So dismissing the lack of customers as a result of business model bring disrupted by a global pandemic is laughable Another example is the rash decision to exclude busses from Rye Lane where some traders are experiencing similar issues as customers are going to locations where they can get to via public transport with ease.

There was a system near Hamburg airport which acted as a middle lane to relive traffic pressure In the morning it operated in one direction, then for half an hour after lunch it closed and reopened in the opposite direction so it acted as a tidal flow for the peak traffic Abe's concept isn't far wrong with a tidal system for buses so that in the morning a 1am till 2pm bus lane towards central London could operate and cars have to use the central tidal flow lane only, with the evening switching to a 3pm till midnight bus lane operating out from central London and cars going the opposite way in the tidal flow lane. Downside is most British drivers would get confused and complain about bus lane fines but in narrowish roads I could see it working. But then again I'm not a council highways engineer so what do I know !

You're right rah x3, but nor is cycling They are both part of a wider solution that also needs massive public transport investment and that's the crux of this problem. No one is willing to commit to massive investment so the cheapest and quickest idea is implemented which just won't tempt people our of cars but does tick the "we're trying" box. Maybe there needs to be some sort of public private push which was how the UK rail networks were built. But not in the same way we privatised the railways where profits are the goal to running a franchise, more of a you build it and run it and the government will clear all red tape to make it happen style of approach. But that's just one possibility out if many.

Billy, the real issue is that people won't give up cars unless there are viable alternative services, as highlighted by heart block. The improvement to public transport needs to be either before or in parallel to reducing car usage. It's not acceptable to give up something that currently works for something that just isn't there, within a short time people will revert. So saying give up your car and buses will run faster isn't the right way. However saying there's more buses so it's easier to give up your car is. As a couple of observations, during school holidays when buses are on emptier roads, they don't run faster or more frequently as "this bus is being held to regulate the service" And Unicorn farts are the worst for pollution, stop using your flying chariot for Grud's sake and be environmentally responsible 😱

Amazing, you are so blinkered that you take a quote and twist it But to put it in hill billy talk for you The local authority need to be on top of all transport issues (be it reduced train services, bus issues ...) and , for example, adjust their policies around road networks to ensure people and goods keep moving. Equally they need to be able to put pressure on other transport providers to ensure an area that already has a low PTAL score isn't impacted. Yet as we've seen when the no 40 was diverted from London bridge, despite local outcry the council did nothing to support their residents and the change occurs. It's not about training drivers, but by representing the area, some changes may not occur when they are proposed.
