I tend to agree with much of this post. I would love to see: A good lebanese or Moroccan restaurant An Israeli restaurant (some great food ideas coming out of the Tel Aviv culinary scene) Like Bala Baya in Southwark. a Poke bowl place a really good Jerk chicken shop (like Juicy jerk) It saddens me that the gentrification ED has gone hand in hand with greedy landlords charging so much for shop rental that its prohibitive for smaller independent businesses this in turn leads to the area becoming just a bland middle class (is Yuppie still a term in common usage?)enclave.

I REALLY REALLY wanted to like Megans due to the menu sounding lovely...but frankly it doesn't live up to the description on any level. Haven't been to Leons for a while to be fair so thank you for this insight-I loved their salads with the chicken. I found Magans only 1/4 full both times I went (both weekends lunchtime). It may be full due to novelty value (ie: its new) and the menu looks good on paper...I would be interested to see how many people return for the food.

Two chances was enough for me with Megans..small portions, haphazard service, not very tasty food overpriced and that awful piped muzak.... Now Dishoom...That WOULD be good.. Or even a Leon's.... Some chains are good But my experience with DV Megans leaves me disinclined to try their other branches.

But so much tastier...Long live the independendents. We need more individuality and less of the cookie-cutter blandness that most high streets seem to house these days. -
I'm sick of every high st becoming the same..Joe and the Juice is all over the place And Pret is uninspiring and again another chain, Costa I never bother with, And food options at all these places are a bit well...uninspiring. I think we need more place like Kinella, Oru, Blue brick,Spinach to give us different and also tastier options than these 'job-lot pre-packaged' chains. I personally will get my coffee at a local independent and ditto my lunch. Saucy was never somewhere I would have chosen to eat (chips chips and more chips) but at least it wasn't a bland chain.

Sad times. Se23.life has closed and now with this closing there seems to be now way to keep up with local info. I find this Forum a valuable resource not only for local info but also aware of crimes happening in the area etc.

There's one in Dulwich village already-We've been there a couple of times (once when it first opened...and again a couple of weeks ago ). And to be honest I wouldn't bother going again-both times the menu promised more than it delivered food was average, and expensive for what it was. And dreadful 80's greatest hits muzak playing both times. This was for brunch but wouldn't think of going there for an evening meal or cocktail-the muzak alone was enough to turn me off for good. I pity the young staff that work there having to listen to it-it was rubbish in the 80's and sounds worse now. If you're a tears for fears fan and like pseudo Mediterranean food served lukewarm it could be your thing.

Lilas has been our go to for repairs and purchases for anniversary, birthday etc since they first opened. They will be missed.

As long as they dont have the Daily Mail and Telegraph in its place That'd be fine by me..and if they did I smell a right wing conspiracy (btw..I am joking!) -
Angelina Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Farm shops also deliver direct and cut out the > middle man. > I doubt we are the only family who prefer to spend > our money on other things than hiked prices. You obviously have the luxury of time on your hands to make it to the wholesale markets, I assume you also do things like make jam and chutneys so you have a use for a crate load of fruit or veg. My husband and I work full time and dont have enough hours in the day twixt leaving for work and getting home to go truffling round New Covent Garden,Smithfield and the like to save a few quid. If you really want to save money Angelina buy your fruit and veg from Lidl or Aldi or is it not 'organic' and 'locally farmed' enough for your liking? Before you diss a local independent business who have stopped a retail premises turning into another Nail bar or estate agent just THINK. For you I assume your going direct to wholesalers for produce is not for reasons of personal financial constraints but in order to be smug and feel you are a 'savvy shopper'

I found a white rabbit soft toy lying in the road on East Dulwich Grove and Lordship lane yesterday around 11am. Its a plush white rabbit with liberty print lining in its ears and looked clean and new. So it didn't get run over I left it sat on the Step of Memsaab Indian Restaurant. I hope it gets reunited with its young owner.

Online at my surgery only operates in office hours -Try being at work (like me) and trying to fill in pages and pages of questions and then be contacted 2 days later to say my GP will call me between 9am-1pm a few days hence... I work in a department store and cant carry my mobile phone on the shop floor much less take calls. I've virtually given up on trying to get to see a doctor. Because its impossible! Seems the NHS GP service is being phased out and its only a matter of time before we go to the US system.
