, pay a bit more and rediscover the taste of fruit and veg Support supermarkets , pay less and get bland fruit and veg that has a shelf life longer than a Tory PMs career. If you go with the first choice, then choose if you are happy with the displayed price or not. It's a bit like choosing to shop at Borough Market and getting fabulously flavoured treats, or a shopping at Daves Fruit and Veg on the corner of a street in Peckham. Both have their target customers and price accordingly, those with money to burn go one place, normal people to the other but there is a choice and if you feel you are being taken advantage off, simple things to do are 1. Talk to the retailer, it may be genuine mistake or they may need market feedback on pricing points 2. If not satisfied choose to shop elsewhere. The answer isn't to complain on a public forum because you can bet the business isn't focused on the EDF but mote on running their business, paying energy, rates and rent and after staff costs (all of which have gone up over recent years) , possibly making a small profit (which after all is the reason for running a business)
  6. Don't worry, as the new catch phrase of Kier is "it's broken*" then it will be fixed by him 🤣 * regardless of what it is, prisons, NHS, Railways...
  7. There is no problem https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/c7204p2r0dkt?post=asset%3Ad617783f-b844-4e91-b70e-c5565523bb96#post According to Royal Mail.(speculating underpinned by fijitsu)
  8. BBC News - East Dulwich voters still awaiting postal vote https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c849w09535ko Thanks @Harry Low
  9. That's the danger of quoting an "average" It is anything but as different people do different things and using one metric alone to justify things like CPZs or LTNs is flawed
  10. @Rockets did you say that the average commute by car was 7 miles? Doesn't that put in to perspective all those who have been banging on for ages that most car journeys are less rhan 3km ? Obviously there is a happy medium figure but to simply say "ban all cars because on average journeys are within walking or cycling distances" is clearly misleading. London is congested, some people like to cycle and some people need to drive. There needs to be provisions made for both otherwise London will grind to a halt.
  11. @Hen123 @malumbu let's be frank here We all agree that all road users should obey the rules, and those who don't should be prosecuted. Yet constantly you both seem to mutter under your breath that cyclusts are a special category and motorised vehicles are the sole causes of accidents (with the exception of rogue cavalry horses of course) Vehicles, proportionally are more numerous and cover more miles than cyclists so yes, proportionally they will be involved in more accidents, but that doesn't mean cyclist should be above the law now does it? So how would you both ensure all road users obey ALL the rules 🤔 And hen, stop banging you special drum about 95% of car drivers breaking the law, we've got your point but not once have you said how you would enforce the law for all road users, vehicles and cyclists alike.
  12. https://www.instagram.com/reel/C706onctOk-/?igsh=MXBsYTg2YzZrc2ppNg== We need road safety adverts like this for all road users including cyclists on pavements 🤣
  13. Therein lies the problem, cyclist think that when they break the rules it is a trivial violation of the highway code.
  14. Hen123, the point of number plates, isn't to stop accidents but to identify drivers who break the law or don't stop. By that same principle making cyclist carry them, much like motorcyclists have to, won't stop them cycling on pavements or jumping lights but may make them easier to track when they do. So what's not to like about the idea 🤔 or do you think cyclists should be somehow above the law ?
  15. Slight deviation here, but as Synnovis could be found in breech of its data protection duties and lost patient private data, will there be consequences for them and possibility of loosing the contract 🤔 Has anyone who has had their data breached been contacted?
  16. That's very sad, the food and service was always excellent
  17. Anyone know what's happening to good neighbour ? The whole chain seems to have closed, which is a shame as it was always good.
  18. Gets my vote for PM
  19. Possibly right, triggered by one of three things. War in Ukraine turning a nasty corner and Russia launching a limited nuclear strike China deciding to escalate the situation around Taiwan North Korea taking advantage of the world's political instability caused by the two events above On second thoughts, a US president going senile and thinking they are calling the presidential bottom wiper, will accidently press the wrong button 🤔
  20. Obviously the council has a time machine 🤣 Must have paid for it with all the money they make from the CPZ revenue generating machine 😉
  21. What on earth is happening in Europe ?
  22. Loving the escalation of promises that the parties are spouting at the moment. The sound bites are great, todays are more prison places or more funding for mental health but as always the devil is in the detail. How exactly are they going to deliver each election promise? Throwing money at something is the start but then they have to build or train or recruit to make it happen which is where the real work to deliver occurs. Personality i'm taking anything each party says with a huge pinch of salt and then looking at how they will deliver to understand if its achievable or not. For example saying we will fix the NHS by giving it x billion doesn't explain where they will get the staff from to make change happen, Dr's and Nurses can't be trained in a week 😉 so where's the details of the plans behind the soundbites? Regardless the next 4 years, no matter who wins, are going to be hard and interesting.
  23. Whilst Another Annie could even pay all bills by direct debit, the point is that it shouldn't be that hard to get post delivered and what other important documentation is going missing ?
  24. This should have been us in the news BBC News - London set to get first new lido in decades https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c9881wnj97wo
  25. Hopefully that's the case, unless the receiver left specific instructions concerning a safe place (i.e. behind the bins) in which case the receiver is deemed to have accepted the goods and their responsibility if they go missing. Obviously in this case a safe place would be hard to identify but none the less if any instructions were given to leave it if no one is in then responsibility is removed from the company and courier. Equally, I've had cases where a delivery didn't occur and tracking shows it had, only for delivery actually occur a day or days later.
