I used to politely ask people to wear their masks properly or ask if they were exempt as they weren't wearing a mask but after reading that news piece and having a woman repeatedly jab me in the ribs whilst swearing at me on a packed underground train when I asked her to please put her mask on not wear it on her chin I stopped saying anything. I'd say on my daily commute to the west end a good 20% of commuters young/old/male/female all races dont wear a mask. It infuriates me. Its because of people like them that we now find ourselves in tier2. Its selfish and stupid. I HATE wearing a mask-it makes my nose itch and my glasses steam up but I wear one for 12 hours a day (from leaving home/commute/all day at work) with only 30 mins respite for lunch. why cant someone wear one for a 20 min train journey?

I actually agree with the mayor of Manchester who described the Tier system of Boris's way of doing a 'cut price lockdown' If a city is in tier2 businesses are suffering (I see it in the west end-footfall has dropped considerably) but companies cant furlough their staff and get govt support. Tier 3 is 'almost a lockdown' but isn't as non essential businesses can still trade but (not restaurants and bars to my understanding) but who is going to shop in these non essential stores? I think the tier system is a cop out tbh and is very much dividing the country. Personally I think we need a 2-4 week lockdown so that we can see some semblance of normality (as in 'The New Normal' by Christmas. As it stands there is so much uncertainty will there be a lockdown? will we go to tier 3? and also what are the damn rules for all these tiers? I find it confusing and a little frightening that nobody actually seems to be in control they're just pussyfooting around which has the potential to cost more lives and more businesses. We went into lockdown a couple of weeks too late in March, and I believe we came out of it a few weeks too early. The fact we have the highest death rate in Europe (as far as I know) is because of the lamentable handling of this by our government. How can I trust a government where a senior minister broke the rules in deepest lockdown and got away with it? They continue to drink after 10 in the commons bar but let us lot all leave the pubs and restaurants in droves at the same time leading to overcrowding on the trains and streets.

today i got a message on my home screen telling me I'd been in contact with someone with Covid. and that they had the location of that contact taking place. when I opened my phone the message disappeared. Needless to say I got in a panic-should I self isolate? should I contact everyone I've seen in the last few days? and where was the contact? If it was at work it could have been prolonged contact or what it that I was walking by someone in the street? I searched the app my emails, nothing no other notification. Still unsure as to wether I should immediately self isolate I googled what had happened and found this: https://news.sky.com/story/coronavirus-some-users-of-nhs-tracing-app-incorrectly-given-covid-19-exposure-alerts-12086225 It was exactly the message i received and with same outcome. to be honest it has made me lose faith in the app a bit

no windows that open on some of our local bus routes and on the overground. only on the older southern trains I'm afraid.

echoing what the above poser said-I left my things on a shelf provided by the pool- I would book online and go on the waitlist-I did that and the day before slots became available. FYI if you dont have the App for the Covid tracking point your camera on your phone at the QR code (the square box with the pixels in)and that should lead to opening Safari so you can still log your details. Hope this makes sense-I'm sure someone could explain it better!

I've had 3 of these calls today. One from a Liverpool number, one from Derby and one from a hidden caller ID; It was a recorded message with a very fake BBC english accent telling me that they were calling from HMRC and fraud had been detected on my account,and if I didn't press 1 and give them my details they'd put a warrant out for my arrest. I burst out laughing at the last bit. Problem is someone could so easily panic and end up handing over all their details to this scam

Yes agree-I feel angry at Boris placing the onus upon shop workers, waiting staff and bar tenders to wear masks (where I work we have had to since lockdown ended-the company provided us with masks and no mask you go home. Likewise I haven't had a single person serve me in a cafe or restaurant without a mask. BUT in the store I work in I regularly see customers coming in wearing masks then removing them once through the door or dropping the mask to their chins. The onus is upon everyone-why should people in the service industries have to protect the customers but there is no onus upon the customers to protect us. We are not allowed to ask customers to wear masks in case we get abused only security can do that and security are there to catch thieves. Boris's statement as regards customers only stated that customers in restaurants must wear masks until they are seated. Nothing about customers in supermarkets or stores. working in a service industry you come into contact with dozens and dozens of people every day-by wearing masks we are protecting THEM-but what are they doing to protect US?

Thank you. This was actually on a tube train so there was no-one to report it to...As you correctly state when someone bullies you it makes you feel pretty powerless.

I am a slight older woman (60's) and I really dont want to find myself being attacked over this so I've largely tried to ignore it and shut up-This decision has come after a woman sat down next to me on the tube and promptly dropped her mask to her chin-when I asked her to lift it up she started cursing at me and spent the next two stops (when another seat became available and I moved) jabbing me really hard in my side with her elbow. No one has ever supported me when I've confronted someone on the train and so I've decide for my own safety to put up and shut up (except for on a forum like this!)

Its deeply depressing seeing so many people not taking this seriously. I tried to walk to work one day but its 8 miles and I was so knackered when I got in the idea of standing for 8 hours on the shop floor made me want to burst into tears. Some people are just selfish and thoughtless and dont care about protecting others (who may have underlying health conditions)from Covid. Many of us HAVE to work we have to use to use public transport because we are not in jobs where we can work from home these are the lower paid roles, Cleaners, shop workers,resturant workers. I wish London wasn't so full of selfish idiots and complacent travel companies but it is and we all have to live with the consequences

TBH Its pretty pointless complaining-My understanding is that bus drivers have been told NOT to confront non mask wearers for safety reasons (The drivers safety that is- a driver was murdered in france for telling a passenger he couldn't board without a mask). I have written to TFL and Southern Rail about people not complying to the MANDATORY wearing of masks on busses, trains and underground and I got a platitude standard response. As an example I took the Jubilee line today to and from work, both trains were packed, standing room only no chance to social distance and about 15-20% of people in the carriage weren't wearing masks another 20% wearing them below their noses. My most delightful experience was on the Overground a couple of days ago where someone actually pulled down his mask to cough several times! Unless more enforcement officers were put taken on (no money for that) or they had 'mask enforcers' on each carriage and every bus (not possible) I'm afraid for people like me with Asthma who HAVE to use public transport to get to and from work every day its a game of russian roulette.

actually looking at it again I tend to think its definitely more arts and crafts/sucsessionist in style and I think you could be spot on that its a one of carpenters piece

I dont think its mid-century but earlier. Although not an expert We do collect mid-century furniture and I have many books on the subject. I think its late 1900's

I think Lewes is a much better option than Rye with better train service and easy to get into Brighton as well Rye is basically a cute tourist town with not much going on-plus properties aren't by any means cheap and are quite poky. I'll add here that slots can be booked up to 7 days in advance. I just booked my gym session and it was really simple on the app

Yes it doesn't look like Tart is reopening. I'm surprised by As Nature intended as they are part of a chain owned by Planet Organic so not cash poor. I never used them anyway for that reason as I prefer to support my local independent shops.

How on earth the government believe that people will self quarantine for 14 days when they return to the UK when they cant even get a grip on wearing a mask on public transporting shops or social distancing is beyond me. everyone will want to show off their suntans and hang out with their mates. many people in lower paid jobs are being told that they have to either take the quarantine as unpaid leave or holiday for those on zero hours contracts they will end up just going to work.
