  2. I'm very confused here, and it's a genuine confusion which I need clarity on. Are you objecting to the use of any three word phrase that has "matters" at the end or do you really feel that people will confuse it for the BLM slogan ? Is it due to the use of "all" at the beginning, which was a genuine issue when it was used with lives matter? Because it's seen to take away from the important issues that are affecting black lives in a bad way, and which need to be addressed The analogy you use isn't quite the same as if someone used "lest we forget" for carrier bags then it's a direct use of the phrase , but in this case are you saying that using "bags you forget" (just keeping the last word the same) would be an issue?. I'm not trying to stir things but confused by why exactly a three word phrase ending in matter is creating a storm , but also want clarity on what expressions you think are and aren't acceptable in the support of equal air quality for all ?

As Sephiroth said above, the mixing and potential to disseminate a new vaccine resistant variant around the world is the issue Not how well Japan has kept it under control in the past, the Olympics could have the potential to undo all the good work done by our vaccination program and lock down to date !
  4. Given the current global Covid situation, with places like India experiencing a variant of concern and even Japan being forced into a further measured approach, should the Olympics be postponed again? My personal thoughts is another years delay is highly sensible.
  5. I love the adverts that say they can make the grid greener, more efficient and so on, but in small print it says "requires changes by the consumer" A smart meter only makes it smarter for the billing department and not the consumer, it doesn't switch off devices when not in use, only tells you how much energy you are using. The risk is that in the future we won't have fiat rate tariffs but that companies can vary the cost during peak periods thus making bills more variable and potential punish consumers who work and use more power during peak times in the evening as they can see what times of day your consumption is !

  7. There's no joined up travel connections on Rye Lane now, zero chance for the disabled or elderly to shop on it as they can't get there by bus. The Lane should be reopened to buses at a minimum ! Not everyone can walk or cycle and it's discrimination against the disabled and elderly.
  8. I thought the interview with the conservative lady on BBC this morning was interesting When she was asked if cronyism was having an effect, she responded that people were voting on local issues not national as they've spent the last year locally so things like overhanging trees are more important (I briefly caught it so it's not a verbatim quote) It's what local elections should all be about our local councillors would do well to listen to that advice 🤔
  9. I'm disappointed Came onto this thread thinking it was a knitwear discussion. Oh well, guess I was fishing for something different !

  12. BooHoo, in 20 years time we will all be driving electric cars, so children's lungs and their health won't be effected But at the moment, elderly, disabled and other lives are being made difficult with areas now no go zones to them because walking and cycling isn't an option. LTNs aren't working as they push pollution away to other streets whilst making a privileged few feel smug in their Lycra 🤔
  13. Possibly / hopefully a short lived role !
  14. Whilst you are right heart block, by not voting labour for mayor or gla membership it may well send a message to local councillors that they might need to rethink their stance. Count binface is as good as any for a protest vote (or second preference protest vote) IMHO

  17. Whilst I don't disagree with closing north cross road , there aren't enough eating establishments along there to make it viable Now if you also closed some shops and make them cafes / bars / restaurants then totally feasible
  18. Maybe as a borough rahrahrah, that's true with virtually no car ownership in the north part and possibly multiple cars per house in the south. But if you break it down to areas then around here the percentage would be closer to 80 or 90% as we aren't in central London nor do we have as much public transport Quoting a figure of 40% for a whole borough is misleading when it comes to local Dulwich issues.

  20. Nigelo How do you know it's not a must or in the case of disabled and elderly, the only option I agree school runners are part of the problem but there needs to be a consultation where the council actually pays attention to the residents and not just lip service. The people have a long memory and next May isn't far away 🤔
  21. It's hip to Mayor. That's sold it for me 😎
  22. Following on from my last post here, with the warning, there's a increase in people trying to get here from India before Friday. BBC News - Heathrow refuses to allow extra flights from India https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-56837107 Hardly a surprise to anyone with half a brain cell, but at what risk of more variants arriving?

Could be an interesting case against councils for increasing pollution by trying "badly" to reduce it.
  24. All this evidence should be used to discuss the situation with the council when they do their consultation on the LTNs !
