Whats more all the press items date from up to 5 years ago and still nothing has been done! at around 350k per bus its a joke!
  3. I very much feel we don't need another Coffee chain or resturant. What I think we DO need however that the site would be perfect for is a branch of Wholefoods or Planet Organic. I know we have SMBS which is very good but we do need a bigger offer with organic ready meal options, bakery and all that the whole foods and planet organic chain offers. At present we have to go to Clapham which is the nearest branch. I'm sure theres a market for this here. And it would do well
  4. Today for the second time in two weeks I had to get a number 12 bus home from Oxford Circus due to problems with the Jubilee Line. Both times the bus was hotter than Hades with no windows that open and no form of air conditioning or air cooling in evidence. What the hell is wrong with the design of these 'new' busses? Surely the whole idea of having sealed windows should be due to air cooling but Ive never seen any in evidence. Likewise back in February when I couldn't get the overground due to snow stopping the service i got on a 12 with no heating that was like spending 70 miniutes (I get off at Oxford Circus)In an ice cube. There has been a lot in the press about heat on the underground but I get the Jubilee line every day and at least the windows open each end of the carriage giving a semblance of breeze, and they do have fans. But trust me the number 12 is way hotter than the underground and I can't believe this hasn't been flagged by the press as this is a new state of the art bus that a lot of money has been spent on. bring back the old route master!

And the use of the word "PAD" ugh!!!! that really makes me want to heave. its the sort of word naff estate agents use and one I haven't seen used in any quality interiors publication since the 70's.

Growing up in Notting hill in the 60's there were loads go hippie communes. I have fond memories of them, My mother had friends in them and we often went to visit, They would often open their doors to the local community and invite them to share a meal (always brown rice based!) have musicians jamming. I find squatters now (because the communes were mainly squats) are destructive and disruptive. gone are the days of peace and love.
  7. No definitely not. It will have a detrimental effect on local buisinesses and kill the area.

Air con is actually the only way to keep a space like that cool. I was there this morning and although hot it was bearable.

HOP any day. we were originally looking in East and West dulwich then found we could get more space in forest Hill and brought there 7 years ago. We still go to ED for boutique shopping, the odd meal and drinks but its only down the road. Also theres a really good pub in HOP The railway telegraph I think its called. I have a young single workmate who rents in HOP and loves it, she goes out in Peckham, drinks in Forest Hill,Crystal Palace or ED and never feels 'isolated'

We've lived in Forest Hill near the Horniman Museum for 7 years. Its a great area, lovely neighbours, lots of open space a few miniutes away. a decent Sainsburys, Boots, WHSmith,Superdrug,a superb butchers and independent cafes and resturants as well as Forest Hill Pools Lordship Lane shops and bars are a walk away, or a short bus-ride. ditto Crystal Palace. TBH I would chose this area above Sydenham.

I must confess I actually felt safer in Manhattan in the 80's and 90's (when I was there a great deal) as a lone woman because there were plenty of cops in evidence and yellow cabs parked at most major junctions. i used to walk around downtown alone in the early hours of the morning and knew as long as I didn't look 'lost' or like a tourist I'd be fine. I'd never dream of walking alone round central london (or round here for that matter) in the early hours. Its bad enough leaving my work in the West end at 10.30 at night and circumnavigating panhandlers and moped gangs

I share your pain...Its the transport in this area that makes me dream of moving. sadly can't afford to-moved here because it was further out and therefore cheaper. 6years down the line the transport has deteriorated immensely and is making me dread my daily commute as its either overcrowded or canceled
  13. this is bloody joke. it leaves us with No Barclays for miles! I bank with them and refuse to do online banking. Many elderly people rely on having an actual bank to visit. Forest Hill closed. East Dulwich closed for months and now DV closing.
  14. Perhaps it was a child? especially if only money was missing.
  15. report it 100% this sort of behaviour is out of order-and the fact he did it to a lone woman shows what a pathetic coward he is.
  16. I don't know how long ago you used to swim there but I've noticed since everyone active took over from fusion its much cleaner and never found it dirty. can't answer 2nd question I'm afraid!
  17. probably people protesting against a Greggs opening in the village

Its an utter travesty. I really fail to understand how people not just in our area but up and down the country have had their rush hour services cut. a girl I work with who commutes from Eastbourne now has to get to work an hour earlier or arrive 30 mins after her official start time as they dropped the service inbetween. its a joke.

  21. sorry...I love the way you guys keep saying 'all night party' midnight is not 'all night'. there is an asumption that this party was going to be a late one but it was not at the time of posting an 'all night party'
  22. singalto Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Kibris that is a ridiculous thing to say. An all > night party is not acceptable. may I point out the OP posted at 12.10am.....not 5am. At midnight I would hardly label it an 'all night party' I think until 1am at the weekend one should be a bit more forgiving-and I actually work most weekends but despite that would never dream of complaining about noise from a neighbours party unless it carried on until well into the early hours.

So what if not everyone shares Louisa's views. so what if she likes to bang her particular 'drum' talking about class. you can chose to share her views or not. personally I can't abide smug middle class attitudes-I grew up on a council estate yet as a homeowner I would suppose I am now 'middle class' but god forbid I ever become a boring NIMBY like some of the plonkers on here!
