  1. The concept that paying a fee to park will stop you driving is frankly ludicrous, if a driver has the choice between paying a small fortune to have a car outside their house all day plus cost of public transport vs driving the same car to a free car park at work (for example) then it's a no brainer which they choose and the cost of a CPZ hasn't then detered them from choosing alternative transport and encouraged them to drive more. Equally for a lot of people, especially outside of the center of London, a car is the only viable form of transport available and whilst, as Mal likes to harbinger on about, it's a big expense it is not always a luxury so additional costs of ownership (parking, tolls, congestion charges) don't discourage but do remove family funding from much needed areas (food, clothes... ) It's about time local authorities and government stopped seeing car drivers as a source of income and had grown up conversations about what is needed to help people become less reliable on cars. All that is occurring at the moment is resentment and the feeling that a car is a cash cow for authorities to milk.
  2. It has to be a Southwark consultation hub for future changes to "the square" as that's a full time occupation for that team... 😀
  3. Regardless of the reason, it's sad if they have gone
  4. Obviously one thing we are lacking is another DIY / trade tools type place. I mean we only have Toolstation, screwfix, Dulwich DIY, Plough, Shaun's and Leyland and there is so much improvement that needs to occur locally (not forgetting Labro in nunhead of course) . Stroll on homepage or wicks or b&q (lol did you know there is a " Be in queue" in Peckham? )
  5. Are you saying they are closing down, relocating or something else? Your post really isn't clear and their website doesn't add any explanation.
  6. Explain more, their website shows them as still open but phone lines down
  7. Bmx track ?
  8. Pavement parking is a ticketing incident across London, Unfortunately if your vehicle won't quite fit a space without infringing the pavement then the only choice is to use a different parking spot. Not always easy in a busy area. Personally I think you would be unsuccessful at appeal as the Warden will have photographed your vehicle being partially on the pavement and not fitting the parking spot isn't a defence. Good luck trying
  9. I'm all for cutting the cloth to suit your means but can't help feeling this is a mistake as it would have kept us at the forefront of emerging technologies. BBC News - Government shelves £1.3bn UK tech and AI plans - BBC News https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cyx5x44vnyeo
  10. It's actually starting to get BORAing 🤣
  11. There's a huge park almost on top of the square that can be used for that sort of thing 🤣
  12. It does seem a rather large sum of money to add more space to an area overflowing with space. Could that money have been used elsewhere to make improvements? It does feel like there is a vested interest in the works going ahead rather than forensically examine cost vs benefit. But what do I know, I'm only a tax payer
  13. Count Binface ?
  14. Angelina and DiD What are your goals posting on this thread? Do you want to see Bora closed down, the unit become vacant and unrented only for the landlord to let another charity fill a space on our high street? Then what, go after William Rose the ice cream parlor and a few others until we have a desolate unvisitable high street because all you can buy will be coffee and charity (over exaggerating to make a point) If you have an issue with Bora, tell them, otherwise leave independents alone to thrive and enhance our high street. When I was younger, so much younger than today, my local high street had 5 greengrocers in it, which the supermarkets killed when they opened up. Sadly missed as they provided a variety of different tasty goods, advice and a hub for the elderly to visit daily for a little chat (about price of carrots, best way to cook xyz or what's good and in season) Sadly we seem to have lost community spirit and some of us want bland supermarket goods, despite the issues it causes our farmers and the countryside. Guess next you will go after the gift shops because amazon does it so much cheaper (here's to you Mrs Robinson, amazon wants to close you more than you will know, whoa whoa whoa) East Dulwich is great because it is mostly independent and eclectic so why make it difficult for our lovely businesses to survive?
  15. Looking at the photos 1. They have fruit and veg out on their forecourt and leaving the pavement free, this is allowed as the forecourt is part of the shop frontage 2. The cover is above the paved area, providing a clear passageway through for pedestrians and wheelchair users. Nobody is being denied passage or access. 3. Nobody is being harmed by them protecting the fruit from direct sun,and it may well help their environmental impact by fruit not going off and being wasted. 4. If you feel strongly about it, go talk to the owners, complaining on social media will get you vitriol and sarcastic comments in return as it is really to hot to be ar$ed to be petty.
  16. You could always go look for yourself, then make an educated post on social media if it does or satisfy yourself that it doesn't if there is enough room for mobility challenged pedestrians.
  17. Personally, good wishes to Robert on his venture, he has got off his derrière, found potentially a niche market and hopefully doesn't give a jott about sofa surfers nitpicking comments. Setting up a new business is tough and we should be supporting him, not trying to rip his legs out from under him. If you think you can do better for less and still make a living then go into competition against him. 🤔
  18. Sensationalism headlines "Blood thirsty crows", who are in reality parents protecting their nest and young
  19. Lazy hazy crazy ales of summer ?
  20. That's excellent Hope it goes well.for him
  21. Blimey Someone standing on a single issue locally has generated a lot of conversation around it. Maybe not winning has given them as much publicity of the issue as they would have got by winning.
  22. It is a problem that will restrict people on the NE / E / SE and further afield getting across the Thames, (Dartford, Silvertown and Blackwall crossings all charging) which isn't the samw for people crossing to the west of London A side effect could be worse traffic on thw M25 as people choose to go around via Heathrow rather than the East side or going through other parts of London where its free to cross the river (congestion charge not whithstanding) due to charges. My personal opinion is it is short sighted of the Mayor and will cause more issues than the new Silvertown tunnel solves.
  23. Correct, but the conspiracy theories around it were what I was drawing attention from.
  24. Blimey The conspiracy theories on here would make x/twitter proud. Maybe it is simply a scam that is used elsewhere and we are all reading to much in to it. But if you want conspiracy theory then it's Trump using it to wind up people about the current president so that they vote to reopen the investigation into the fact no one has ever stepped foot in the moon because that's where ufos come from and they are driven by the soup dragon 🙄
