  1. The expression "why have a dog and bark yourself" comes to mind. We all pay council tax so that Southwark provide services like leaf clearing and street sweeping. Whilst it's easy to do it ourselves, if it's not reported to the council they won't know there's a problem hot spot and won't assign resources to it in the future.
  2. This is the pdf version of the plan. https://consultations.southwark.gov.uk/environment-leisure/ivanhoe-road-safety-improvements/supporting_documents/LBSMWIVANHOE_RD900110001%20revC%20master%20plan%20091221.pdf First impressions are 1. The planting on the corner of Malfort Road will obstruct the vision of cyclists and cars turning out of Malfort Road onto Ivanhoe Road and is an accident waiting to happen. 2. The junction at Avondale Rise will be set back obscuring the sightlines for cyclists and cars trying to exit Avondale Rose onto Ivanhoe Road again creating the potential for an accident to happen (compounded by trees planted directly in the sightlines along Ivanhoe Road) I have to question the safety factor of this proposal as it makes the exits from two roads potentially more dangerous by restricting sight lines. It feels like someone has designed this without actually visiting the site to see what impact it will have on exiting the junctions.
  3. Today Elon announced that to have a blue verification tick, which was previously free, users will have to pay a monthly fee. Will current blue tick users take it up or will they let their blue ticks expire thus making it harder to identify they are who they say they are. Is this the thin end of the wedge that may eventually push users to the next free social media tool? Remember the lessons from tools like friends reunited that fell to the wayside when the next free fad sicial media platfirm came along. Guess it's something to watch and see but I'm curious to see what others predict will happen.
  4. Best quote of the day Dave "PUDDING HEADED PLANNING" made me laugh 😃
  5. Fee due on both days once when they enter, once when they leave and also once for every day that they drive in the ULEZ zone.
  6. Just been driven back from Surrey and lime bikes are dotted all over pavements along the route, some in clusters of 4 to 6 blocking the pavements. It's not just here that it's happening and feedback to the trial should state they shouldn't be abandoned outside of specific drop points or blocking pavements for pedestrians, buggy and wheel chair users.
  7. Am I alone in getting frustrated with the BBC News app which has breaking news every Sunday morning, whom Laura is interviewing later! Whilst it's interesting if you want to see it, it's hardly news or breaking news Hundreds of South Koreans dead or injured last night is, but the BBC seem to use their news app to advertise upcoming programs. Grump grump grump ☹️
  8. This year is unusual Last week was Diwali, festival of lights (and celebrated with fireworks) and then in few days its Guy Fawkes night again celebrated with fireworks I understand the stress it causes to animals, goldie my fish hates it, but to propose a NFN is really pushing the nanny state envelope IMHO. What next, no walking on the cracks on the pavement in case the lines (or is ir lions) get you ? No whistling happy tunes? Are we in the Republic of Gilead akready?
  9. It's per day that they actually drive in the ULEZ zone, no charge if their car doesn't move on any given day
  10. They are, but that doesn't stop people or accidents
  11. That's a bit like MTV used to run a competition to work out what the lyrics of give it away by the red hot chilli peppers were Ruined by lyric websites
  12. bada-bing bada-boom (literally)
  13. In respect of accidents Billy, I did read somewhere the percentage of accidents on unlicensed scooters compared to the trial ones is unacceptably high. The unlicensed ones are not restricted speed wise, may not be so robust and aren't tracked to ensure they are used only on the road nor do they have identification plates so unfortunately they aren't always driven by those with licences or as much caution as those on licenced scooters. Not sure how the private use of scooters will be managed but there needs to be robust rules and enforcement of bad usage in place when tje trial is over.
  14. BBC News - London's e-scooter hire trial extended until 2023 https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-63411133 Interesting to see the number of accidents have increased.
  15. Guess they will have a "smashing" time when they need to Joking aside, good question.
  16. Talking to yourself again Billy? You really can't seem to agree with yourself let alone anyone else 😂
  17. To be honest, I can't see any politican actually really wanting the job as its got to be a poison chalice. If they are made PM it will be for a maximum of 2 years (Jan 2025) before having to go back to the country to decide who is in charge. That's liable to be a decisive vote to change government unless we go to war in the Falklands again 🤫 Equally the opposition parties will be calling for a GE every week for those two years. The economy, both here and world wide is (technical term) flucked and will take the end of the Ukraine situation to start to improve and whilst there can be tinkering at the edges by whoever is in power, governments will struggle to solve it. As history has shown, parties in charge during a financial crisis aren't viewed well the next general election. The SNP will argue for all that time that the next GE should be a vote of independence so that will be a constant thorn in any leaders side. So back to two years of poisoned chalice, who ever is the next leader of the tories will be there for a maximum of 2 years before being out of power for a minimum of 5 years so potential contenders may well wait till after the next GE to stand up for leader. It wouldn't surprise me that, after the Summer fiasco, Rishi may well bide his time until after the next GE to be leader of the Tories and we could well see a lame horse race to be leader this time around.
  18. Loved this yesterday
  19. Whilst speeding should be enforced, it should be enforced by the police and not local councils who then keep the fine. It encourages councils to treat cars and drivers as cash machines rather then enforcing to stop it happening again. As the council won't be allowed to add penalty points then it's hardly a deterrent as points add up and remove dangerous drivers.
  20. Whilst it's slightly off topic, this is a worrying development BBC News - Speeding drivers to be fined by Wandsworth Council https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-63322848 Anyone convinced that councils don't see drivers as mobile cash machines is delusional in my opinion.
  21. Well I guess The New Chancellor has answered my question. Virtually everything has been reversed including the two year energy support package. The only things that survived are the cut to stamp duty and the NI increase. And I don't they are safe either. Looks like it's going to be a bumpy ride for everyone now and a possible return to austerity to pay for Ukraine and covid. Fingers crossed it helps control inflation.
  22. Hi Joe Strange one, received a private message and after reading it all previous private messages from the old forum appeared and show up as unread Is there a bulk read option ?
  23. Guessing it's not going to get better anytime soon BBC News - Royal Mail to axe up to 10,000 jobs as losses rise https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-63253687
