I agree It was a historical moment that will forever be etched on my mind. Especially well done during this pandemic where a full state style funeral isn't possible.

Whilst this relates to Crystal Palace, the narrative seems very familiar.

India has just been added to the red list (hotel quarantine required when entering the UK from India) But restrictions come into force Friday at 4am Why are they not immediate ? If people are travelling back then they could be carrying the new double variant, the variant won't be saying "okay I'll wait till Friday to infect people" I just don't understand why warning is given of the new restrictions.

Wifi Booster ? Any advice/experience ?
Spartacus replied to intexasatthe moment's topic in The Lounge
I would recommend a mesh (as shown by the cat) over a repeater The repeater will set up a second Wi-Fi network so as you move from one section to the next you will need to reconnect to each network (most devices do it seamlessly but sometimes they try to retain the weaker signal) so it's not one seamless experience. A mesh will give you a single Wi-Fi network through the whole property so no issues moving between locations Downside is mesh costs a lot more but can result in a better experience Their is a vast choice out there Final option is to upgrade to a more powerful router that uses 802.11n but that's an expensive option at the moment 😱 -
Proposed development of Kings Court (Barry Road)
Spartacus replied to CHrisED's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Nigello, with the proposal for a "supermarket local" type store at the bottom of the Barry Parade development, with a loading bay outside for delivery Lorry's , mixed with a bus stop opposite the click house, plus additional cars for the Kings Court development topped off by drivers visiting the store it just doesn't bode well for road safety at that junction. -
Proposed development of Kings Court (Barry Road)
Spartacus replied to CHrisED's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Imagine if this development went ahead along with the proposal for Barry Parade (application ref : 18/AP/2238) The junction of Barry Road would become a nightmare 😱 -
Bob This may be more up your street

You're right blah blah, the budget for services would still be there and needed but the cost for city hall, city hall workers, assembly members , tsars , the Mayor and all associated expenses wouldn't. That's multi millions that could be used for London centric projects / needs and not just on a layer of bureaucracy that sits between local councils and the government.

Goose Green councillors - how can we help?
Spartacus replied to jamesmcash's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Thanks legal Wonder if the traders have been invited? -
You're right Malumbu, not forgetting cancelling the last route master historic route, building an over running / over cost tube line , not getting knife crime under control , failing to fund the police correctly and not forgetting installing measures to reduce pollution that make it worse and don't account for elderly and the disabled (street space) The mayors done loads of things for us...

I thought this was useful https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/resources/idt-40ac92b1-1750-4e86-9936-2cda6b0acb3f It also appears that the surge testing for the SA variant in Lambeth and Wandsworth will be extended into part of Southwark due to its presence also being discovered in wastewater. Still alcohol gel wash kills it, so the young are hoping for the same effect from going to the pub 😱

There is a worrying development coming out of Chile at the moment, despite being ahead in vaccinating the population they are now suffering a third wave. https://www.theweek.co.uk/news/world-news/americas/952437/why-chile-battling-coronavirus-surge-despite-rapid-vaccine The article talks about using the Pfizer vaccination with a high efficacy and the Chinese vaccination (CoronaVac) which now appears to have an efficacy of around 50%. Scientist are trying to understand why they are in a third wave and if it's linked to 50% of those receiving Coronavac being vulnerable to the Brazilian variant, however they did unlock back in January when the vaccination program was in its infancy and people dropped their guard. Should this be a warning for us all during this next phase of unlocking from recent restrictions? I guess the phrase "they think it's all over" can't be used just yet and fingers crossed the vaccinations we are using here will be enough to stop another wave against our shores.

Pedestrianization of Lordship Lane
Spartacus replied to mco6215's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Jim Just watch the carnage that would cause on Crystal Palace road, not to mention the loss of buses on the Lane sending them down Barry Road. With the roads off Lordship Lane around Melbourne Grove closed to traffic, the shops will suffer more than they are already. Not a good idea in the slightest 😱 -

Queens Husband, Edinburgh - Prince Philip has died age 99

The news channels have tributes already made up for major public figures that they add to and update on a rolling basis just in case. Hardly shocking foxy, it's something they plan for and possibly have been since moving pictures were first invented. Good business practice IMHO -

I agree Malumbu, bbc1 and bbc2 are showing exactly the same program. If they had different content then fine but the same content is strange. Very sad for the Queen at this time -
Trades people who when invited to come to your residence to quote on a job, turn up without a face mask. Thank you but no even if they are the cheapest quote.
