  1. Can't help wondering if this is part of an elaborate dance to get Johnson back into power to rally the tory voters again. Desperate people do desperate things. BBC News - Simon Clarke's call for Rishi Sunak to go sparks backlash https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-68077142
  2. Lol 3 days a week would actually be an improvement 🤣
  3. Inform the estate agent, in writing so that you have a paper trail, that you expect repairs to be made within 10 days and if they fail in that respect you will be taking them to the small claims court as they are ultimately responsible for the contractors who erected the sign in the first place.
  4. Going green Damned if you do, damned if you don't by the sounds of it. Virgin steel still needs the higher temperatures produced by coke and we are simply offshoring the carbon foot print for it. is it a good thing ? Possibly not but it is an industry trend and hopefully investment and new technologies will be made in alternative virgin steel production that doesn't need coke and can demonstrate a much greater footprint than the blast furnaces may become redundant.
  5. Are you agreeing that the road closure at the Dulwich Village junction is pandering to those in the leafy Borough there Mal ? Certainly feels like it, welcome to the dark side
  6. Mal, this one started as a complaint about a so called weird flyer warning people about a consultation, you seem to have tried to turn it to be one about entitled motorists and no one is falling for your narrative so maybe you're the one posting in the wrong thread. Could be thinking out of the box here, but with so many threads and comments against CPZs on here, maybe just maybe there is merit to listening to residents views snd concerns and not just trying to demonise them as entitled 🤔
  7. Come now Sep TATA Steel.are an Indian owned company and their decision to move to cleaner arc furnaces isn't one that is related to EU directives but environmental reasons. It is very sad that so many are losing their jobs in the industry but TATA are still going to be making steel in the UK using cleaner technologies and with a large multi million cash injection from the government.
  8. How many times have the council been told "No" by residents to a CPZ in and around East Dulwich and yet they still keep on coming back. Begs a question of what their real motive is? (To my memory it's three times so far but I could be wrong)
  9. This thread has turned from.a genuine warning about dogs on Ice, something that is the cause of most human cold water drownings when they go to rescue their dogs, to a modern day villagers vs Franenstiens monster with the edf masses marching through the street screaming for the monstes blood ! 99.99% of us weren't there so speculation and rumours are flying. Guess I need to start a pitchfork business and make some cash whilst the mob gets angry. Incident over, dog safe, no-one or no animals harmed in making of this epic but good initial advice, take care on frozen water 🤔
  10. Fascinating The report said "The poodle cross named Ponzo - believed to be a goldendoodle - was reportedly chasing something" and it has been concluded it was wildlife and not a stick or a ball. Can we establish the actual facts before jumping on the owners 🤔
  11. It's potentially going to get worse BBC News - Ofcom could allow Royal Mail to end Saturday post https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-68041937 Ofcom are quoted as looking at how to "evolve to more closely meet consumer needs" Most consumers now expect deliveries from courier companies 7 days a week not 5 and I am not sure how a 5 day a week, once a day (if you are lucky) is going to meet consumers needs. Sounds like the postal service is in terminal decline and I fear we are watching its death throes over the next few years.
  12. Personally I'm not worried about global warming as NATO are warning us about a potential war with Russia within 10 years and any global warming will get cancelled out by the nuclear winter that results in my opinion 😉
  13. I think point 3 will be difficult as water prices are controlled by ofwat so unless there is a change in legislation the water companies can't charge a variable rate depending on drought conditions. Reducing consumption is a good thing as the population is expanding and pitting more strain on limited reservoirs. Not sure if there will be the potential ability to sell off the ones we have without replacing them. 🤔
  14. As has been pointed out before CPZs don't impact pollution, they just charge you to have your car in the street suppossedly to "alleviate local parking pressures" but they don't stop people driving and may make traffic worse as people then drive to out of town shopping areas where they can park rather than shorter local trips to pick up goods because thete us no local parking. LTNs may reduce traffic in some roads but the expected evaporation hasn't occurred thus adding traffic, delays and pressure to surrounding roads which also increases pollution. There needs to be more joined up and clever thinking, including better public transport and links between public transport rather than tinkering and making things worse.
  15. Thanks Vladi A clear explanation of the issues at Thames, but as underhook.said, none of them point to watermeters being a scandal. I agree its scandalous how water companies are run which is different to installing tools to help us pay proportionally for the water we use.
  16. Seeing the leaflet, the title of this thread is misleading. The leaflet is simply highlighting the two consultations and the authors views on the negative impact of the two schemes. It's no weirder than the council ones which spin the advantages in their opinion. It's always good to have debate and the ability to influence how our council sounds our money in my opinion.
  17. Obvious It's the mating cry of the lesser spotted Essex girl lamenting to suitable males that she's just dropped er chips
  18. Please explain why this is a scandal, I don't get your point of reference
  19. Oh no! Shock horror. Forum member enraged because local does councils job of publicising consultation. Personally, in these days of cash strapped authorities I am pleased that someone is saving the council money 🤣
  20. I think that the introduction, painful as it will be for some, is good An average family of say 5 would consume 5 times more water than the average consumption of a single person so it does even up the costs. Before with a tariff set by the rateable value, there was no real awareness of individual consumption so longer showers, taps left running and other wasteful practices went on unchecked, now there is a consequence in the form of a higher bill. As always, there will be winners and lovers but the playing field will end up fairer as it will be based on actial consumption.
  21. If you remember the saf London of the 70s through 90s you would know how its moved on. The rough edges have become smoother, crime is different and even the old Kent Road feels relatively safe. Riot police love to get dressed up and if the financial crime is related to gangs then sure why not go in fully protected.
  22. Proper south London, like ED has moved on a lot, but let's be honest crime impacts any area, gentrified or not and criminals come in all guises so a raid on a house could be anything from drugs to murder to financial crime related so no point speculating.
  23. Thanks Snowy Can you put a reference to the source of this table as I can't work out if its the Tom Tom report or a TfL one ?
