Eltham still seems a bit far for me to get to (I'm way down near the Horseman Museum) Seeing your post has made me decide to look into where the various Churches are especially if theres one I can get to easily twixt work or home.

I really believe in this, and at a really low point in my life I used to attend a spiritualist church in Notting hill where I lived at the time, I went not in order to connect with spirit myself but because there was a really beautiful peaceful loving energy there and it was comforting for me to see others find peace through connecting with lost loved ones. When I was diagnosed with a potentially life threatening illness some years ago after I received my diagnosis I went to the church and attended some of their donation only healing sessions. The ladies there were angels and helped me so much out of pure goodness and I firmly believe they helped with my recovery. There will always be sceptics but I know the kindness and love I felt in that church exceeded that I've felt in the churches of other 'conventional' religions. I wish I knew a spiritualist church locally because I would love to go back and Notting Hill is too far for me to attend in the evening and get home at a decent hour. Louisa-where is our nearest one and can we get there on public transport?

In case you were wondering I am a petite woman nearing 60 and I was on my own not stood with a pack of incontinent dogs and yes..I was sober too. I got home eventually (the 4th cab which I found after walking down to Farringdon finally agreed to take me-it cost ?38 after he crawled most the way)but that night downloaded the Uber app.

I use VIP you can buy them online, very happy I use the ones that look like cigarettes very slim and don't blow tons of smoke. If you buy in multi packs its pretty reasonable.

Its dreadful! They closed Forest Hill and Dulwich Village so its the only branch for SE21/22/23 its an utter joke. I've waited 30mins the other day. there is rarely more than 1 till open and I really pity the staff there tbh. what kind of muppet decided to leave only 2 counters open during the referb knowing that two other nearby branches are closing? I'm wondering if it may be worth contacting Barclays head office to complain?

Even west end places are cheaper than this. sounds like a total rip off!!! We won't be bothering to go. Great shame as we loved the Palmerston for a Sunday get-together with friends now and again. -
Horniman Gardens - Proposed changes to the Gardens
NewWave replied to dbboy's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
this has been deliberately under publicised to my knowledge they should be leafletting local homes and making these proposals widely known. It will ruin the gardens if this goes ahead! -
Even though due to the food offering I doubt we would ever eat there I honestly do feel really gutted for them-its like they're jinxed! I wish them well as they must have sunk a ton of money into this and on a personal level its enough to drive even the toughest of us into a state of despair losing revenue for all the months of the refurb and then this! meanwhile there'll still be bills coming in..ugh! I sincerely hope that they come back soon and are able to recover from this and thrive.

its the age old thing of greedy landlords and our councils not helping small independent buisinesses with buisness rates that bleed them dry. Sadly despite the saying England is a nation of small shopkeepers (or words to that effect) I've found the past 15 or so years that our cities have done nothing to encourage independent local shops in any way. Its a bee in my bonnet the homogenisation of all our high streets. When I go to Europe and particularly Paris I revel in the way each local area still retains sometimes quirky or specialist independent traders. This is what gives an area its character and makes it worth exploring. I never bother to go to the likes of Kings Road or Kensington High Street any more-Its pointless-M&S,Zara,H&M, etc etc I can get that in the west end or a mall if I was that way inclined. I really feel our high rents and rates and expensive public transport are killing london.

Whoever they elect they'll lose the next election anyway so its irrelevant. and when they lose they'll elect another leader. I know many die hard tories who are choosing to vote Green or Lib Dem in the next election because they're so disgusted with the Brexit mess

Johnjohn Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Number 12 Bus is being reduced from 12 buses an > hour down to 8. > That is a significant reduction Dear Lord! That's my go-to in a tube strike or curtailment of rail services. As the only bus that goes to the central west end in our area its another kick in the teeth. As regards Cycling suggestions-For me this wouldn't work as I can't ride a bike and at my age I don't think its an option to learn whilst commuting to Oxford Circus. -

And dont even bother responding crying "why > should i?!", because you clearly are a spoilt > individual who just doesn't quite understand how > life in London works. I wasn't going to bother responding to your downright ignorant reply but having just got home from work (11.30pm)I will. First up-I'm a Londoner born and bred, I grew up on a council estate which was fortunately was in West London Zone 1 As the only daughter of elderly sick parents (I'm not asking for sympathy just stating facts OK?)I remained as near as possible to my parents by living in zone 2 West London for most of my adult life-when they passed away I no longer needed to be so near to them and pay inflated prices to live in what what was admittedly a pretty central area (W10) I can certainly 'Hack' living in London, probably better than most. If I could find a shop job locally that paid the same hourly rate as a central London store I would-Believe me-I'd love to walk to work or be home by 7pm. If I'd chosen to live in East London (which I also considered before settling here because at the time it wasn't as overpriced and fashionable as it is now)I would still be able to get more than one direct bus into work as well as having access to the Central line. My point was not that I can't hack living in London or indeed commuting (as I've relied on public transport my entire life and I'm nearly 60)BUT that the transport options regarding busses is woefully inadequate in this part of London compared to even SW London. I think your attitude is horrendous and unrealistic too thinking its that easy to get a job locally (it isn't -competition for what counts as unskilled work is fierce) or that living in what counts as a major city it is unrealistic to expect half way decent transport links into the central hub. I glad I don't know what you look like because if I did I'd kick you where it hurts if I saw you on the Jubilee line. -
The Old Jaflong Restaurant to become a Pizza place

fishbiscuits Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > We have enough pizza restaurants. On that, I can > agree. Exactly! And even if we do live in 'Nappy Valley" I'm sure kids would find stuff they'd enjoy in a decent Tapas or Moroccan place. I really like the chain 'comptoir libanaise' its reasonably priced with a big enough menu theres something for everyone. Or the chain Giraffe are really decent, salads, burgers, all day breakfasts, Leon also is really decent. I'm giving these as examples of fairly priced chains with a decent and varied food offering. Pizza isn't very inspiring and If I had kids I'd rather give them something other than Pizza as a treat. -

It is not 'Pathetically entitled' to expect to get to my job as a 'lowly shop Assistant' in the west end in less than an hour.Using public transport because Believe it or not mate shop workers do not earn enough to get taxis to and from our jobs. I pay ?1500 a year for my Oyster card because much as I would love to use the cheaper and less claustrophobic option of busses to and from work the bus routes simply aren't good enough so I'm reliant on the overground to change to the Jubilee line at hideously overcrowded Canada Water. In the summer and at Christmas many West end shops close at 10pm I get out at 10.30 when I'm on a late shift and frankly having to walk 15 minutes to get a bus that brings me over the river only to have to then change to another bus around Elephant and castle and then change again to be near my home does not appeal as a lone female who's been standing for 8hours on a shop floor-Also I'd be lucky to get home before midnight. Belive it or not (hard I know as some of you wrongly believe the area is full of gentrified people sipping lattes and working on their laptops from home or doing highly paid city jobs) I moved here because I could no longer afford to live in West London Where I only used busses to get to work. If I wanted to live in a village with one bus I'd have left London completely. In this day and age of rising rents (?1000 a month for a bed sit in W2) more and more people are moving further from the inner city. Its about time TFL realised that areas like ours are populated by people who rely on good transport links to get us into our jobs at present the busses and trains just aren't good enough. Busses are overcrowded as are trains and as for a bus every 4 miniutes on Lordship lane? That sure as hell isn't the 185 or 176 which are the only routes that get us anywhere near central. -

Bus routes in this area are appalling! and seem to just get worse. TFL obviously assume we all have nothing better to do than stick around our immediate area eating Pizzas and drinking Lattes and Craft beer-which I believe links nicely to a couple of other threads on this forum. Actually...maybe the sweetshop opened so we can placate ourselves with a bag of sugary goodies as we wait at a string of different bus stops all over SE London in order to get anywhere half way central! -
The Old Jaflong Restaurant to become a Pizza place
NewWave replied to DulwichFox's topic in The Lounge
At the risk of being controversial I actually agree with Louisa that it would be much better to have a new Moroccan restaurant or Mexican or Tapas....just something other than a Pizza restaurant which our part of South East London seems to be saturated with. Personally I find Pizza boring I know I may be in the minority but Pizza is to my mind just bread and cheese with assorted toppings. -

This sounds really good. Although not a fan of sweets as such I do however have a MAJOR weakness for liquorice and presently have to trek to Borough market to get decent salt liquorice (its easier for me to get to than Ikea before anyone suggests there) someone mentioned earier that this shop sells salt liquorice so I will definitely be there on my next day off. Mouth watering already!
