Came across this today which asks are Electric Cars the next "diesel scandal" ? http://a.msn.com/08/en-gb/AATxAda?ocid=se Makes some interesting points, not convinced by it but an interesting proposition.

This was on the BBC London website today BBC News - London postman blames Royal Mail delays on depot backlogs https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-60263728

Ah redpost But the issue is that a proposed pay per mile system will replace Fuel duty and VAT on fuel so that the treasury still gets its pound of flesh from motorists Then an additional 5% will be added as VAT on electricity used to charge the car Hence my point about double taxation
-
If there's any doubt about how motorists are seen as cash cows then this article on the BBC news may be interesting BBC News - Fuel and excise duty must be replaced with new tax, MPs say https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-60251046 It did make me wonder that if everyone walked or cycled then how would the shortfall in taxes be made up as it won't come from cars ? There's also a question in mind that if everyone gets electric cars then the government will get VAT on electricity plus under this proposal a payment per mile driven thus taxing drivers twice 🙄

Are you the "boy in a bubble" ? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Boy_in_the_Plastic_Bubble It may be okay for some but not everyone

As it's a global issue (oil and gas prices) it wouldn't have mattered if we went into a lockdown or not as most of the world did. Blaming the people who wanted a lockdown isn't going to help. It's not an easy fix as global multinationals are putting their prices up to meet demand (there isn't a shortage of raw products) and the wholesale global market needs to be tackled rather than individual governments trying to put a sticking plaster on it. Maybe there needs to be a global collection of governments working together to garner the wholesalers into better prices.

Doh ... you're right 😱

Of course they do but can you imagine the title if I included everyone e.g It's going to be tough on families, single people, pensioners, war heroes, non binary people and the general unwashed? 🤔 The title was generic but I forgot how people like to nit pick on here. 🤣

Today we saw two increases to family spending: A 54% rise in the energy price cap A .25% rise in interest rates Both fuelled by a global bounce back from the pandemic and the Bank of England are predicting inflation of around 7% It's going to be tough on so many people and despite the chancellor giving us council tax rebates in April plus a ?200 "loan" in November it's going to squeeze a lot of family budgets Let's wait to see how much our council tax bills rise in April to put the icing on the cake. We're doomed Captain Mainwearing, we're doomed

Love this as it's so apt and the original advert was shot on North Cross Road -

Interestingly the changes to the highway code now gives her priority over cars Madness -
Could this be the beginning of the end ? BBC News - London's walking and cycling schemes could lose out in TfL cuts https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-60221161

The major operators of e-scooters are looking at generating a universal warning sound to alert people to their presence. https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2022/jan/28/e-scooter-firms-to-develop-universal-warning-sound-after-collisions For Friday fun what would you implement as the sound ? My suggestion is a loud beep followed by a voice screaming "watch out idiot on a scooter" This of course should be repeated over and over. To assist deaf people the rider should also wear a helmet with a flashing (rotating) pink light on top to really make the rider to and e-scooter stand out. But that's just my idea....

Out of curiosity, the investigation may have two results 1. BJ leaves downing street either via resignation or vote of no confidence 2. He survives and continues as PM till the next election If option 1 will this thread die a natural cause unless his replacement is worse ? If option 2 will this thread continue up to the next election ? Either way we should find out in the week or so. DR You raise an interesting point that Cummings seems to be making the government dance do his tune at the moment which distracts from other important things. Makes you question who really runs a country, the elected leader or people in the background ?

Southwark Labour councilors door to door visits
Spartacus replied to trinidad's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Will be interesting to see if they visit roads inside or outside LTNs to gather support for the schemes Inside may well be positive, outside negative support 🤔 But that's an assumption on my behalf -

This thread is more and more like a cesspit at the moment whilst the newly bionic foxy is running to the EDT in new world record times.

If I'm using this website correctly, the roadworks are due to finish on the 25th http://public.londonworks.gov.uk/roadworks/?x=m5ZVvhtXKXzdOHPiCu18bg -
Rockets Possibly all 4 The closure of our local delivery office in Sylvester Road obviously provided the potential to "optimise" the service by combining it with Peckham. (Read that as you will but in a merger duplicate roles often vanish) Same number of physical posties I suspect but either reduced other staff or more being done in a confined area. Peckham was never a great place to go to collect mail prior to the merger so I guess the effect of merging has a big impact. In a confined space, one sneeze and everyone gets sick so it's obvious that the closure is partially to blame but covid absences are also to blame. Guess without opening a new local office or relocating peckham into a bigger facility then there may well be Sweet Fanny Adams that can be done to improve services during a pandemic.
