  1. I thought this was useful https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/resources/idt-40ac92b1-1750-4e86-9936-2cda6b0acb3f It also appears that the surge testing for the SA variant in Lambeth and Wandsworth will be extended into part of Southwark due to its presence also being discovered in wastewater. Still alcohol gel wash kills it, so the young are hoping for the same effect from going to the pub 😱
  2. View on a map You need to zoom right in to see details https://consultation.appyway.com/southwark Not easy to find on southwarks website and only a limited time for anyone to object if they feel so inclined
  3. There is a worrying development coming out of Chile at the moment, despite being ahead in vaccinating the population they are now suffering a third wave. https://www.theweek.co.uk/news/world-news/americas/952437/why-chile-battling-coronavirus-surge-despite-rapid-vaccine The article talks about using the Pfizer vaccination with a high efficacy and the Chinese vaccination (CoronaVac) which now appears to have an efficacy of around 50%. Scientist are trying to understand why they are in a third wave and if it's linked to 50% of those receiving Coronavac being vulnerable to the Brazilian variant, however they did unlock back in January when the vaccination program was in its infancy and people dropped their guard. Should this be a warning for us all during this next phase of unlocking from recent restrictions? I guess the phrase "they think it's all over" can't be used just yet and fingers crossed the vaccinations we are using here will be enough to stop another wave against our shores.

  5. Jim Just watch the carnage that would cause on Crystal Palace road, not to mention the loss of buses on the Lane sending them down Barry Road. With the roads off Lordship Lane around Melbourne Grove closed to traffic, the shops will suffer more than they are already. Not a good idea in the slightest 😱
  6. I warned you about this thread, and lo today James Cash discussed it seriously and if people think its a good idea he will look into it This is on you MCO6215 , all you....

The news channels have tributes already made up for major public figures that they add to and update on a rolling basis just in case. Hardly shocking foxy, it's something they plan for and possibly have been since moving pictures were first invented. Good business practice IMHO
  8. I agree Malumbu, bbc1 and bbc2 are showing exactly the same program. If they had different content then fine but the same content is strange. Very sad for the Queen at this time
  9. Trades people who when invited to come to your residence to quote on a job, turn up without a face mask. Thank you but no even if they are the cheapest quote.
  10. Lynne I have had so many arguments with banks asking them to prove who they are before I give details over to prove who I am Totally agree with your comments but the banks / card companies don't get it. I now put the phone down then ring the number on the back of my card from another phone (to stop the holding the line open scam) Someone has to come up with a better, more secure system.

On this there is no argument, it's madness in built up areas and half of their owners can't park for toffee so end up taking up one and a half spaces (either length or width)
  12. A friend says he wakes at 2 minutes to midnight, The hands that threaten doom.
  13. You could buy various different tea bags, split the bags open and then make your own blend 🤔
  14. That's park life for you Malumbu
  15. Location is also important, for example if on the banks of the river Nile then gone noon half past monsoon. But that's Madness 😎
  16. Sorry lou Only just woken from my chocolate coma and saw this As they say you snooze , you lose From what I was told, there was supply problems due to covid and demand was high to make up for Christmas However in the spirit of Easter, I've got a spare creme egg that you can have for the bargain price of ?50
  17. I normally try to get up tomorrow, never today 😆

Welcome back dkhb , we've missed you (not)
  19. Brilliant An hour ago my bank contacted me to say that there has been an attempt to withdraw money from my account on a new device. On their instructions I transferred to a new account (I'm overdrawn so that's going to be interesting) Half an hour later HMRC called as I owe them unpaid taxes, I gave them my new account details to do a direct debit from. Curious to see if robbing scammer one to pay scammer two will work .. for information I didn't really fall for it and no actual details were given out.
  20. Correct dkhb, but removing the cars and not providing alternatives is what the council are proposing It's got to be joined up thinking, not just doing it on a wing and a prayer without massive investment in public transport.
  21. alice Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > thanks S. and DF check out the crime map for Rye > lane street crime has not gone up. But I still > want the buses back. Hi Alice The crime map works on "reported" crime, from conversations I've had with residents who live above and around Rye Lane crime has increased but it isn't being reported which is why on paper the numbers aren't going up. My suggestion is that a conversation needs to be had with businesses and residents to ascertain the situation and despite the council saying they held a consultation before closing the lane, no one I have spoken with was involved and businesses were "told" Rye Lane was closing (hardly a consultation) I agree the buses need to return as its killing the Lane and disabled and elderly can't access the shops.
  22. The twitter account for peckham sefifteen often has a good insight to the rye Lane issues And
  23. heartblock Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Good public transport is key to reducing car > use...absolutely agree. Good and safe from picking up covid or other transportable respiratory viral infections. Which means more of it running with everyone respecting each other and wearing masks However this doesn't mean penalising cars to make it run faster as "this service has been held to regulate service" will occur. It needs more buses, longer (more carriages), quicker and more frequent tube trains, maybe trams and more trains to various places. TFL are stymied by the issue with resistance to driverless trains / tubes as they can improve service frequency but require better infrastructure and the unions arguing it's not safe. The German Frankfurt tram system tested automatic obstacle detection and breaking systems plus dlr trains operate driverless which proves it can work but to retrofit to other tfl rolling stock (plus potentially new tram systems) requires investment which isn't available at the moment and no bashing of car users will produce that investment. So it appears stalemate for the moment, people need to get around, there's a general agreement that where practical car use should be less but the public transport system isn't going to be able to pick up a model shift in its present form and cycling / walking is only practical for short trips for the fit, non disabled and is generally elderly unfriendly plus as soon as you get a large item (or lots of shopping) to carry it's unsafe or difficult to cycle and walk. The current solution of bash / tax the driver will cause resentment so the real response should be massive investment in better, more frequent and possibly running at a loss / empty at times to more destinations public transport before people will substitute it for some (but not all) car journeys. The council are building resentment by what a lot of people see as waging war on motorists without also tackling the lack of practical safe alternatives (and not just the cheap option of saying cycling and walking which is frankly not enough)
