  1. Here's a question If a delivery company screws up your order and you claim a refund. Who takes the hit, the delivery company or the restaurant?

I don't think they have, from discussions with friends the fear of this going nuclear is scaring the cr@p out of most of them. Sydney's now deleted post asked why we are involved as we don't have a dog in the fight. The concept is that if many countries can help stop Ukraine from being taken then it will also prevent more countries bring invaded. It's akin to the question "what if Hitier was prevented from taking Poland?" Could ww2 have been contained or thwarted before it really started ? People are concerned but apart from protesting, taking in refugees from Ukraine, the real way to help is what is already being done by many countries, supplying defensive weapons, economic sanctions and weaning away from any dependency on Russia. More can be done to "sting" the bear I'm sure but I'm guessing measured steps are the way and seeing what each step brings (good or bad) before the next one is better then running head long into doing everything and realising that half the effort would have achieved the same. Regardless it will take decades (at least) before any nation trusts Russia again which is sad for the Russian people as they will be the ones who suffer sanctions and financial hardships due to the ambitions of one man.
  3. Over the past week, I've noticed a lot more heavy vehicles (lorries and big soil transporters) coming out of the side roads down from Barry Road onto Lordship Lane. It's possibly due to the road works at the corner of Peckham Rye / East Dulwich Road but strikes me as dangerous as the side roads aren't wide enough for such heavy vehicles and pedestrians wouldn't expect them. Are others noticing the same?
  4. It's going to be interesting to see the actual results
  5. Interesting question. If it was a case of landlords exercising their right to close due to either previous incidents or fear of damage and trouble and or the police asking them to close, then what are forumites proposing should happen ? Or are we all metaphorically muttering into our pints by discussing it on here ? Ultimately it shouldn't really happen but for reasons we as non publicans or police may not understand or agree with, it does.
  6. CPR Dave It does raise a question over this thread on the same day too /forum/read.php?5,2272638,2273166#msg-2273166
  7. Whilst this is a divergence from tje topic of this thread, this article shows how food manufacturers sometimes try and wiggle out of legislation that's being introduced to curb obesity BBC News - Kellogg's in court battle over new rules for high-sugar cereals https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-61238630

  9. BBC News - Lab-grown meat and insects 'good for planet and health' https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-61182294 Whilst I get the environmental impact of changing from animal to lab grown meats, knowing how much rubbish* is added by the food industry to processed foods, could we trust them to supply lab grown meat without it being adulterated ? * preservatives, hidden fats and sugars, colouring and flavouring

  11. I read this week that if you want to aid germination put then somewhere that keeps the bottom of the seed tray warm including but not limited to , on top of the fridge freezer

Sad thing is, we should be training the young in programming rather then outsourcing or importing labour. Isn't it better to have home grown talent?
  17. Best to look up for each individual seed type Plus if they are old they may take longer or not germinate at all Be thankful, my potting compost is also growing toadstalls this year 😁
  18. diable rouge Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Bring back commas!... Oops my mistake But the comment about cooking and eating better still stands on it's own. Delivery companies are adding to the obesity crisis by making it easier to order food that could be considered less healthy
  19. Ken, is kid talking correctly for you here ? It's how I interpreted your comment 😃
  20. I think that one of the concerns of flying is that the emissions occur higher up in the atmosphere where they have other impacts (this report explains the thinking https://www.carbonbrief.org/guest-post-calculating-the-true-climate-impact-of-aviation-emissions) It appears that the overall effect of flying has a bigger impact than the 2.8% identified in 2018. Yes, aircraft design changes are coming but electric planes won't be able to replicate the speed of a jet engined plane as we don't have that technology yet (it's why Jets superseded propeller planes) so we may have to accept increases in trip times to be truly green
  21. Companies like deliveroo and Just eat charge the business a massive amount to list them , host their menus and deliver yet pay peanuts to the delivery guys and girls Basically creaming off profits from local businesses just because it's easier for the consumer to use an app then loom up the business on their own website and call up to order. As Foxy said, it's better for the business to order direct and even better if they have their own people to deliver or you collect. Hopefully now the worst ( ? ) Of the pandemic is over people will return to going out and not relying on delivery services as a friend who owned a restaurant described them " they are just parasites" although like Ken points out, not using delivery services possibly means you are cooking and eating better.

  23. Go onto the Southwark planning portal and search for Barry parade, it will be the first one to pop up Interesting issue is that they are proposing a loading bay for two retail units along the parking bays where the bus stop is on Barry Road. Quote DELIVERY AND SERVICING 4.5.1 As part of the previous application (18-AP-2238), it was agreed with LBS to amend the kerbside arrangements on Barry Road, by converting the existing parking bay north of the bus border into a loading bay. The suggested restrictions for this loading bay were ?Loading Only 7am to 10am, Max Stay 40 minutes, no return within two hours?. 4.5.2 The amendments also required the existing double yellow lines ?no waiting at any time? restrictions at the southern kerb of the Barry Road / Peckham Rye to be extended 4.5m to the southwest to prevent multiple vehicles using the loading bay, which would subsequently improve access for buses trying to turn into Barry Road. 4.5.3 For completeness, a copy of the on-street arrangement previously agreed with LBS is provided at Appendix D. 4.5.4 It is proposed to retain the agreed servicing arrangement for the proposed development. The agreed servicing strategy involved the use of the amended loading bay on Barry Road, which is suitably located in order to minimise transfer distances to the entry points to the ground floor commercial units. 4.5.5 Where required within the commercial units, roll cages and trolleys will be stored internally, with goods being delivered directly to the appropriate units - an approach which was acknowledged as being acceptable within paragraph 48 of the LBS officer?s report in response to the previous application. 4.5.6 In order to deliver this proposal, the Applicant would help fund a proportionate contribution towards an amendment to the Traffic Management Order which is anticipated to be incorporated within the Section 106 agreement. Unquote Now I'm not an expert but a bus at the stop and a lorry parked up outside the parade will create a hazard for cyclists and cars trying to get passed. Not a practical or safe solution in my mind
  24. Fine Especially when asking a Loved one about a situation because you damn well know it's not and will be brought up later when you least expect it, But dear reader, don't worry I'm "fine"
