  1. Ex People aren't using it simply because to get to it they have to slog up hills either side It's not a case of cyclists wanting to use it but it's dangerous, it's a genuine concern that even when installed they still won't use it unless they have the legs of the incredible hulk to get up the hills to get to it. As I suggested earlier, other schemes may benefit cycling more
  2. That depends on multiple factors with age being one. Most older folk don't do online banking or don't trust it so for them a branch is essential. For me, I recently got sent a refund cheque which sat there for 6 weeks till I had justification to go to a centre where my bank branch was as the costs associated with travelling (be it bus or car) made it expensive to deposit a small cheque. The issue with closing all branches is that it alienates portions of the public who need a physical bank the most and makes it harder for those who do want to visit a branch to do so as there are no longer local branches !
  3. No one is objecting, they are simply questioning if it is a justified scheme giving how many cyclists actually use the route. If it's not justified then the money could be better spent elsewhere.
  4. My question relates to the simple point that if cyclists don't use it, will a cycle lane be good value for money ? As said, I can see the need in some traffic calming, but is there justification for a cycle lane? A slightly more expensive, but possibly ground breaking could be to reopen the old train tunnels under Sydenham Hill and make them cycle and walking highways, allowing cyclists to avoid the hills to get to the other side of Crystal Palace.
  5. Maybe, like the traffic, he hoped the report would evaporate away. Oh hang on, the traffic didn't either... It does raise the question of what a Freedom of Infornatiom request on the LTN schemes would reveal ?
  6. I'm curious, with the big hills leading up to Sydenham Hill, is it popular with cyclists up there ? Traffic calming is possibly needed which is independent of my question.
  7. And no reply from rx3 after being presented with concrete evidence Typical lack of response akin to an ostrich burying it's head in the sand
  8. I belive this is the report you require https://drive.google.com/file/d/1VhHc02WXeovZL02aXi0iLWssPdgcuSiy/view?s=09
  9. As long as they weren't flying it I would have no problems Unless of course one of them was Joe90 https://securityhazard.files.wordpress.com/2016/10/780full-joe-90-screenshot.jpg
  10. From: Community Engagement <[email protected]> Date: 21/07/2022 13:18 (GMT+00:00) To: Community Engagement <[email protected]> Subject: Trial Street Market on Melbourne Grove to start 10th September Dear residents and businesses, Earlier this year you responded to a survey about a proposal to pilot a street market on Melbourne Grove, near the junction with Grove Vale. Thank you to all of you who made suggestions. We are pleased to inform you that this trial will now be going ahead, starting on Saturday 10th September and running through until late December. During this trial period we will invite a number of market operators to run the market on successive weeks, providing a range of stalls from arts and crafts to fresh food. This will help us find out what the local community wants and needs from a market. The market will run every Saturday from 10am until 4pm, and will have no more than 12 stalls. Please be assured that market operators will be expected to keep the area clean and keep any disturbance to a minimum. In response to your feedback, the market will not include hot food vendors. We are also in discussion with the operators and council parking managers about minimising the disruption to local parking. We hope that the new market will become a positive part of the local community, and bring new visitors to support local shops and businesses. We will be reviewing the impact of the market at the end of the trial period – and you can tell us throughout about your experiences, and anything else we should consider, by writing to [email protected] or by post to Lisa York, Markets and Street Trading Manager : 47-53 Dawes Street (SAST House) London SE17 1EL. Kind regards, Jonathan Hamston (on behalf of the Markets and Street Trading Team)
  11. Interesting issue as some banking apps (Santander for one) don't have the facility to scan cheques so you are forced to either go to a branch or request a paying in slip to be sent to you and then pay in via the post office... sheer madness 😠
  12. Possibly devolved powers from the DVLA https://insidedvla.blog.gov.uk/2021/06/29/dvla-working-with-local-authorities-and-police-services-to-take-action-on-unlicensed-vehicles/ But it's my speculation over what they could be doing as just checking where a car owner lives is potentially a misuse of their contract with the DVLA unless they are seeking enforcement action against the car and driver It's the same principle why police can't randomly search their database for friends or family without just cause.
  13. I think, that if your assumption is correct, then it's a clear breech of GDPR rules as the council have not got a legal reason to do so (legal reasons include enforcing parking infringements, moving traffic violation ...) Just seeing where a car owner lives without a legal reason could get them into hot water. I wonder if there's a different reason, for example checking MOT and TAX status?
  14. BBC News - ULEZ expanded zone has had limited impact so far, TfL report says https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-62224609 Interesting reading and almost supports not expanding the ULEZ
  15. Maybe put yourself in an elders shoes who don't use technology the same way we do
  16. There's a report on the London BBC website today that says Southwark will not exclude pupils for bad behaviour unless they put another child's safety at risk. BBC News - Southwark schools agree not to exclude students https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-62213675 I'm in two minds over this, whilst it removes potential education disruption for the pupil who would have been expelled, especially if it's caused by learning difficulties, autism or ADHD, but it could lead to disruption to other pupils and also give further incentive to pupils to misbehave because nothing of consequence will happen to them. I wonder how the disruptive pupils will fare in the work environment after?
  17. Has Southwark announced a temporary suspension of refuse and recycling collections in this heat ? Personally I would hope they have
  18. It happens a lot over various things Sadly fact and fiction often combine but then people cross the two over and fiction becomes fact in echo Chambers everywhere. Learning to listen to or read the facts and making an informed decision is a skill worth learning regardless of the subject rather then taking what someone says or writes as gospel.

  20. I'm still waiting for the first hosepipe bans
  21. How many banks will that leave in East Dulwich ? (Not including the post office)
  22. Todays figures 3.5 million cases were recorded in the week to 6 July, up from 2.7 million the week before Yet mask wearing is still not mandated on public transport, in shops or in all areas in hospitals ... sheer madness and its adding a massive strain to the NHS where staff are off sick with it and a heatwave is adding to admissions... Is there anyone in charge looking at this ?
  23. Has anyone noticed how much harder it is to get an uber back to ED from the West End. They constantly accept your ride then cancel when a better trip comes up for them, the price rises randomly and often when one accepts, due to road restrictions, they can take 10 to 15 minutes to find you. I've actually started to use black cabs in central London again because their price is fixed (not demand based) and often they are right there when you need one. Horses for courses and it still feels stately arriving home in one (even if you're not in a good state yourself 😅)
  24. Whoo hoo party at the Hornimans Joking aside they are a deserving winner as its such a fab museum
  25. Yes, how dare they ride a bike, how dare they not pollute, how dare they not risk pedestrians lives by speeding around in a 2t lump of metal I think the point is, Redpost, that cyclists at the square can be equally as dangerous
